We just got off Liberty.

My Time Dining - #1) Will follow dress-code for the Traditional Dinner seating. Pepole don't totally understand that and show-up in shorts for Tuxedo night!

#2) If you know when you are planning to eat - Say you're seeing a show at 4 pm and another at 9pm. Then you would plan to eat sometime inbetween there. So, you would go to the My Time dining room and put your reservation in, say for 6pm. That way, you are done with the 4pm show have time to change and make the 6pm dinner, then have time to get to the 9pm show.

#3) If you don't know a time, let's say you are in port and don't know a time you'd be back to the ship, so you don't make a reservation. You can go to My Time dining when you are ready to eat. They will get you a table as soon as one is available. Usually no more then a 1/2 hour wait.

Hope this helps.

The OP is asking about my family time dining which is not the same as MTD.

To the OP, my family time dining is only available if you have main seating. The kids meals are served at a faster pace and then the kids will be picked up at the entrance of the dining room by the Adventure Ocean staff. Whether you should sign up really depends on the age of the kids.

Meaning ... To use this service, you need to be registered for early seating in the dining room :)

Thank you everyone for your replies.

A little confusing, not sure if it is something my daughter should do. The ages of her children are 1, 4, and 6. The 4 and 6 year old will be in the children's programs on the ship.

The first time we took our kids, our youngest was 9. He only ate with us in the MDR on the first and last nights. We wanted him to but he begged to stay in the kids program during dinner.

We did the My Family Dining on the Adventure of the Seas this past New Years and loved it. We have a 3 year old and she loved spending time at Adventure Ocean. Each night they brought her food right away, and then we met the AO staff at the entrance to the dining room 45 minutes into dinner so they could bring her up there. We were able to have a nice leisurely dinner, and she had fun up at AO. Everyone won. Each day you have to sign up for it through AO so they know to come get your kid. And when you sit down to eat you tell your waiter to bring their food right away. Interestingly enough, we were the only people to use the service the entire cruise. I'm guessing most people don't know about it. We loved it and will use again on an upcoming cruise.

Thank you again for your helpful replies.

I think my daughter is going to call RCCL and find out what she needs to do. I know when we go to restaurants, the children get bored and don't want to sit for a long time, so this may be good for them, and also for my daughter and her husband.

We are hoping the 4 and 6 year old will like the children's programs on the ship, concerned about them not wanting to be away from their mommy and daddy, especially the 4 year old.

It has nothing to do with MTD.

In fact, it will only work if you have traditional early seating....you sign up for family dining at the kid's club. Your children's meal is expedited (45 min) and you meet the kid's club staff at the dining room entrance, sign in your kids, and go back to finish your entree and dessert.

Thank you, your explanation is very easy to understand. :)

We used something similar on Disney and it is the best idea EVER! You can actually enjoy your meal. On a cruise, it can sometimes take a long time for your meal to be completed. This way your child gets to enjoy eating dinner with you but gets their food so much faster. When we were on Carnival, they did not do this but we sort of did it ourselves. We asked the waiter to bring their food to them quickly and then we walked them down to the kids club. I love that RC is doing this now.

Thanks. We already have early dining on our next cruise. We were thinking of going to MTD this time due to two stops being until 7 or 8 pm. Just to be clear, if we switch to MTD, we cannot do the Family option as well correct?

  • 1 month later...

From the postings here it sounds like to get my family time dining you sign up for early seating then you register for My Family Time Dining separately??

According to our booking for our Nov Brilliance cruise our dining reservation is "6 pm My Family Time Dining", so it seems like you are placed into this prior to the cruise.

Question for anyone who has done My Family Time Dining - Are you all placed in the same area of dining room? Since it is part of early seating we'll have the same waiter/ asst waiter every night?

Just wondering if we were going to be in the kids section of the dining room. Mine will be 10 and 12 so it's not like being around a bunch of toddlers (been that done that already). Our group includes kids 6, 9, 10, and 12.

Also, I understand the 12 yr old isn't included in the Adventure Ocean group since it is for 3-11 yr olds. If he wants would it be possible to join his sister (10) and cousin (9) in the Voyager group just for the evening activities or will he have to hang out at dinner with us (I don't really like having a 12 yr old roaming the ship by himself ... too much opportunity for trouble )

thanks!

On my January Independence cruise it seemed to be a little more loose. Didn't sign up and was told we didn't need to. Just go to the dining room entrance at 6:45. The one or two nights my daughter did get restless and want to participate we couldn't find anyone from Adventure Ocean near the dining room so just went up to the kids area and dropped her off. Rarely used this service, but mentioned to our waiter that we might so he made sure she was served quickly just in case.
