MissKIA Posted April 25, 2013 #51 Share Posted April 25, 2013 Was it like Walmart in that it had an endless variety of things to see and do? Was it priced affordably? In my opinion everything is what you make it. I'm only going on my second cruise but I hope to never get to a point in life where I don't enjoy a vacation of any kind. That's what I was kind of thinking. Doesn't Walmart pretty much have anything you could need or want? LOL Sorry you had a bad cruise. You didn't like the ship OR the ports. I guess you've out grown Carnival and the Caribbean after so many cruises. I can see why that might happen! Hopefully you can find something to better suit your needs next time. Havingfun2010 Posted April 25, 2013 #53 Share Posted April 25, 2013 Last two Carnival ships I was on, got progressly worse. I feel you pain. The cheaper you make a cruise, the worse it will get. The ships are nothing more than a casino, and bars. Entertainment has been reduced, and my prediction is that soon, they will change out the giant stages, to get more staterooms in. IF the space is not making money, they won't use it. I also don't understand why everyone says they feel sorry you didn't enjoy your cruise and that they never see the same items. I just believe, they haven't been on other ships, or not on Carnival when they were fun. Someday, I might go back, but no time soon.

cruise_girl2002 Posted April 25, 2013 #55 Share Posted April 25, 2013 I loved the valor....great ship! I just read a review from somebody on this same cruise and it was complete opposite of the OP review...life is what you make it. BTW why do some think rcl is so much better? I sailed them once..said I was never going to again...however, decided to give them one more try (since carnival was booked up the weekend I wanted to go in JAN). yep...still lousy...although food the second time on RCL was a tad better

I just looked at a seven day cruise on the pride the other day for $369. Why do you think there has been a constant sale since the triumph incident? Coincidence? Bookbug53 Posted April 25, 2013 #57 Share Posted April 25, 2013 I was very disappointed with my recent cruise On the Carnival Valor. It started with a 9:30pm lifeboat drill with screaming children and fainting ladies and it was down hill from there.. The cruise director obviously loved to hear his own voice as the announcements seemed endless and at odd hours. There were screaming children running up and down the hallways after midnight. I thought the pool area was more like a pit or arena. I miss the front facing lounges that are on most other cruise lines. In General I felt I was trapped in a Wal-Mart while on board. With 47 cruises under my belt, a Carnival Platinum cruiser and Carnival stock holder I regret to say that other than the convenience of the Carnival Fascination out of Jacksonville I never care to take another Carnival cruise. Dennis Jacksonville, Fl 532 days at sea 47 cruises 12 cruise lines T/P, T/A, Hawaii, Central & South America, New Zealand & South Pacific, Rio/ Amazon, Alaska Why was there a 9:30pm life boat drill? I would imagine after traveling all day and being forced into a drill at that hour there may have been some really tired kids. However, since you are a Platinum member on Carnival I would have to wonder why you kept cruising if you dislike them so much. I certainly would never let one bad experience turn me away from something I liked that much.
Haoie Posted April 25, 2013 #58 Share Posted April 25, 2013 Enough with the Wal-Mart comparisons. I'd love to have Wally World in this country and would probably be there every week if possible. I'd love to have Carnival leaving from NZ too, but that's another story.

Amen..would love to see your country...it has it's pros and cons like everything else....but in many places the demographic is not what people think and I have seen it in a metro area as well...when good or ok. Where it really helps a lot of folks in this country and especially smaller populated places is perscription meds and generic over the counter meds. swedish weave Posted April 25, 2013 #60 Share Posted April 25, 2013 I think it is funny to read about how some of you describe the people at Wal Mart and on Carnival ships. I bet they go home and laugh about the way you look, too !!! Both Wal Mart and Carnival are the biggest in the world and many try to disparage them, but they still appeal to the majority of the population. Another thing I find ironic is RCCL has the biggest cruise ship in the world, but nobody is jabbing at them for it !!!
OCruisers Posted April 25, 2013 #61 Share Posted April 25, 2013 Trapped in a Wal-Mart! Love the title of this one. :D Like it or not, the pax base is a big part of having enjoyable cruise. Sometimes, the pax base on Carnival and some other cruise lines can be better than other times. LuLu ~~~

