cormike1 Posted May 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2013 If we have a pickup ordered for 9:30a.m. will that be enough time to go through customs if we dock by 8:00a.m. that morning? Do you think a 11:50a.m. flight out of LaGuardia will be okay? Thanks for your answers.
Rare shof515 Posted May 12, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2013 it might be easier if you do self debark, you will have to carry/wheel all your luggage yourself

bphman Posted May 12, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 12, 2013 It depends on the day of the week. During the week is tough at the tail end of rush hour. You will be going against traffic but, even on a weekend, it can be very unpredictable. The problem is that you have to go all the way across town and that can be a bear. And if multiple ships are in port, traffic in and out can be heavy. I would say give yourself at least another hour and self-debark.
jasperscruise Posted May 12, 2013 #5 Share Posted May 12, 2013 1150 flight out of NY is going to be really close. I would not book any flight before 2pm. Plus if there is another ship or even a delay with getting off in port it will take longer to get though customs.
wmowan8485 Posted May 12, 2013 #6 Share Posted May 12, 2013 It could be close but doable! Here are a few tips; 1. let carnival know in advance that you have an early flight. They will help ensure that you get off the ship in time. 2. Use self assist if possible, that way you won't have to wait for your bags. 3. When entering the cruise terminal use a porter to take your bags. For a tip they can expedite you through customs. Good Luck!! :D
MrPete Posted May 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted May 12, 2013 First off, you'll dock a LOT earlier than 8:00. It's usually closer to 6. We are usually off by 7:30 using VIP self debark. We walked past those that were first in the normal line who said they queued at 6 just to get off first.
jpurdy Posted May 12, 2013 #8 Share Posted May 12, 2013 Agreed with self debark. You will be off much earlier and let the staff know you have early flight. Shouldn't be a problem. You are off pretty early at this port in our experience.
espin Posted May 12, 2013 #9 Share Posted May 12, 2013 Like others said the traffic can be insane during the week but customs in NY is rather fast compared to Florida ports. We docked early , so we were off and in the car by 915am and we didn't self assist.
PAPERBKWRITER Posted May 12, 2013 #10 Share Posted May 12, 2013 Did the same thing last Nov with regular disembarkation (#1 tickets) and were at LGA by 10 AM. We didn't have an early flight but it just happened that way and that was when Sandy impacted the city so with little public transportation, more cars were on the streets. That was a weekday. VickiD59 Posted May 12, 2013 #11 Share Posted May 12, 2013 As mentioned above, it will depend on the day of the week you'll be coming back. Last cruise we came back into NY on a Monday morning - that and the fact that there was an extra strong current on the Hudson that day, and as the captain was trying to line-up vertically with the pier slip, the current was pushing the ship (Miracle) into the pier faster than he could get the aft-end around. It took 2 tugs (and a third on its way) to get between the pier and the ship and push the back end out so that a second (and third) attempt could be made. We had a birds-eye view from out balcony; it was very exciting to watch, but had we been needing to catch a flight I'd have been nervous. cormike1 Posted May 12, 2013 Author #12 Share Posted May 12, 2013 Thanks everyone for your quick replies. I think we will self disembark. The next flight would be 3:30pm so we really hope we can make the 11:50am. Great stuff on what to do to go faster that we will definitely think about doing. Thanks again.
