If you are like me I pay the balance off in full each month so it wouldn't really matter. Yes you can cancel the purchase. If you haven't yet change you credit card for your onboard account.

Generally I do as well, but I have a bonus coming from work in June, so if I can stretch out $900 for Cheers + on-board expenses (probably another $500-$700 over a couple of months interest free, I might do that.

ALready changed the credit card on account this morning :-)

True, but the 0 APR over 18 months is a better deal than paying it all off in one statement... as long as you actually do pay it off by the time the promotion ends!!!

49.95 pp, per night, so 49.95 x 4, plus 15% gratuity. (229.77)

This price is incorrect now. The price of $49.95 is only if the package is pre-purchased. If you wait until you are on board the price is $54.95 per day plus the 15% gratuity.

So 54.95 X 15% =$63.1925 per day X 4 days = $252.77.

My only concern right now is service... Do you have good service with Cheers? Like in the dining room, when you want a specific glass of wine?? Do you use it in the steakhouse??

Yes and Yes and remember those who tip a little extra get what they want

Thanks for the reply.

So for roughly the last year I have been gradually saving Carnival Gift Cards. My intention was to use that money to pay for the Cheers. With the new changes to Cheers, I have to pre-order or spend more on board. At this time, I cannot pre-order online and pay with gift cards. Does anyone know if I can pre-order and pay with gift cards by phone? I have talked to others on FB groups who said this was an issue, but nobody has talked to anyone from Carnival yet. If I can't, I can't. I'll just put that $$ towards something else onboard, but I'd like to use it towards Cheers as I can't see spending that much on anything else.

Call Carnival, explain the situation, and ask nicely. They should be able to do it manually over the phone, and you'd get that $5 a day savings.

I called Carnival and you are not able to use gift cards to pre-purchase Cheers. I do hope that they will change this, their profit does not change, it is just a convenience for it's customers.

That is frustrating for sure. I don't sail until October so hopefully the checkout changes by then.

Their profit does change as they have to pay the retailer a commission and a fee to the company that distributes the gift cards. But they should still let them be used. If it were me I'd apply the cards to my S&S account then move the money to a casino account on a slot machine and cash it out. Kind of a pain but at least you'd get the Cheers! at the cheaper price.

It's not a cash vs card thing, though. It's when the program is purchased. If purchased before you board, it is $5 cheaper/day.

A fellow cruiser turns 21 on the 4th day of our 8 night cruise. Do you think Carnival will allow him to buy the Cheers Card on his birthday?

Nope, since Cheers must be purchased within the first two days of the voyage. (Second day for cruises from NY, TX, and AL )

Can still use gift cards to buy once onboard, but, as you noted, it's more expensive on board.

Does anyone know if Carnival has plans to allow for the option of paying for Cheers when you originally book? Meaning having a box to check to add it in (like you would when prepaying gratuities)?

Just a thought...

Probably not in the plans, but that's just my opinion. Two totally different systems - the booking system and the Fun Shops/Excursions systems.

That makes sense; I hadn't even considered that! Thanks for your input :)

It would be nice (and smart from a financial standpoint) - but I find CCL systems to be totally antiquated. When they did the VIFP conversion a few years ago, it was a total disaster for weeks. I'm honestly surprised they managed to incorporate the Cheers! purchase into the Fun Shops without major issue.
