Lvntrvl Posted April 27, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2013 We are a family of five on the Ocean Princess in early August 2013. The ship docks at Rosyth and we are planning to spend the first day in Edinburgh utilizing the HOHO, then attend the 10:30 showing of the TATOO that evening. The ship does not leave until 1800 the next day. Would you recommend that we spend the second day in Edinburg or St. Andrews. If St. Andrews is your recommendation, what is the best way for a party of five to get there?
Globaliser Posted April 27, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2013 Would you recommend that we spend the second day in Edinburg or St. Andrews. If you have even the slightest interest in the stuff that's in the Fringe, stay in Edinburgh and fill your boots. St Andrews will still be there next time, but next time you may not be visiting during the Fringe. It is a magical time in Edinburgh for cultural junkies. If you haven't already found it, http://www.edfringe.com is the official Fringe website.
Cotswold Eagle Posted April 28, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 28, 2013 I agree with m'learned friend. The Fringe and the delights of St. Andrews are so different it is impossible for us to recommend which one is best for you. But if you are interested in the performing arts, what a great opportunity to have a day full of many events, without the hassle of getting to the Festival or finding somewhere to stay in Edinburgh :)

Rare uktog Posted April 28, 2013 #6 Share Posted April 28, 2013 Logistically, Edinburgh is much easier to do with a direct bus or train. St Andrews will involve you in a less regular train to Leuchars and then a taxi to St Andrews and back
Alohaaloha Posted April 28, 2013 #7 Share Posted April 28, 2013 Edinburgh vote here too. You are going at the best time, and it is a beautiful city steeped in history too. So, with your bonus of the Edinburgh Tattoo and the Fringe festival you will have a wonderful experience.
RJHNorthyorks Posted April 28, 2013 #8 Share Posted April 28, 2013 We had a great time at the Edinburgh fringe. The atmosphere in the city is fantastic and there is an amazing range of activities free and paid. Someone else has posted the fringe website so you will be able to see what's on and pre-book shows if you wish.
