jwalk03 Posted February 22, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) It depends on your carrier. With Verizon most of Puerto Rico is included on the Nationwide plan, so as long as you are not roaming you will not be charged. If your phone is roaming the charge is $.69 per minute in Puerto Rico. From the Verizon site: Most of Puerto Rico is included in the Nationwide and America’s Choice Coverage Areas. If you roam out of the Nationwide or America’s Choice coverage area, you will be charged $.69 per minute. Please use your device's banner as an indicator of your roaming status. Click here to view the approximate coverage areas. Edited February 22, 2013 by jwalk03

kicia Posted February 22, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 22, 2013 Our AT&T phone and hot spot work in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John) with no roaming fees. We also have a pay as you go Verizon phone that would have charged us a lot of roaming fees in Puerto Rico. To make sure, call your carrier so they can check your plan to verify there will be no extra fees.

Havingfun2010 Posted February 23, 2013 #18 Share Posted February 23, 2013 Best thing to do is check with your carrier. NOT all rate plans are treated the same way! Check with your carrier for the correct answer, and take the guessing out of it.
marter99 Posted February 23, 2013 #19 Share Posted February 23, 2013 Definitely check with your carrier regarding your plan. I was in Wisconsin last year (I live in Michigan), and we got charged for roaming - had a huge bill when we got home because I never thought that would happen, made daily calls home. We have AT&T. thomarvin Posted September 19, 2014 #24 Share Posted September 19, 2014 Puerto Rico is just the 51st state. No different than the reg US sorry but PR is not a state. It is a territory. We have AT&T and used our phones there with no problem (or extra charges) But always check with your own carrier to make sure.
beyond2k Posted September 19, 2014 #25 Share Posted September 19, 2014 use wi fi and skype put the phone in "airplane mode" or else a big phone bill i am going b2b on freedom starting 9/27 With most carriers, PR and St.Thomas are free. Free WiFi may not be available in all areas so you're better off using a cell signal in those ports.
