Wildgrits Posted February 14, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2013 If you emailed a company about reserving an excursion at a port of call, how long would you wait for a response before moving on to their competition? The excursion in question has about 10 companies with good reviews offering the same thing? Also, excursion out of the country so I'm not willing to call them. sail7seas Posted February 14, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2013 Not more than 48 hours. If they aren't efficient and eager to present themselves well prior to the tour, how will they treat you on the day of your tour?
Allis154 Posted February 14, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 14, 2013 I would also say 48 hours, but take into consideration time zones...Trying to deal with AU can take 3-4 days to get an answer.
John Bull Posted February 14, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 14, 2013 Weekends, public holidays, time zones. I guess mebbe 3 to 4 days. Have you checked your spam box? That done - how long have you been waiting? JB :)
Putterdude Posted February 14, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 14, 2013 I have waited 4 or 5 days for a reply if it is a company that I really want to tour with and it is a tour that I really am interested in.
Rare Scrapnana Posted February 14, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 14, 2013 I would email them one more time, give them 24 hours and then go to another company if I still had no reply.
cruiseco Posted February 14, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 14, 2013 Is this a one-person driver/guide company? If so I'd give it three or four days. If it's a large enough company that you would expect them to have some sort of office staff to handle these types of things then maybe 48 hours. Philob Posted February 14, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 14, 2013 Depending on time zones, 48 hours. If your port of call is in Asia, they are still in Lunar New Year mode and you may not get a reply until next week.
Wildgrits Posted February 14, 2013 Author #9 Share Posted February 14, 2013 I emailed on January 30th. So I guess I don't have to feel bad moving on then.

jocap Posted February 14, 2013 #11 Share Posted February 14, 2013 Is this for the Caribbean, or the Med? .....because a lot of Med sites close down over winter, and the people might not even be in the country (I'm thinking about Santorini etc, where a lot of tour operators go home to Athens for the winter).
NoobCruise Posted February 15, 2013 #12 Share Posted February 15, 2013 I usually email several companies at once requesting info. If a company doesn't respond within about 48 hours, then they are no longer considered. There may be exceptions, such as if I emailed an Alaska excursion in December, I might give them a few extra days, because it's off season there. Most of the mom & pop places in AK are closed until April - & their websites even say they won't be responding.

rachelfran Posted February 15, 2013 #15 Share Posted February 15, 2013 Don't underestimate the power of spam. I run list serves that routinely have the problem of some members not getting messages because they end up in spam folders that they do not check. More and more people use yahoo and gmail and these problems are routine. I had to resend a message to Harv & Marv in Juneau before getting a reply.. I know they are very reputable so I'm glad I resent and got the reply I was looking for... Rachel Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
