Anyone know about this ???

I am still confused about this Cheers program.

Below is the 4-day cruise we are booked on.

I can't see a need for the Cheers program on the day we depart (Thu 4:00pm), since the day is almost over. Anyway, I guess you can sign up for it on the next day (Fri).

So, I guess you would be paying for 3 days (Fri-Sat-Sun)

I can't see how they could make you pay for the last day (Mon), since you get back to Miami at 8:00 in the morning:

Thu ......Depart Miami ......4:00 PM

Fri ....... Key West ...........7:30 AM - 2:00 PM .......Cheers

Sat ...... Cozumel ............1:00 PM - 10:00 PM ......Cheers

Sun ...... At Sea ................................................Cheers

Mon ......Arrive Miami .......8:00 AM

Question ... Is this how the program works?

Will I be charged for 3 days of Cheers on a 4-day cruise?

Actually, it's a bad idea to have the Cheers program on the day we will be in Cosumel too, since your off the ship from 1:00pm until 10:00pm, but I guess you just loose out on that day .... Carnival's gain!

.

OK...first of all, why would you not want to have the program on the day you depart? The ship leaves at 4:00, but you can get on board at 12 Noon and drink until the bars close at 3:00 AM. That's 15 hours of possible drinking. With regards to Cozumel, you could possibly drink on board between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM and from 10:00 PM to 3:00 AM, giving you 9 hours of possible drinking.

It really does not matter anyway because the Cheers program is currently only available on 13 ships in the fleet and NONE of them sail any 3 or 4 day itineraries. The shortest cruise available with the Cheers program are the 5 day sailings on the Victory or the Glory.

If that's the case, make sure you register your S&S to your own card, each person can pay their own. The charge goes on each person's account.

I just read the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission laws on this.

Texas has outlawed a number of things that would make Cheers Illegal while in US waters off the coast of Texas. One of which is "

Retailers may not sell, serve or offer alcoholic beverages at a reduced price to consumers paying a fixed buy in price." and "Retailers may not sell serve or offer an undetermined quantity of alcoholic beverages for a fixed price or “all you can drink” basis."

Based on these two rules in the laws, Carnival cannot offer the ;Cheers program while in Texas waters. I will inquire as to if you can buy in to cheers after you hit international waters.

Sorry, but this has not been my experience. I was on a girl's cruise in January and we each registered our S&S cards separately. ALL three were charged to my account! I was told that the program has to be charged to one account for all guests in a cabin. Only after talking to the Bar Manager did this get resolved. It was not easy to get him to change it either! The program was great and using it at the Alchemy bar was the best, but the policy about charging one S&S even when cruising with friends, is crazy and needs to be changed.

We were on the Legend a couple of weeks ago and participated in the Cheers program. We figured we saved around $300 with the program. My husband would upgrade the liquor to a top shelf brand instead of well with his drink. We also decided that if we got a drink we didn't like, we could just order something different. This was a perfect time to try the different drinks offered. As long as you didn't order the DOD in the souvenir glass, it was included.

We left out of Tampa and while in Tampa they did have to charge you tax on the drink.

My husband did come close to the limit a couple of nights and the bartender would just let him know how many drinks he had that day.

Even if we had not come out ahead on the program, we already knew how much was going to be charged to our S&S.

The only issue I had was that I earned Drinks On Us in the casino. Since I already had Cheers it really didn't mean that much. They may have to rethink the Casino rewards if the Cheers program continues.

we were successful in having the cheers program charged to each individual person's SS cards. There were 2 of us in a room and each had our own credit card attached to our own SS card. Each of us received a statement at the end of the trip... showed ~$250 charge for each of us. must depend on the bartender and his skills (or desires). the front desk CAN adjust the accounts also.

I tihnk we have the opposite problem, which sounds like it might not be an issue. SO & his son are in one cabin and I am booked in the other, with his son's gf because of their ages. I want all 3 of us on his S&S card for the cheers program. GF wonn't be 21, so no cheer for her

We are sailing on the Glory for a 2 day cruise to nowhere. I am hoping we will still be able to do this! Has anyone done this yet?

You should be able to, as the Glory does participate in this program.

