Your comment above, which I've highlighted, brought back the near recent memoriees that made World Wide Headlines of the Woman in, Connecticut I believe, who had every bone in her face broken and her face ripped off (or nearly completely so) by her neighbors pet monkey, which she had know for years, both the neighbor and monkey.

Do a google search for " pet monkey rips off woman's face" and you can read and see more:(

As much as I love animals, wild and tame, I know that even the tamest of our fur babies can show a different attitude with no provocation. That is why whenever we were asked if he/she might bite, I always replied, "He/She has never bitten or attacked anyone or any animal, YET!!" I always stressed that all animals are capable of doing the unexpected, just as we are.........

I hope and pray the OP comes back and gives us an update on the lady with the Monkey Bite and that it is good news. I know 2nd hand (my baby sister) just how bad the series of 12 rabies shots can be:(

That woman had a full face transplant.

What an awful story that was/is. I well remember how the primate attacked her so viciously. Her owner had considered the ape to be like human and treated it like a human child.

My 30 year old son and I had to leave the ship in Nuku Hiva due to his medical condition. The first night we stayed in a hotel and the next day we flew to Tahiti. We saw the Port Authority at the airport and when we landed in Tahiti he pointed us towards the taxis, that was the last we saw of him. It was around midnight.

My son was in the hospital for 3 days. He was on IV but had no other treatment while there. When he was discharged the bill was over 9,000$. The airfare was also nearly 10,000$. My son is a diver and he had insurance through them that paid for our airfare. He is still waiting to see if his medical insurance here will cover any of the hospitals costs.

He had surgery the night that we made it back to Seattle which was 7 days after we left the ship.

My advise.....don't travel to the South Pacific without good insurance!

I like my animals in a zoo behind cages.

I like animals in the habitats they are supposed to live in. :D

Yes, I am not a big fan of zoos perhaps because in South Africa we got to see animals in game reserves where they could roam free and not live in cages.

My bosses father and mother were on a Holland America cruise that returned on the 27th without them. Their cruise visited Key West, Roatan and 2 other ports, but they were escorted off the ship because his mother was bite by a monkey. The bite was bleeding. She went to see the ship doctor and he promptly had them escorted off the ship. Now they are out over $4000 in airfare and hotel costs. Is this the usual when bitten on a shore excursion?

1) Wash well with lots of soap and hot water,

2) Liberally apply Neosporin on a frequent basis,

3) Strong rations of grog,

4) Don't tell the ship's doctor!
