cottagemama Posted February 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2013 We will be cruising to Bay of Islands on Radiance of Seas and our private excursion is out of Piahia. Can anyone tell me where Radiance of Seas tenders from ?
MargoK Posted February 1, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2013 The tender will either go to Waitangi (a 20 min walk from Paihia) or to Russell and this will be dependent on how many ships in on the day, tides, weather etc. Either way your tour operator should be able to cope with either eventuality, after all they will be doing tours on a daily basis so will know the 'ropes'. I believe there may be a shuttle service from Waitangi to Paihia also. The Bay of Islands is one of my favourite spots. DH was a tour coach driver in a past life and Waitangi was his second home as he was there 2 nights per week. A couple of times I got to join him which was an added bonus when it was on the weekend. Thanks for the info. I'm actually on the Solstice sailing right before yours. I'm doing a morning excursion "Hole in the Rock". Is there allot to do in Waitangi or Russell? Thinking of doing something independently after the excursion.

Grumpy100 Posted February 21, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 21, 2013 We did the ships tour in the Bay of Islands and went to the Kauai Tree excursion and saw the glow worm caves. It was very interesting. Happy sailing.

Do you know far it is from the tender station in Waitangi? Assuming we tender there.

We stayed at - http://www.millenniumhotels.co.nz/copthornebayofislands/ We did a beautiful waterfront walk along the public right of way through the Waitangi Treaty Grounds and the golf course to the end and back. (We had visited the most interesting Waitangi Treaty Grounds previously.)

no fuss travel Posted March 19, 2013 #10 Share Posted March 19, 2013 Depends where they tender you to. If you are the first ship in, you will be close to the Treaty Grounds, if you are not the first then it is about a 30 minute walk to the Treaty grounds. Free wifi at the library.
