TravelScoot and tours

We just returned from 20 days on the Emerald Princess. This was our first cruise with a scooter. While the cruise was to Princess's standards, I was disappointed with tours available for people with scooters. I nor my wife are wheelchair bound and we've been to these islands several times but wanted more than a driving tour. Living in Washington state I plan to visit Travelscoot's office in Chehalis, WA (about 50 miles from were we live). And will probably buy two for both of us.

My question for those who have purchased these scooters. When on a standard tour, do you carry it on board with you, put it under the coach or what? I know that the large sightseeing buses have storage compartments under the bus, but does the standard buses used in most port also have a place for the scooter? I know that the mini buses I'll need to carry them onto the bus. But I also carry a portable oxygen concentrator on board so my space will be limited.

I refuse to be limited by what someone else thinks I can and can't do.

In the big buses (when I could still do steps), it went into the under storage area. On other types of transport we collapsed it and put it wherever directed. I have found I am much better served when I make independent arrangements rather than rely on the cruise ship excursions. The big benefit for me is that with independent arrangements is that I am in charge of what I see and how I get there. Frequently the bus cannot get close enough to the site for easy access whereas a taxi or van can get there easily. Several cities in Europe don't allow buses to enter their center (Florence comes to mind) and I prefer to get closer before transferring to the scooter.

  • 2 weeks later...

I used a roll actor for excursions in Europe. Took quite a few excursions by motor coach and found all of the modern and comfortable coaches have very steep front and rear steps. Had to pull myself up the steps using my arms which was no easy feat. Had no problem with stowage or climbing the steps in the 12 person mini busses available on private tours. They still have storage. Hatch below. Worked much better.o