QUESTION: Can I get this on Every Cruise?

A: NO Currently the program is available on the following ships only:

Carnival Breeze

Carnival Conquest

Carnival Dream

Carnival Freedom

Carnival Glory

Carnival Legend

Carnival Liberty

Carnival Magic

Carnival Miracle

Carnival Pride

Carnival Splendor

Carnival Valor

Carnival Victory

I got the cheers on the Conquest in January, 2013 and they insisted the soda WAS included in the 15 drink limit! I argued that was rediculous and the staff person selling it said the bar manager had just reiterated that that morning. So, if you drink a lot of soda, it will reduce the amount of alcoholic drinks you can get.

We never got to the 15 limit, so it really didn't matter for us, but others may have a problem if due to drinking soda they get to 15 by 7pm!

I think they really need to confirm all these details for the program so the bar managers on all ships have the same rules. I don't know if other ships have this same rule or not.

This was fixed on that cruise. They put in a call to Miami because the ship had the wrong information. This was the first cruise after the limit was imposed.

I have read and seen the menus where you can upgrade Martini's with grey goose for $1 more which is still under the $10 limit. Can you upgrade other drinks with vodka to grey goose as well as long as it stays under $10? Thinking about a Bloody Mary.

Also did anyone confirm if you could ask for and get an unopened beer so you can take it back to your cabin to drink while you are getting ready that evening?

Thanks so much!

Yes, you can upgrade to Grey Goose. The best Bloody Mary is at the stand outside the entrance to the Punchliner Brunch. It comes in a pint glass with a double shot and you can spice it up as much as you like with various hot sauces and horseradish. Even two types of celery as a garnish. With regards to getting an unopened beer, yes, you can order it that way to take back to your cabin.

Thanks for the info! It's good they're consolidating all the rules so some ships aren't dealing with misinformation. :)

I apologize if this was in a post and I missed it but what about bottled water? I thought I had read somewhere that it wasn't included in the program but you get 25% off. Can anyone confirm? What is the cost of bottled water?

You are correct that water is not inc. but you do get a 25% discount. Don't know what the prices are at the bar but here is the link for the funshop which has a large bottle at $5 and a 6pack of water at $10

If this has been covered I apologize....

My question is... Can you purchase the Cheers program on the 2nd day? Here is the reason I ask:

I am cruising in July for my best friends wedding, and during the reception there will be an open bar. Then after the wedding is over we will be attending a meet and greet that will also have open bar. So if I have 4 hours of open bar I do not want to have to pay for that day of the cheers program, since it won't be worth the money. It would make much more sense to me to get it on day 2.

YES you can.... you will have to wait 5 minutes between orders (and find a bartender/waiter) but you can build a bucket to go. . . kinda takes some planning... a beer(or 2) to drink while you are waiting 20-25 minutes...

IF there are 2 people, then you can certainly knock a few minutes off the time

Yes, you can purchase it on day 2 and you'll only be charged for the remainder of the days in your sailing

Has anyone been on the Glory lately and done cheers? Just wondering if they allow you to buy drinks after the 15 drink limit. Thanks!

If you drink mixed drinks, how about trying 15 Long Island Iced Teas, or if you're a beer drinker, how about 15 Foster's Oil Cans? Either way, if would be a difficult challenge to drink them all and then you would not need to consume more than what the program allows. If you really need to consume more than 15, why not sail on Celebrity, whose drink program is unlimited?

If has been reported both ways on the boards with regards to being able to purchase any more drinks after the 15 limit. Some people have been able to, while others have been cut off, while others were able to finagle drinks using their partners card.

Looks like our S&S cards will be taxed to death on our Alaska cruise using the cheers program.

Wow didn't think about that one. So entire cruise on Alaskan cruise you pay the tax? I like the pricier drinks so when we were on Splendor before we set sail I paid about 80 cents a drink and had four before we left.

Pardon me, but I'm too lazy to read through the earlier pages of this thread to possibly find my answer.:o But in one of these Cheers threads I read about people who had purchased the program and since everyone was in the same room they charged the main person on the room for everyone's program, even though they all had their own S&S accounts. Is that really what happens?
