Just back from cruise on the Jewel

Water was chilly but people were in the water especially the kids lol but too cold for me. The weather was around 80 degrees. I got sunburn. Everything went smoothly. We made every port on time. I think we made it to GSC early bc the night before at Port Canaveral the ship was supposed to leave at 10pm but by 9:40 we were pulling out of port. I guess everyone was accounted for and onboard so we left early. I had a great time. I highly recommend the coconut soufflé for dessert in the MDR. It was served Tuesday night. I ordered another after eating the first lol my bf was asking for it every night after that seeing if maybe we could get another but that was served only on Tuesday night. On the last sea day, Saturday they crew puts on a talent show. I highly recommend seeing it. The crew on the ship works very hard doing their jobs and don't get the recognition they deserve by some people and you can see they really enjoy their jobs. NCL allowing the crew to show their hidden talents on stage for the passengers enjoyment really shows how dedicated the staff is on NCL and gives the passengers a way to show their appreciation for their hard work and dedication. :)

Thank you for the great review. I am on the Jewel march 24th. It will be Easter/Passover break for NY schools. I am sure the ship will be full of kids including my own. ughhhhhhh! lol I guess I should try to be on the first tender over to GSC to ensure a good seat close to the ocean, right? I will have to be able to see the kids in the water. oh boy there is so much to plan for....

Thank you for your review, we are doing out first NCL cruise on the Jewel in December from New Orleans. Your comments confirm we have made the right decision to try NCL and the Jewel. We have a group of 20 in 10 cabins. All of the men in our group are prostate cancer survivors and members of an online support group from all over the US.

Unless your in a penthouse or haven you might not make the first tender bc they have priority and I was on during presidents week and the ship was sold out which your week will probably just as crowded. I was in a penthouse and we were on the first tender. My bf went running early that morning and saw people on line for tender tickets by 6am. Reserve a clam shell for GSC. They only sell a certain amount so that'll at least guarantee you lounge chairs. And if you have water shoes for your kids I highly recommend them bc the water has ALOT of rocks in them.

Could you tell me what the weather was like leaving NYC? Was the first sea day a waste because you couldn't lay out in the sun? I almost booked this trip for my wife and I and our two kids but was worried we would lose two days cause of the weather.

What did you do if you were unable to use the pools at sea days?

The temp in NYC the day we sailed was 28 degrees. I do have a pic on my phone of me on the balcony for our sail away cocktail and I am in fleece pants, a long sleeve jersey , a sweater, a fleece , a winter jacket. scarf, gloves and a hat. I do not know how to post pictures though. It was cold but that was ok. The first day there were not many people in the pool. Jut some kids a few brave adults. I went to the spa, my husband went to the gym. We did a walk around the promenade deck all bundled up. Went to the stores on the ship. Had some margaritas, went to dinner and then I hit the casino. By the time we got to Florida Tuesday it was warm. I wasn't really paying attention but there seemed to be a lot of activities for kids. We dont lay in the sun as my husband is fair skinned and has some issues with the skin. On the way home the Friday started out warm but the as the sun started to set it did start to feel cold again. The last day was cold. I just stayed in my cabin most of the day reading. Had my last Margarita Madness special :( we went to dinner the show and then to the casino.

I wish you and your family a great cruise. I love sailing out of NYC.

It was cold the day we left. I was in an aft balcony so I stayed on my balcony until after sailing under the bridge. I was cold but I had no wind. The pool is heated and the temp of the pool is about 85 degrees. On Monday night it was much warmer and I was able to go out on the balcony without a jacket. There was some people in the pool. Mostly kids. Friday afternoon was very windy and it got chilly but people still were out taking the sun to get that last bit of color lol Saturday our last sea day it rained all day. I played bingo on the last sea day and they had a few games like battle of the sexes trivia, jeopardy and the staff Q&A and staff talent show. I had dinner in the MDR and at night they had a game sing it to win it and that was fun. They also had an adult scavenger hunt called quest. It was a lot of fun. A bit raunchy and no kids were allowed in. I played with 2 other couples as a team and we won lol. You don't need to bring items in a typical scavenger hunt they just made you do crazy things lol. The last sea day I felt there was more to do than any other day.

I have read somewhere on the CC boards about an all inclusive drinks package for about $49 each. It said it had to be purchased by both passengers in the cabin. Has anyone heard of it.

Thanks for the replies. CC is great for us to get information over here re cruises in the US.

Cheers for now from Bribie Island, Queensland Australia

Must be purchased by all passengers staying in the same cabin that are legal drinking age. Soda package can be pp. I was 2 people in a cabin of age but my bf doesn't drink. It wasn't worth it for me bc I'd have to drink $100 worth of drinks per day. I'd be hammered the whole cruise lol

Hi

Thanks for the information. DH is wondering the price for say a beer, glass of wine and a whiskey and soda. Is there a site any where that has the list of alcohol prices. I think we could manage to get our monies worth and it would be good not to have to worry about the RR's. My DH likes Rum and can't get his favourite - Bundaberg Rum - overseas but with the restrictions put on carrying liquids in aeroplanes he can't bring any with him - so sad LOL

Thanks again.

Idk the beer prices bc I don't drink beer but they did have a special bucket that if you buy 5 you get one free. I drink grey goose and seltzer and it runs about $7.50 a glass and its not a large glass. I asked for a regular glass like they serve the water in and they consider that a double and it was about $15.

If I remember correctly the beer prices range for $4.95-6.95 depending on type and size. Mixed drinks could be anywhere from $6.95 and up depending on what is in them and whether or not you get the souvenir cup. Watch out for specials though as each day they were running something. I remember each morning at the pool bar they had bloody mary's for $5 each.

We leave on the Jewel one week from this Sunday. I've been on her before, but not for three or four years. I'm so glad you had a great time. This is the first time I'm there without kids, so I'll definitely look for the adults only pool... I forgot about it, kinda!

Is the Adults Only Pool the Sapphire Pool on Deck 12 without the slide?

Thanks,

Yes, although we did see some kids in it, there's a sign telling kids they have a pool of their own.

I was sitting at the adult pool and saw parents with kids get told to leave.

The UB package was available on this cruise - $49pp/pd plus gratuity. Several members of our group signed up for it - NCL did NOT require everyone in the cabin to sign up - not sure if this was an oversight, but it was allowed...

We are members of the Casinos at Sea program so we drink for free in the casino in the evening. We don't drink too much during the day so we didn't opt for the UB. We did, however, take advantage of the 2 for 1 special everyday for our pre-dinner cocktail. This was offered from 4-6pm and we considered it to be a great deal. No call liquors or specialty drinks but we didn't care.

A bucket of six 16 oz Miller Lite aluminum cans was about $34 - we thought this was also a good deal. Had a couple of those throughout the week - put them in the fridge for later if we didn't drink all of them!!