Uh, have you ever read any thread on the Carnival board with a title regarding the Oasis twins? The Carnival loyalists (most who have never set foot on the Oasis/Allure) do more than take a jab at them. They put down a product they have very little knowledge of. They get all huffy puffy saying how they'll never sail on such a ship, with the crowds, the cost, how unsafe they must be, how crappy Royal is, how they are like an amusement park, how Guy's Burgers is such a step above anything served on Royal, how Carnival is SO much better, blah, blah, blah.... MegnJoe Posted April 26, 2013 #64 Share Posted April 26, 2013 I'm going on my first cruise in 2 weeks. On the Valor! I have low blood pressure and have fainted a few times from having to stand still too long. Hopefully I don't faint during muster. That would ruin my night, but I hope it wouldn't ruin anyone else's! bplazo Posted April 26, 2013 #66 Share Posted April 26, 2013 We just took our first Celebrity cruise and it was wonderfull. We may have only seen about 15 chidren at the most. However, I really cannot say anything bad about Carnival because we really enjoyed the Elation going out of New Orleans. However, we do try to travel during off peak times. suzk2275a Posted April 26, 2013 #67 Share Posted April 26, 2013 We were on Valor in Febuary. We were happy - had a great cruise. We did not have any issues with "screaming kids". There was an adult only pool - very nice.
Rockee4055 Posted April 26, 2013 #68 Share Posted April 26, 2013 If I calculated that right that's a 0.02 failure rate. I will take that over anything. I am sorry you had a not so pleasurable cruise but there is nothing you can do about 9:30 muster and fainting ladies. If I were a 2 yr old and had to do that at 9:30 I would be a little cranky too. As far as kids running up and down the halls, I've already had to stop by calling to guests services and it was PROMTPLY stopped by security. I have to say that with all your cruises with carnival and being a stock holder you certainly found something worth credibility with CCL. Stick with it and don;t let one bad cruise ruin you from an awesome time at a great price. You're bound to run out of good luck on other lines as well. Princess, before CCL owned them was not so desirable for us but it didn't ruin us as we would try them again. Good luck with your future cruises. I find it odd that you think Walmart and/or Carnival get disparaged just because they are the 'biggest in the world' and that the Oasis Class is deserving of the same for that reason. I also find it odd that RCI has been introduced into this discussion when it began as one cruisers beef with one Carnival cruise. The OP never mentioned RCI. I just believe, they haven't been on other ships, or not on Carnival when they were fun. Someday, I might go back, but no time soon. Some people are extremely sensitive about things they like. Yes, I had a not so desirable cruise as well. I had a cabin steward who didn't show up for 3 days. Even after I called he still did not show up. I did mention it to the guest services and they got back to me in about 30 minutes. The gentleman was sick, stomach virus and they would not let him roam the ship. Was it true, probably but I would rather him not be in our cabin in that condition. Nobody was serviced those 3 days in our cabins. Did it ruin our vacation? No. Did we wish our cabins were taken care of? yes. When the cabin steward came back on duty he was wearing a mask just to be sure but was released from quarantine in his cabin. He apologized profusely. He made it up to us for that last 3 days of the cruise. he got an extra tip from us because you could tell he didn't feel energetic but he still tried to do his job. Did I get a meal with a hair in it one time on the cruise? Yes. Did it disgust me? Yes. Did I jump off the ship on the next port? No. Has this ever happened in a restaurant? Yes. I think a lot of ppl complain in a very mean way. Not saying this guy did that or anyone else for that matter. Reason with them, tell them it's unacceptable and let them know what you want...being reasonable about it. I mean, don't go asking for a free cruise because the free samples in the bathroom didn't have the smell you wanted...........done rambling. lcgvol Posted April 26, 2013 #71 Share Posted April 26, 2013 Sorry you had such a bad experience on this one. We were on the Valor last month right in the middle of Spring Break and I was shocked at how FEW kids were on board. They even let my 14 yr old daughter move up to the next age group in Camp Carnival, which doesn't happen often. I had read on the forums that this particular cruise out of Puerto Rico could have some boisterous people on board. We did not notice that at all but did notice some rudeness we hadn't seen before. All in all, I'd have to say we had more fun on this ship and this cruise than any we've ever been on(which is just 5). I'd do it again if it didn't require flying there to do it.
