Macadian Posted March 23, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2013 Hi all. We are on the verge of booking my first cruise with Celebrity on the Equinox early 2014. My wife has sailed with Celebrity some years ago but I have only sailed with NCL & HAL in the past. Main reason we are going with Celebrity this time around is the 'smoking policy' e.g. no smoking on state room balconies. A small thing to some I am sure but this has marred some of our cruises in the past, sufficiently so to induce us to 'change horses' so to speak. To date we have sailed on ships of around 2000 passengers, the 'Equinox' being 2800....a much larger ship than we are used to (or prefer). Have checked out the ships layout etc but would like to confirm that it is possible to walk around the ship (promenade deck?) from stem to stern as I do a lot of walking (usually after dinner and before going to bed). Any insight would be appreciated from those who have cruised 'equinox' before. Thanks in advance, appreciated.
Rare cruisestitch Posted March 23, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2013 There is no covered walk-around promenade, but you can walk around the ship on the deck overlooking the pool area.
dln929 Posted March 23, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2013 Macadian, if you look at deck plans you'll see a marked walking/jogging path on Deck 14. If you like to keep track of your mileage there's a little sign telling you how many times around makes the mile. It's not a very long path, though, so I usually walk it in combination with the stairs up to Decks 15 and 16. As to Deck 5, the port side is the smoking side so you'll want to avoid that. If you exit starboard side at the doors by Cafe al Bacio instead, you can walk the length of the deck. Lots of people do but I warn you there's very little in the way of views as the lifeboats and tenders are parked there. Having said that, we really enjoy Deck 5. It's a quiet place for walking, reading, and relaxing.
fishycomics Posted March 23, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 23, 2013 Deck 15. Walking, running you will encounter SMOKERS but they will be not on the walking path. On deck five forward as well outside. So when you are on your balcony, you may smell a smoker here or there. not a thing we can do, but just cruise on This is the Eclipse
jackdiamond Posted March 23, 2013 #5 Share Posted March 23, 2013 Another alternative, is vigorous pool walking in the Solarium Pool. As you know, vigorous pool walking is twice as efficacious as is land walking; hence, 1 hour equals two hours land walking. Additionally, if you combine this with proper ancillarly excerises, then you will have accomplished a three hour exercise regimen. And added benefit, is that when you are finished you can dine at the Aqua Spa Cafe, which provides very good and healthy food.
Kevnzworld Posted March 23, 2013 #6 Share Posted March 23, 2013 I love the Equinox, I'm boarding in two weeks for 37 days. I'm also a walker. I walk for at least 30 minutes every morning. It's great to walk around the track on the S class ships after breakfast around 8:00 or so out in the fresh air. There are no smokers around then, and even the small area where they are isn't intrusive later, I HATE cigarette smoke. The Celebrity ships are one of the only that don't allow cigarette smoking in the Casino, so there is no odor permeating the ship.
Cruisechristi Posted March 23, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 23, 2013 She is a marvelous ship. My favorite of all lines I have cruised (20 and counting). I love their non-smoking policy. You can walk around the deck. And I wish you a fantastic sailing. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Macadian Posted March 23, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted March 23, 2013 Thanks Guys....great info and much appreciated. Just to clear one thing up though, smoking in the designated area's I am ok with, I can avoid them most of the time. However enjoying my balcony (no one smoking in the immediate vicinity) is my main concern. We will choose our stateroom carefully, on the stb'd side, and I am sure all will be well

Rare ORV Posted March 23, 2013 #10 Share Posted March 23, 2013 have a great trip. also excursions do not allow smoking. so that is also a Plus thing Yes, I've seen that mentioned, I've also seen people smoking on ship's tours. How about those excursions that go to a resort or beach where smoking is allowed?
fishycomics Posted March 23, 2013 #11 Share Posted March 23, 2013 For I do not do beach tours, because that is a big ash tray :D Agree. Talking about when on the bus, and after that, you cannot stop a person lighting up, but no one cannot stop you from bringing a bottle of Frebreeze :) constantly spray it. sad that the cruise line does not hand out those fake ciggs while they are onboard and with the cruise line, and slap them silly when they smoke a real one. life:(
