Bay of Islands Tender Port

The tender will either go to Waitangi (a 20 min walk from Paihia) or to Russell and this will be dependent on how many ships in on the day, tides, weather etc.

Either way your tour operator should be able to cope with either eventuality, after all they will be doing tours on a daily basis so will know the 'ropes'.

I believe there may be a shuttle service from Waitangi to Paihia also.

The Bay of Islands is one of my favourite spots. DH was a tour coach driver in a past life and Waitangi was his second home as he was there 2 nights per week. A couple of times I got to join him which was an added bonus when it was on the weekend.

Thanks for the info. I'm actually on the Solstice sailing right before yours. I'm doing a morning excursion "Hole in the Rock". Is there allot to do in Waitangi or Russell? Thinking of doing something independently after the excursion.

This is a really beautiful region of North Island, NZ. You will find plenty to do independently.

thank you for the info. Very helpful. I'm very intested in doing the Waitangi Treaty Grounds on my own. Do you know far it is from the tender station in Waitangi? Assuming we tender there.

If your ship tenders to Waitangi, you will be right next to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

We stayed at -

We did a beautiful waterfront walk along the public right of way through the Waitangi Treaty Grounds and the golf course to the end and back.

(We had visited the most interesting Waitangi Treaty Grounds previously.)
