Odd phone call from Carnival

I am 2 weeks away from my 13th Carnival Cruise. I had a phone call yesterday and today from a Carnival Vacation specialist-not my longstanding PVP-that I have never received prior to a cruise before. I found it pretty interesting and wonder if anyone has received this.

The Vacation Specialist was definitely with Carnival-I returned her call to the CCL number and her extension as directed and got her voicemail.

She had new information since things have "changed". (My last cruise was last March 11 so not really sure how much change has gone on. The new information was:

1.Some people have had trouble printing documents from the website, she could tell me how to access them. (I have already printed).

2. Be sure to print extra luggage tags, and place on even on carry on bags.( I've never done this before but suppose it is a good idea.)

3. Be sure Passport names are exactly as boarding pass names so there are no delays with TSA or Customs. (I already knew that too).

4. If driving to the port and parking, did I need directions? (No, I live in Florida and have sailed from there before, one might assume I knew how to get there.)

5. Most importantly, I had not purchased Vacation Protection and would I be interested in protecting my vacation investment?( No, I never purchase from Carnival and always buy from insuremytrip.com)

6. Boarding is from 130-330. (I just let this one pass, I get there when I get there.)

Has anyone else received a call like this? I just find it odd that after all these years they now want to call me personally to review my plans when they never have on the past 12 trips. I have an excellent PVP I deal with who takes care of us quite well. I'm figure this is either an attempt to get me to purchase trip insurance or damage control-a personal call rather than an email to loyal CCL patrons.

Can you tell me this because I am having problems printing them for the first time since we started cruising 2 years ago

Received the exact same call last Sept. before our B2B on the Triumph. Only time we have received such a call. I am sure it is a random thing. Just luck of the draw so to speak.

Enjoy your cruise.

Suspect the call was to sell insurance (after all that was "most importantly" - the other tips/questions were "wrapping" the package of selling the insurance - established rapport before the sell.

Yup.

But it is a good sales pitch.

With some web browsers (Firefox in paticular) you will get a link not found error. Use Internet Explorer and it works fine.

I had trouble when going through "to do list", but I found if I went into "Edit Online Check-in" and click on Print my documents it worked just fine.

I'm guessing they're tired of all the complaints from the morons who don't bother to read the emails or check the web site for the important information. And also, I guess, to stress the importance of trip insurance so that people can't say, "nobody ever told me that!" They're trying to minimize the backlash when problems occur. But for someone that already has a PVP, I would think that the PVP would go over all these things with you, not than mine ever has. I think it's a good thing.

On your browser, click TOOLS, OPTIONS, APPLICATIONS, scroll down to Portable Document format, click on the drop down menu at the right and choose Use Adobe Reader default

I think the issue lies with IE10 which a lot of Win7 computer updated to automatically. When you click on Print Documents the window comes up where you would be able to choose what you want to print, but it is like a blue color and you can't click on anything. IE9 works fine.

I received the same call from someone named Carol. Asked the exact same questions. This will be our 30 + Carnival cruise. I too wondered why now.

That's really interesting... My call was from Carol also! I just think it's an attempt at PR, damage control, etc. It was a nice touch, just unexpected at this point.

I had the same problem where the screen turned blue and couldn't click on anything-ended up having to print from my husbands work laptop. I am not sure how to fix it.

I had the same problem (screen turned blue and couldn't click on anything). I called Carnival Tech Support and she said "press the escape key on the keyboard when the screen turned blue" and sure enough the blue screen went away and I was able to print everything I needed. I have Windows 8 and IE 10. Hopes this helps.

I've gotten calls from a vacation planner before with several past cruises. The message was that she wanted to help me make the most of my cruise experience, but I never ended up getting in touch with her. Haven't gotten one for the past couple of cruises though. Maybe it's starting back up again.

I got the same call before my October cruise last year, so don't believe this is any kind of "damage control".

I believe it was to try and get us to purchase our trip insurance through Carnival. I just told her we always get our own insurance.....

She was very pleasant, but everything she was going over I already knew or had already completed (like documents/tags, etc).

We received the same type of call last month prior to our cruise. As stated all of the information that was asked or given we already knew. The customer service “want to insure you have a good cruise” is really about buying insurance, which we never purchase from Carnival.
