If that's the case, make sure you register your S&S to your own card, each person can pay their own. The charge goes on each person's account.

 

I read one review that said ships sailing out of Galveston do not have the Cheers program available on embarkation day, due to something about Texas liquor laws. Any confirmation of this?

I just read the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission laws on this.

 

Texas has outlawed a number of things that would make Cheers Illegal while in US waters off the coast of Texas. One of which is "

Retailers may not sell, serve or offer alcoholic beverages at a reduced price to consumers paying a fixed buy in price." and "Retailers may not sell serve or offer an undetermined quantity of alcoholic beverages for a fixed price or “all you can drink” basis."

 

Based on these two rules in the laws, Carnival cannot offer the ;Cheers program while in Texas waters. I will inquire as to if you can buy in to cheers after you hit international waters.

Are the brands of beers and wines on the lists posted available on all ships or does it vary? Specifically the wines by the glass and draft beers. I only remember having bottles available on past cruises and there were only a handful of beers to choose from. I hope they have Blue Moon on Victory!

That's the entire list of alcohol provided is Everything they have, it may vary on ship, and by time of year, as all wine does. I have noticed however that different bars offer different wine. there's usually a Wine bar (sometimes the piano bar) that has more than other bars on the boat. You will also find a larger selection in the MDR than at the bars on the lido deck.

Seems as though that needs a clarification too.

That's silly. My guess is that they were 'bending the rules' to make the customer happy (without getting themselves in trouble), as CCL most likely gave them a list of not-approved beverages.

Watch out for this. On the sailing we did, a member of our group was sailing with 2 friends. She asked twice to be sure they would split the charge out to the three accounts in her room. They told her it would.

 

She ended up having to get the bar manager involved because it didn't and it was big mess to straighten out. Turns out there's a policy that the entire room is charged to one S&S card.

I know the specialty coffee from their private labled starbucks isn't included. I will have to check on regular coffee. I'm a purist, give me coffee black and I'll drink it. give me starbucks, and I'll throw it out.

 

I am currently trying to find out about the DOD, they are sold with the cup on the first drink for 14.95, so that's a NO, the refills are in question

 

On the Breeze in January the DODs weren't being served in the hurricane glasses any longer. Just a regular tall glass.

 

One of the problems with the program when cruising out of Galveston (my homeport) is that only Texas taxed liqours can be served. So at embarkation the only Chardonnay that I can get is Berringers and it's not even offerred at other times of the cruise.

 

The bars only have about 15 bottles of liqour to choose from......No Thirsty Frog Red until after sailaway........I think that's one of the reasons that sailaway in Galveston almost always occurs in the middle of the muster drill......it takes about 30 minutes to get out of the channel and out past the 3mile marker.

 

I bought the Cheers program on both legs of our B2B on the Breeze last month. Both weeks they charged it to just one S&S card (ours are linked so no big deal) but everytime they asked if they could charge to just one card. I saw many people say no and then the individual card is charged.

 

Not everyone in the cabin over 21 has to go to the bar to purchase the program, just everyone's card has to be there for the stamp to be afixed to.

 

The bartenders also know how many over 21's there are in each cabin...I sadly saw several individuals try to purchase the program saying that they were the only over 21 in the cabin and the bartender would come back and say....I'm sorry the systems says there are 2, if that's not correct you need to go to Guest Services to have it fixed.

 

The program can be purchased NOT ONLY at the Lobby bar (which is by far the busiest during embarkation), but also up on the Lido deck at the aft pool bar and the bars at midship.

 

The bartenders can tell you how many drinks have been rung up under the program......and I say it that way only because even though I knew that I was at 7 or 8 drinks, when I would ask they would say I had only had 5....I'm sure some bartenders are very strict about counting every drink, but I noticed as the week went on (and especially on the 2nd week)...they got very lax with us regarding what was and wasn't counted against our daily limit.

As I said above, if 3 cards are presented they ask if they can just charge to one card. (it's much easier than ringing up 3 different programs). If the customer says no (and has a S&S account set up for each individual) then there will be 3 separate charges rung up and each individual will have to sign for their own program purchase.

 

My sister and I live together and so we only have one credit card that covers both of our onboard charges. The card is mine but I give her charging priveledges....so when they asked if they could just charge to one card I said yes.......

 

If we had two different credit cards we would still both have to present our cards but each one would be charged for their own program.

Just got back from 7 day Liberty cruise, Western caribbean, 4 ports.

My husband and I purchased the Cheers program the moment we stepped onboard, $691 for both of us.

Added up all receipts, came out to $705.

We never came close to 15 drinks in a day, but worth it to us as we knew our bar bill from the start.

He is a beer drinker, me, rum, wine and other frozen drinks.

I assume you mean the servers who walk around asking for orders on the sun or lido deck.

Question for you though. Did you get a special card for drinks? if not, they won't know until they've already gotten you a drink that youre a cheers member, in which case, it shouldn't take any longer? I do remember from the many years ago when I cruised last, they took forever to bring me a drink anyway, the further you are from the bar, the longer it will take. I know if I were a drink runner, I'd check on the close people first, as its' fast and easy.

 

ALL bar servers, walkers, bartenders and dining room bar attendants. All share in the Cheers tips. Once they have gotten one drink, they know. However I have to admit, I think they were also sorely lacking in bar servers to begin with?

They put a sticker on your sign & sail, but it's in the computer when they input your folio number as well. No special card. Also, if you get an alcoholic drink, you must still wait 5 min for your 2nd drink, even soda.

My DH and I used this program on the Breeze. We were able to buy each other drinks if we took the sail and sign card with us to the bar. We did have the 5 minute rule applied. My DH knocked over his beer shooting pool and the bartender told him he had to wait 5 min before he could serve him again.

 

Any idea when the rest of the ships may get the program or if it will always be the ones listed?

Can you get unopened beers?

 

I know i have to wait the 5 minutes, but could I assemble my own bucket in 15 minutes with them being unopened?

My info came straight from the bar manager on the Liberty. He told us that per Carnival policy, Cheers card purchases could only be charged to one s&S in the room no matter how many people or individual s&s accounts were in the room. We were introduced to him later in the cruise and asked about what had happened to our friends.

 

In the case of our friend (she is on the boards here - will see if I can get her to stop by this thread and explain furhter) there were three separate accounts with three separate credit cards. She was assured when purchasing it would be split amongst the three accounts only to find out later that policy was to charge only the primary account in the room. It was a huge ordeal that involed the bar manager to get it fixed.
