Two real quick question for anyone who sailed the Splendor with the Grand Turk, HMC and Nassau schedule...What time did you depart from Nassau? Our schedule says 4 PM but when I look at the updated Fun Times they are saying 5:30 or 6:00???

Casino question...Can you use coins in the slot machines??

Thanks!!

just a few corrections, sorry

You are not able to order room service, via the interactive tv.:(

MDR menus are not always posted via the tv, :(

We were on the April 23 cruise, so ymmv;)

Okay - we have some conflicting information here! PortSideCruzan says that she did order room service via the TV. Perhaps some rooms/TVs on the ship are not equipped for this?

Anyone else want to weigh in on this?

Some things I still haven't found out ....

Trying to find out if the El Mojito is an actual wine bar. Do they have wines by the glass that they don't have at the other bars. This was the case on our last cruise on the Victory and it was nice to relax there with a glass of wine.

Are any of the bars on Deck 4 or 5 open during the day? We're on deck 6 and I'm wondering if we have to go up to the Lido to get a drink. We have an aft wrap and we'll be spending a lot of time on that balcony!

Can you get a day pass just for the Thalassotherapy pool - or do you have to get the whole day pass that includes the other facilities as well. I thought I had read that you could. Some posted that you could, but they said the information was 5 years old.

Again - thanks to everyone who has been answering questions!

This is the first unfamiliar ship I've been on in awhile. I've been on both the Victory and the Triumph - which are nearly the same. And the Legend and the Miracle - which are also laid out the same.

I was also on Voyager of the Seas ... but we won't talk about that here :p

as I mentioned, we were on the Splendor sailing April 23rd thru May 1st. Could only order room service via cabin phone;) believe me, we looked and looked on the cabin TV, no where was there an option. Anyone else that has been on her since/recently, want to weigh in?

Not sure when PortSideCruzan last sailed her:confused: maybe things change:confused:

Hi Kat, :)

I haven't sailed on the Splendor yet. In the past while I was doing Splendor

research I read in a review where someone ordered room service & was able

to view the MDR menu's & folio via the interactive tv.

They were probably mistaken, and the interactive features consist of

MDR menu and folio viewing, but not room service ordering.

:)

Ah-ha! We've only just ordered coffee and danish via the door hanger thingys. Menus and folio have been available on all the ships I've been on so far and they were all older than the Splendor, so I would think that option would be available.

Would have been convenient to order room service that way, but we can deal with the phone. We have an aft wrap and I thought it would be nice to have lunch out there one day. DH loves grilled cheese and they have it on the room service menu :) - I've heard the BLT and shrimp salad are good as well. And of course I want some of those cookies!

Cyber Kat,

Here's one more thing to add to your list of all things Splendor: for those people who want to bring their i-Pads or laptops there is wi-fi throughout the ship and even in the cabins.....You still need to pay for the use of the internet though ;)

I read somewhere that if you had 2 or more iphones, you could use apple messenger (or whatever it's called, I dont use iphone) to "text" back and forth with people in your group. Seems like it would work, being that you are on the same WiFi network. Unless Carnival somehow figured out how to block this. Just make sure you turn on airplane mode first then turn on WiFi only.

Were you able to use it in the cabin on the Splendor? When we were on the Miracle, I couldn't get a signal in our cabin. We used to go down to where the sushi cart was (Outside the Sports Bar and Frankie & Johnnies). They had nice cushy chairs and tables in that area and the internet cafe was right up the stairs. I could get a strong signal, so I'd grab a glass of wine and some sushi and annoy my friends at home with vacation pics :p

We're in an aft wrap on the Splendor so I figured I'd have to go hunting for a signal.

Internet is .75 a minute plus a $3.95 signup fees. Packages of minutes are available that help lower the per minute cost.

The best way to conserve your minutes with email, is to login, download any new mail then log off. Read your mail, write draft replies or new emails then log back on to the system and send your mail.

Also remember the clock keeps ticking unless you actively log off the system.

I think I paid like $60 for 120 minutes and that worked out fine. I got some extra minutes because I signed up the first night. I didn't send a whole lot of emails and I'm using gmail, so they don't download. The only email I sent was to our house/cat sitter to see if everything was okay. Hers were the only ones I opened.

I mostly posted/read on Facebook and I prepared my status offline. I have Photoshop on my laptop, so I reduced the size of the pictures I uploaded so they would load faster.

If you use Gmail and don't have a regular mail client, download Thunderbird (by the Firefox people), set up your gmail to use IMAP (google it) then set up thunderbird to use Gmail. Now you can work offline.

P.S. I had an aft cabin once on the Splendor and could get WiFi just fine, you shouldn't have a problem in your wrap.

Thanks but, I only use Gmail for online access. I have a bunch of other email addys that I use for mail I want to download. If I have something in Gmail I want to save, I forward it to one of the others.

Glad to hear that you were able to get a signal in the aft Splendor cabin - it will make it easier to annoy my friends :D

I have yet to take my first cruise on Splendor and last time I cruised I did not bring along any device. When I called Carnival they told me that the signal was available throughout the ship as well as in the cabins. :( I don't know if I should take them literally though. I expect some areas will have a weaker signal than others.

Was wondering about that. You answered my question before I even asked. Thanks! :D

They said that about the Miracle too, but when I went back to the internet cafe, the guy admitted that there are places on the ship that don't get a strong enough signal to do anything. I'm sure that there were some cabins that were better than others. There are hot spots all over the ship - depends on how close you are to one.

I just use it for a little fun and to keep in touch with the house/cat sitter, so it wasn't a problem. If you need to do something serious - like keeping up with a business, you might want to find a strong spot and go there.

Given that a ship is a natural Faraday Cage it is a wonder they can get WiFi to work at all.

I guess I'm the only one who will be taking a vacation from the internet & phone. The only time I will use my phone is when we arrive back in port to call the limo service to pick me up.

Of course I will be taking my kindle but only for reading not internet access.
