Burial at Sea Question

Recommended Posts

This was a thread from earlier this year that was just bumped. The OP has already sailed so the burial has most likely already happened.

I usually notice the dates too. I got wrapped up in it. Thanks

I removed my suggestion.

I just want to make a suggestion that my sister did with her DH. Keep some of his ashes to be mixed with yours when your time comes. It was wonderful when my sister also passed and we knew her ashes were mixed with her greatest love in her life. Very touching.

Wow. What a nice gesture!

We scattered most of my father's ashes off the Sovereign years ago. RCI was more than generous with their time and attention. We have kept some of dad's ashes to go with mom... when the time comes. The purser and the staff Captain were more than helpful and kind. We arranged a time and it happened to be just after BINGO. Since dad always said he'd go to BINGO 'over his dead body' we took his ashes to Bingo... set the box right there under our cards. We were sure he was laughing. Our family has a good sense of humor. We did have a specific spot in the Ocean (more like an area)... and the timing worked well for us. The officer and staff member met us and escorted us to the crew area. We were able to do as little or as much as we wanted. We were not rushed and had no audience. It was perfect, and we received a letter of condolence from the Captain.

We did keep the ashes in our cabin until the scattering.

I am so sorry for your loss... I hope that you are able to find some peace and joy on your cruise.

I'm sorry for your loss.

This is what I told my DH I want done when my days are over. Don't want to be put in the ground and certainly don't want any one to have me on the mantle ...I want to be cremated and put to rest at sea .

What a beautiful way to be put to rest!!

Hi everyone,

I have a question that stems from this thread despite the OP having already sailed. We are sailing on Celebrity in a couple of weeks and arranged a burial at sea service (it's done through the shared Royal Caribbean Emergency Travel Team for Azamara, RCI, and Celebrity.

We purchased a biodegradable urn for the service however in my error, I didn't notice on the service approval letter provided by RCI that we need the urn's biodegradable status to be certified. Has anyone dealt with this and know of what urns would qualify in this case? We are starting to panic a bit with the time frame winding down to find a resolution and it was the entire reason for the cruise in the first place....

We purchased this urn: http://www.perfectmemorials.com/dark-blue-ecourn-biodegradable-cremation-urn-large-p-17256.html and I've checked with the company to see if they offer any certification, they kinda dismissed me as being more or less overly paranoid and assured me that they've had customers do the same in the past without an issue. I mean, the urn certainly SEEMS biodegradable and is flimsy at best with it's paper-like composition from tree bark but I am fearful of risking it...

Thoughts? Tips from anyone who has done this? It is much much appreciated!
