Cruise Cash

I used to buy Fun Ship Dollars now and then, but from what I've read the change to Cruise Cash isn't something I'll be taking advantage of. Fun Ship Dollars were fully refundable and I've read that Cruise Cash is a use it or lose it situation and that's not a risk I'm willing to take. I don't like the restrictions. Sigh.

I wanted to put 1000 dollars on our account and went to buy cruise cash and the purchase would have added 70 dollars in sales tax. I bought an egift card instead at canival gift cards dot com and there was no tax and I added it to our account as soon as we boarded.

What's crazy? That it would have cost me 70 for 1000 or that I wanted to add 1000? We were on an 8 day and wanted to buy Cheers. Then there is the casino and jewelry and photos. We still ended up adding more money at the end, lol :D

That was an error in the system that has now been corrected. I just bought my 3rd round of Cruise Cash to load up my OBC and no taxes have been charged.

Well that's good to know! So was that added to your account or did you have to go to the desk on board and have it added?

Oh, you can put as much on your S&S as you want--I'm not going to judge. ;) That they were charging sales tax on it is CRAZY!! LOL.

Best thing to do is forget about cruise cash, bar credits, etc and store your money in a piggy bank if you feel some need to pay in advance. Use a credit card with a reward and charge your cruise and Sail and sign on it and then pay it off completely when the bill comes due. You are then using the credit card money at no charge verse letting Carnival hold your money for nothing with possible risk of losing any unused credit. I use my Costco American Express to book the cruise and for S & S bill and get 2 percent back in the form of cash rebate. I charged a $ 2600 dollar cruise to my card and made $ 52 dollars for doing nothing more than using the card. Same with S & S bill. Was around $900 dollars and made 18 more dollars for using my credit card. I had free use of the money from American Express and paid it off in full when it came do. For those without credit cards I understand your dilemma.

Last night, I bought $100 Cruise Bar Cash for our Pride cruise this month. I know I will go over that as I will be buying the Bottomless Bubbles package plus drinks here + there. Have never had a problem of it going to waste before!!!

I'd like to know if Cruise Cash is refundable if not used. I can't seem to find anything on Carnival's website that confirms.

No it is not refundable. There are many threads on CC where this is a discussion. Even Mischelle from Carnival Funville stated in one thread here that it is "Use it or Lose It" meaning if you do not spend it then Carnival keeps the leftover.

From Carnival's website:

Cruise Cash provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account. This credit is good for any charge made to their account including taxes and gratuity charges. Cruise Cash is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings. Cruise Cash is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited.

http://www.carnival.com/FunShops/item/D28/cruise-cash-general

As you can see from above it does state it is only for a single voyage, not to be transferred to future bookings, non-refundable and "use it or lose it".

A "win win" situation for Carnival.

It is added to the account as OBC. No need to go to guest services.

I thought I would put a little on my S&S account just to try the Cruise Cash. No tax was charged.

Does it show up in your documents somewhere? If so does it take awhile to show since I am not seeing anything yet. Thanks!

It does not show up in your cruise documents, or anywhere else at the moment. I spoke to Bon Voyage and they said that anytime you would like to know your current balance of Cruise Cash, just call them and they would be happy to help.

Do you have their number. I looked on Carnival's website and could not find it. We bought bar coupons (before they became bar cash) and I do not know how many I bought. :o

Thanks. Now I know how much I have. Now to figure out what to do. Its definitely not more than we can use for drinks. I am debating on whether to add a little more cruise cash or just let it overflow to credit cards. We are at a level where using cheers is not economically effective, but we could still probably rack up $300 bill on our 7 day cruise.
