  1. WOW! I didn't know that existed. I would totally eat all of the food off that. Most of it looks vegan to me - I would likely just need to ask about ghee but it looks super yummy!! Great find!
  2. He will have a lot of options! We didn't get to try everything over 7 days. It was all really yummy 🙂
  3. If you wanted to order off this menu, you need to be in the dining room for dinner. However, in my blog post, I did show the other vegan options in other areas around the ship - like burgers, pizza, Lido Market, etc.
  4. I've read some posts on Cruise Critic asking about vegan and vegetarian options on cruise ships. I've sailed on several cruises following a vegan diet, and aside from an entirely vegan cruise, HAL has a fabulous vegan menu! There are also so many vegan options all over the ship, whether it's naturally plant-based or you just need to remove a couple of ingredients here or there. I've written all about everything that I ate for my 7 days on Nieuw Statendam at my blog here: https://justinpluslauren.com/holland-america-vegan-guide/ I'll post the images of the vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free menu here that you can request in the main dining room. Let me know if you have any questions!
  5. Are any of your upcoming sailings headed to Kristiansand? Initially, I really had no idea what to do there. We spent half of our day on a cruise shore excursion and half of the day exploring the town. I wrote a blog post with all kinds of ideas for things to do in Kristiansand, most of them are free and you can do them on your own! https://justinpluslauren.com/things-to-do-in-kristiansand-norway/ We also took a ship excursion to Lillesand - I wrote all about why you should take that excursion and the times where you might want to pass on it!
  6. That's wonderful! I'd love to go back to the Fram museum next time. Oslo is such a great city with so much to see & do. I could go there many times!
  7. We didn't go there from our cruise. I think it's worth it if you have a couple of days in Oslo. Our day went like this: Bike excursion through the ship, lunch at the ship, exploring on foot in the afternoon. I have some alternate options for those who aren't really into the same things as us, one of which is the ski jump. I'm not sure if it's worth going out there if you only have a handful of hours, but it's definitely something unique that you won't find anywhere else!
  8. Ah, I would have loved to have continued on for another week to see more of Norway! Flam was my favorite port, but the other ones sound really nice, too.
  9. That's good to know! I only added a couple of highlights to my list of additional suggestions but didn't elaborate too deeply because I didn't personally visit them myself. Perhaps I will edit to add the Folk Museum. There isn't any reason why I didn't add it though 🙂
  10. I just returned from sailing the Norwegian fjords with HAL and loved it. We went to Oslo, Kristiansand, Stavanger and Flam (7 day cruise). Flam was our favorite port! Feel free to read my full review here: https://justinpluslauren.com/norwegian-fjords-cruise-nieuw-statendam/
  11. I feel like you could rent a car and drive there on your own. It's a cute little town. I'm not sure there is a ton of things to do in Lillesand, which is why the tour combines the boat trip. I personally feel that there's a lot more to see in Kristiansand than Lillesand. We took the tour where we took a bus to Lillesand and a boat tour.... a word of advice, if it's raining a lot, do NOT take this tour. They won't cancel the tour, and everyone was absolutely soaked - even with umbrellas and rain jackets. It gets cold (at the end of July even!) and everything on the boat was completely soaked in water...we couldn't see much outside of the boat as it was all dreary and rain was coming in. Everyone was pretty miserable over the experience. I couldn't feel my fingers or my feet as my shoes were drenched! I really enjoyed the second half of my afternoon much more where I explored Kristiansand by foot.
  12. We've never had a problem bringing ours as carry-on on the plane. However, they might not be allowed to be brought on the cruise ship. I've heard that they can be confiscated by the cruise line and held in storage for the whole cruise and you'll get it back at the end. I don't think they want people flying them off the ship.
  13. We had a glorious day in Oslo while sailing around Norway aboard HAL's Nieuw Statendam and I'm excited to share everything we did there with you! In the morning, we took a bike tour around some popular sites to see the architecture, parks, and the Vigeland sculpture park. After lunch back on the ship, we headed back out in the afternoon to explore some of Oslo by foot. I've done a very thorough write-up with lots of photos on my blog if you'd like to take a look! >> https://justinpluslauren.com/one-day-in-oslo-norway/ Please feel free to ask me any questions about Oslo, too!!
