Day 4, Sat 3/23

Last night I had worried about over-sleeping so I retrieved my iPhone from the safe and I set the alarm. I shouldn't have worried. It was about 5 am. when the thrusters came on as to say, "HELLO, GOOD MORNING!"

Teresa arrived at 6:30 with our breakfast. (We had hung the card on the door, and I know we can order anything, even the Il Adagio menu, we decided just to have a quick morning snack.) I had cream of wheat, toast and coffee. Teresa had filled both of our small soft sided coolers with ice, as we heard Cartegena was hot and humid, so we wanted to take water, and keep it cold. She is a real treasure, that Teresa!!!

We met Monica and she led us off the ship. I think we were first off. We saw someone with a sign for "Jen", from our CC roll call, who had arranged our private tour with Lee Mile, Mr. Emerald. One of his helpers took mom and me to the van so she could wait in A/C. That was very thoughtful and the van wan very nice and comfortable. Soon the rest of the group arrived and off we went.

I had really anticipated Cartegena, as I am Catholic and it is a very religious city. My expectations were met and exceeded. There is a lot of history to be seen. We went to the fortress, Monastery and even walked into a Church as Mass was in session. It was right at the "sign of peace" and mom joined right in. We ended up at Mr. emerald's shop and I had a beer, very unlike me... but it was delicious. I think mom had a soda. We resisted the urge to buy, but others were making purchases.

We returned to the ship at 1 p.m. ready for lunch. A note, getting back early was nice, because it really hadn't been unbearably hot in town. Of course, being from Texas maybe it wan't so bad for us compared to others... haha. We got to Il Adagio and mom asked the server for a special request of avocado and crackers... she left to see and I was shaking my head and saying, no way. Well, I was dead wrong. Not only did our server arrive with a plate with a half of an avocado, sliced, it looked DELICIOUS. Gotta love the NCL suite life. I think mom had her avocado and crackers every day after that! I had my yummy salad again and mom and I split a burger. Mom had the chocolate brownie and I had berries and mango. Mom retired to the room for a nap and I went to the photo lab to get my photos transferred to a disc, as I have done on my previous cruises.

to be continued. (I am hungry just writing this, be back soon)

I go to the photo lab and they tell me "sorry... we, uh, don't do that anymore"... so I ask if they sell camera memory cards, and they say, "yeah, but not that one". (I have a Sony point-and-shoot with me on this trip.) Ok, guess I will go to "Plan B".

I head back to the room, took a little nap, got up, showered and dressed to make trivia. I had to leave as soon as the questions had been asked as I had to go to the Chef's Table for dinner.

Okay, if you are wondering if the Chef's Table is "worth it", I will say YES, YES, YES! YOU MUST DO IT.IT WAS AN ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE EVENING!!! Can you tell that I liked it? There was 9 courses and there was lots of wine being served. Afterwards we ere given a folder with pictures, (we had posed before dinner in the Atrium), and the menu. (I will find it and post the menu). Then we had an after dinner drink in the Java Cafe, as a way to wind down. Afterwards I went straight to the suite and had no problem falling asleep. (What a night!!!)

Day 5, Sunday 3/24

Woke up just as "Trouble with the Curve" was coming on TV. I like movies, I like baseball and this movie stars Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams, two fine actors. Well, I was not impressed. Haha, this is "Cruise Critic", not "Movie Critic", you might be thinking. But I call em as I see em. (And my mom is a semi-retired movie critic, so it's in the DNA, I guess.

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled program. Made it to IA for breakfast and I had a waffle with strawberries and I asked for 1 or 2 strips of bacon. They brought me 6!!! Mom came in, and so did Monica. We chatted and madeit known to Monica that everything was going nicely and we had no complaints whatsoever.

I asked the server if they could wrap up my bacon in the kitchen for me to have later at lunch. Maybe a BLT - with avocado, (like mother like daughter?)

