usha Posted May 12, 2004 #28 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Cruising with marti, I would say that the average age of your fellow passengers is apt to be older on the longer cruises. We were on a 15 night transcanal several years ago where the average age was 72. It was also one of the best cruises we've ever taken.

usha Posted May 12, 2004 #32 Share Posted May 12, 2004 No, I'm not that old, Rosie, but the average cruiser on that particular cruise was 72 according to the cruise director. 72 is a few years away for me...
bsails Posted May 12, 2004 #33 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Yep, we'll be two of the oldsters. I'm 64 and DH is 77. We don't stay up late, enjoy the early shows (when we go), don't dance at all, and hit the sack early. But we're raring to go the next morning, ready to explore the next day's port. We love the excursions and are active all day, but come evening, we're content to leave the evening to the younger crowd. Barb Pacific Coast/Alaska 14-day cruise in only. . . frequenttraveler Posted May 12, 2004 #38 Share Posted May 12, 2004 I see alot of messages here about "are there alot of old people on board". Did it ever occur to anyone that maybe the "old" people feel the same way about the "young" people who are rude, but are just to nice to say anything. Don't forget that every day you are also getting older! What a shame.
excitedofharpenden Posted May 12, 2004 #39 Share Posted May 12, 2004 frequenttraveller I for one love aquanting myself with the older generation. Providing they are polite. I like the younger generation too. Providing they are polite. I like people my age as well. Providing they are polite. Bruin Steve Posted May 12, 2004 #40 Share Posted May 12, 2004 I was on it...It was like a Twilight Zone episode... August 4, 2001, the Crown Princess, sailing out of Copenhagen on a 10-night Baltic... Just to give you an idea, when they played that "Newlywed Game" thing, even the newlywed couple were octagenarians... We took our kids with us...they managed to find EVERY other kid on the ship...there were less than 20 on board...and this was a sailing during a school vacation month!! But Princess really knew who their constituency was...they even aimed the entertainment at the octagenarian set...The comedian had to be in his 90s...and his jokes were older...the Alzheimers would kick in and he'd forget the punchlines...luckily, everyone in the audience had heard them all before and would help out...The best entertainment on board was a "Xylophonist"...Yeah, that's right... Every shore excursion moved slowly as it was hard maneuvering all the "walkers" up the stairs... Talk about old... lssteele Posted May 12, 2004 #43 Share Posted May 12, 2004 The two cruises that come to mind the quickest (and that's taken about 20 minutes to think about)having an older generation were to Scandinavia?Russia..we became friends with a man who had won a silver medal in the 1936 Olympics...I believe he lost to a German. Wonderful man to sit down and talk to...and the other was the Panama Canal repositioning cruise. There was a death due to a heart attack on the cruise and that night I was visiting with a man around 80 yrs. and his comment was "Well, what do you expect when the average age on this cruise is 72." And I'm thinking that's the "pot" calling the "kettle" black! We love cruising with people have "ben there done that" with life experiences and can now sit back and enjoy cruising. Longboysfan Posted May 13, 2004 #48 Share Posted May 13, 2004 As someone has said above - the longer the cruise the older the group. But.... Holland America has the oldest clientele afloat. kitty9 Posted May 13, 2004 #49 Share Posted May 13, 2004 By far, any world cruise on any line. I've been on 4 world cruises and the average age is over 70. For individual cruises I would say Seabourn and Silversea during the winter months followed closely by Crystal. I've not been on a Crystal cruise that didn't have an average age lower than 65, and I've now been on 13 of them. Darcie
I Need A Vacation! Posted May 13, 2004 #50 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Well it will be Zenith out of Jacksonville this November. Older, hey I do my own shore excursions, snorkelling, and eating, etc. And those who suggested go with the grey hair, how about us with no hair. Longest cruises have older folks because they have more seniority and therefore holiday time. Besides it keeps the rug rats from squeezing up between your toes in the pool.
