Houston?

When cruising out of Houston, which airport should we fly into? Also, is there a hotel that is right by the cruise port?

When cruising out of Houston you have your choice of flying into Houston Hobby (HOU) or George Bush Intercontinental (IAH). Hobby is closer, Southwest uses Hobby as their Houston hub. Delta and American also service HOU. You will find more airlines and more nonstops into IAH.

No immediate hotels at the Port of Houston Bayport Cruise Terminal.

There are plenty nearby in the NASA/Clear Lake area.

Hobby airport all the way

There are two hotels I know about close to the terminal.

The treemont - it's on the strand across the street from the terminal

And Harbour house - its on the water and you can see ships come and go.

If you are staying for one night and only one night these are pretty good to stay.

I vote for harbor house. Btw

I live in the area. The hardest thing you will have to deal with is transportation. Public transit severely sucks here.

Thx teddy

Ask me as much as you want.

The food on the strand is ok. What's good is overpriced here IMO. It's not bad food, but it's not worth the cost.

Harbor House and Tremont are next to terminal!

Both are excellent!

Don't eat on Strand!

Eat on port by terminals and on postoffice street!

If you stay in one of those hotels ,

you can walk to terminals and to many restaurants other than Strand!!

And ones that are award winning restaurants!

Whats your pleasure!

I believe the OP is cruising out of Bayport, not Galveston.

You need to be sure what port you are talking about. Bayport or Galveston. They are not the same.

Airport depends on which airline you are flying. If it is United for example, you are going to IAH (Intercontinental or the big airport). Southwest then HOU (Hobby)is your destination.

OP stated they are cruising out of Houston!! Given that, it would be Hobby and Kemah/Clear Lake would be the closest for hotels.

Thank you. Can we just get a cab from the airport to the hotel? Should I have a car service? I'm used to cruising out of Florida. Thanks for the help!!

There's a Comfort Suites right near the cruise terminal that was built about the same time. It's probably less than a mile away. Not much else in the immediate area. There is a large gas station/convenience store right there as well, but that's about it. I noticed a lot of the land around there is for sale so I wouldn't be surprised to see another motel or two popping up in the area.

Three miles north is the town of Laporte. I was there just last week and counted about half a dozen motels either right off, or close to, Hwy 146 which runs to Port Road (where you turn off the highway to go to the terminal). Some of them looked new, and the older ones looked well kept.

About the same distance south is the Kemah/Seabrook area with a few nice hotels and motels. You're also near the Kemah Boardwalk which is a large entertainment complex with shops, restaurants, and carnival rides.
