Sushi cut to save money

We are just off the Paradise. On our 4 day cruise, they have made the following sushi cuts:

1) They now only have 2 kinds to pick from instead of 4.

2) They only give you 3 pieces instead of 4.

3) They don't offer it on formal night.

4) It's made in advance and some guy just puts it on a plate, no more sushi master guy. No more custom orders....

5) They only have basic kinds like California roll and spicy tuna. No more eel or more adventurous types.

I would gues they are saving about 50% of the prior cost.

and your problem is what - when you had it in your home town how much did you pay - how much did you order - and did a sous chef serve it or the actual chef - and did you not hear that eel is now an endangered species because of US - ya, I really enjoy it too but when on a cruise I take what I can get

They did offer chocolate sushi and honeydew melon sushi at the dessert bar. Almost no one took any of it, maybe they made it for Easter? I tried it, and it was what you would expect - rice and honeydew flavors - not something I would actually pay to eat.

Yea we noticed the quality of the sushi was cut on the miracle when they added the taste bar and moved sushi to the buffet area.

My DH said the same thing. He loves sushi and really missed it since the taste bar stuff wasn't really his thing most nights. He got it a couple nights on the buffet and said it was terrible.

Bonsai is only available on Breeze.

But well worth it!

As I recall, many of the ships that used to have nightly sushi have shifted to the Tastes Bar. Which is intriguing and you can go back for more, if you really wanted to.

To me, eating sushi on Carnival is like having a steak at IHOP. It is technically sushi but not worth the effort of standing on line. I would not worry about it.

I agree even when they had it on dedicated sushi bar the fish was "cured" not very good at all

For those who our sailing on paradise out of Tampa

Try yoko's in south Tampa Very very good sushi

:rolleyes::rolleyes: Here we go again!! No one can state their opinion or give advice on this board that some might find helpful without some crazy person biting their head off for no reason. Take a chill pill please!! It's really not that serious.

And your whole "when on a cruise I take what I can get" comment is just ridiculous! You get what you pay for! Carnival is not a soup kitchen. If I'm paying for a vacation there are certain things I expect. Luckily I'm a glass half full kind of girl and can find the good in just about anything but you'd better believe I'd take my business elsewhere if I felt Carnival began cutting back a little too much for my liking.

As much as I enjoy sushi this cutback isn't a big deal to me. I had Carnival sushi on the Miracle and wasn't too impressed. Now when they stop serving Funship specials and close up the club, piano bar, karaoke, and casino THEN I'd definitely be going to another line. ;)

My daughter will be so disappointed when we go in June. At least they haven't removed it completely.

Panama Canal cruise last month, sushi available one night in the MDR, and that was it. Gone from the salad bar. They advertised it on the TV but there wasn't any. No, it isn't the greatest, but it's not bad. We missed it.

Didn't see Scotch eggs at breakfast either for 15 days. Pizza, burgers and the deli were good as usual tho.

Little off subject, but:

If you go to the "brunch", order the breakfast burrito, side of hash browns (squashed tater tots), and a side of pork link sausage. Cut up the sausage and hash browns and put in the burrito with plenty of tobasco. This made a pretty decent breakfast burrito.

I would like to take time to apologize to everyone for my post. As a long time poster I often call people on their nastiness and I got called on mine, which is justly deserved. My only excuse is that we so wanted to cruise this year but just to fly there would have cost us almost twice as much as the cruise itself and we just couldn't afford it. I have read sooo many critical and negative posts lately, when I would be happy just to be on the ship, that complaining about sushi was "the straw" that broke me. Sorry to have used this forum to take out my frustrations - I will not happen again. Maybe I need a break.