On to trivia... we were humbled.... lost BADLY. We were gracious losers though. We had noticed int he Freestyle that there was Video Trivia at 10:45 so we made plans with Tony and Charlene to meet for that and maybe redeem ourselves.

Video Trivia was pictured of Landmarks. You could answer the name of the Landmark for 1/2 point and the location for another 1/2 point. We came in 2nd by only 1/2 a point. Very respectable.

We decided to make a visit to the casino. Here it is day 5 and I found a slot machine I have played before and love. But, as I would come to find, this one did not like me. So, it did not see me often. $20 the less, I left to go back to the suite. I opened the Absolut, Sweden's finest! I blended OJ, ice, raspberry crystal light and some Absolut together... YUM! A new drink. In honor of our favorite ship, I named it "The SUNburst"!

It was now tie for lunch and I made my way to IA for that BLT&A, which I paired with Chicken Veloute Soup. Chef Ricardo came by for a chat and I reiterated how much I had loved the Chef's Table dinner. I loved the chicken soup. It was so creamy and rich. And the sandwich was exactly what I wanted. Good lunch.

Later we played trivia again. Didn't win... close but no cigar. It is always fun though.

WE decided to have a simple dinner in the Sports Bar. We both had chicken fingers and fries and I watched some March Madness on the TV. But after a while I knew all I wanted to do was call it a day. Back to the suite and not long until I was sound asleep.

Up next: Day 6 and Aruba.

Hi Donna,

Are Lee Miles and Mr. Emerald one in the same? Or does Lee Miles stop at Mr. Emeralds? I'm trying to search the internet and I found "tours by Lee Miles" Would this be the tour company/guide you used?

Loving your review and can't wait until my next trip on the Sun:D

Yes, they are one and the same!

We enjoyed our tour. It was nice. Would recommend.

He lets you decide how many pax you want so you can decide if you want a full van or a little extra room.

I'm really enjoying your review. We have something in common. I also went to culinary school! I haven't done anything with my education though, unless you count cooking for my family. Our NCL cruise isn't until May 2014, but I really hope we can do the chef's table, and the galley tour. Thanks for this great review!

Ok, thanks a bunch. Would you happen to have the e-mail address for him? When I try the e-mail option I get a message on my computer regarding my default client, or something not being set up. Go figure:(

No, I'm not "still up" ( with copious amounts of alcohol ). I am what some people un affectionatly refer to as an early riser.

The truth of the matter is I am about to depart for the salt mine as Jai is already planning next years adventure and someone has to pay for it.

Have a great day

Hi Donna

I can't tell you the all the wonderful words of wisdom and insite that I have typed here only to see it vanish before my very eyes.

I hope I didn't put any undue pressure on you last night.

Dan

No, you didn't. It was my own fault... bad Donna. I will get back on it tonight.

Donna, I'm almost embarrassed to ask, but what kind of hair dryer is in 9076? Is it the kind that blows your hair all over the place, or have they replaced those with the pistol grip type? If it's the old-fashioned kind, I will gladly pack my own. :D

I saw one in the drawer but I never used it and neither did my mom. Got lucky with wash and go hair I guess. Sorry I couldn't help and please ask anything!!!

Thanks, Donna. You are lucky! I'll drag mine along, as I still remember how awful my hair looked on my first cruise on her.

If the hair dryer was in the drawer it was probably okay. Ours was a hose in the bathroom. Luckily I had read about those before we cruised and brought my own. :) We were in a balcony.

Thanks, wibeachbum. Our cabin's hose-hanging-on-the-wall dryer sounds like the same thing as yours in the bathroom. Awful! I think you're correct that one of those probably wouldn't fit in a drawer.

Donna, how is it being back in the real world? :(

Donna: You mentioned in one of your posts that you went on a "Cruise Critic Galley Tour". Do you know how that was arranged? I'm going on the Sun on May 6th and I would be interested in something like that and perhaps, some of the other people on our Roll Call would be too.
