Sunnydale Posted January 28, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2013 We are staying in Civitavecchia pre cruise and will be arriving by train late evening, the hotel is 500m from the station therefore easy to walk but we need to go walk through the tunnel under the railway track. Can anyone advise if it is safe to do this, especially if flights are delayed and its 10.00pm before we arrive.
maryann ns Posted January 28, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2013 It will be safe and you will not be alone anyhow. It is not a dark tunnel, just two flights of stairs and a short hall between.
KirkNC Posted January 28, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 28, 2013 You should be fine.
UKBayern Posted January 28, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 28, 2013 As others have have already commented, it is not a dark tunnel. There will be other passengers alighting from the train and going that way. Just stay with other people if you feel uncomfortable.
euro cruiser Posted January 28, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 28, 2013 If they arrive late at night it is possible that they'll be the only folks getting off the train. Unlikely, but possible. If you are concerned, you could call your hotel before getting on the train (or even better call when you are making the change at Trastevere, if you are coming from the airport) and ask if someone from the hotel can meet you at the station to help you with your luggage. Sunnydale Posted January 28, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted January 28, 2013 Thank you for the advice, the plan is to arrive by 9.00pm so will just walk as there should be still be people about, I was just asked the question in case anyone had heard of problems and the area should be avoided. Ctaycruiser Posted February 18, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 18, 2013 There is a police station near the train station, so you should be OK :)
Italylecturer Posted February 23, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 23, 2013 Civitavecchia is not Naples. The train is a commuter train from Rome so lots of other people will be getting off too.

Thank you for your input, we thought that would be the case but just wanted to make sure.
vivian02 Posted February 24, 2013 #10 Share Posted February 24, 2013 There is a chance that you might not have to go through the stairwell when getting off the train in Civitavecchia. In 2007 I remember boarding at platform #27 in Rome and when exiting at Civitavecchia Station we unloaded directly onto the station platform. However in 2008 we boarded on platform #29 and had to go through the stairwell to get to the station. I really don't think it will be a big deal as long as you stay with the exiting passengers. I do have a picture of the stairwell that you are talking about. Tim
