E cigarette

Recommended Posts

I enjoy e-cigs. I,m not sure about the rules for e -cigs but I follow the rules for regular smokers as I dont wish and wouldnt tolerate someone in my face for enjoying in some other area. Doing this is not much of a hassle. As for the room, just take a walk to an outside deck and consider the walk part of getting healthier. :)

I've been using the V2 e-cig for almost a year now and when we cruised the last time I asked the same question. I was told even tho there is no smoke, only water vapor, it's still the same rules as smoking. It's that way in airports (and in the plane ... was cautioned not to smoke in the bathroom as the alarm may go off!) and most public places still, despite the makers of the e-cigs' claims. Makes no sense to me except for the fact that it's still somewhat new and people freak when they see the vapor and the employees have to deal with any complaints it might bring. I get that. So, I went to where you could smoke on the main ship. We had a balcony, so I used it there and sometimes also in the cabin .... it doesn't smell, it's not tobacco smoke and there is no residue or anything left from it. It's not a big deal really. I was use to going to the smoker's area anyway. However, after not being around 'smokers' it sure was different .... I pick up the odor I never noticed before and since I use the flavored cartridges all (and it's just a quick and then gone, faint smell) the vapor smells like vanilla or coffee! :)

Most people seem to be very easy about the e-cigs as they really don't smell at all.

On Oasis, I had no problem "smoking" them in Central Park, in the Viking Crown Lounge or in the Champagne Bar.

At Giovannis (table outside) the waiter came running, stopped, looked at me, looked again and asked: "This is an e-cig, right?" I said yes and he told me: "No problem with those here!"

I think you can use them in the cabin. Some airlines even allow them during flights, so what. ;)

Yeah my dh wants the ecig to save money and to have me not smell of cigs anymore. I don't smoke and don't jump on people for smoking. He just does not want the smoke in his lungs anymore. Thank you for your info

I used mine everywhere (I use Volt products by Smokeless Image). In the room, in the casino, strolling the Promenade, by the pool, etc. Mine are blue with a purple end, or pink with a white end -- nobody is ever going to mistake it for the real thing. I didn't go hang out with smokers because I am not one -- I quit to avoid them myself!

It produces nothing to offend or harm anyone nearby. If other people are uninformed and therefore fearful, that's not my problem. I'm not obnoxious about it - I don't blow smoke rings in the middle of the MDR, etc.

Just use some common sense and everything will be fine. The security getting on ship knew what they were and was fine with it. Nobody once fake-coughed. Only comment was to ask how I liked it and where they could get one.

Edit: my favors were Pina Colada and Hazelnut :-)

The policy used to specifically state no eCigs. It looks like that has been removed.

I'd say smoke em. They're not harmful, in terms of second hand smoke, to others. If somebody does say something, just show them what it is.

Have a great cruise.

This site has a lot of info and a user forum.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com

It is where I learned that the brands readily available at gas stations or quick-marts aren't usually the best choice. Maybe OK to try just to see what it's about, but trust me when I say there are way better products out there (I did a lot of trial and error before settling down, been using for 3 yrs now). So if he doesn't like the blu, then try something else.

The only thing I can add is that DW and I have been using Joye eGo's for the past two years without any problems. We switched about 3 years ago and started with the blu. While it worked ok, it looked so much like a real cigarette that we were constantly challenged by other pax and crew. Once we switched to a PV that doesn't look at all like a cigarette, no more hassles.:)

I don't want to start a CC smoking debate, but our cruise documents state that the smoking policy also applies to e-cigarettes. It is the PDF that they send before a cruise - I am not sure how to copy and paste part of it. I have no idea if it is enforced or not.

We were sitting behind someone "smoking" an e-cig at a basketball game, and my husband (who has asthma) had to leave and stand at the exit. There was no smoke, but the cotton candy smell was very strong and irritating to him. Not meaning to start a fight - he has the same reaction to someone wearing too much perfume. But just because they don't have smoke doesn't mean that won't be irritating to someone else who is sensitive. The guy in front of us wasn't breaking any rules and we of course didn't say anything to him, but it did irritate my husband's lungs.

Again, without wanting to start a fight, I read this as somebody was smoking an eCig near your husband, but it was the cotton candy that caused his irritation.

:D I meant the cotton candy smell of the e-cig. I have no idea what the actual flavor/scent was, but the vapor smelled very sweet like cotton candy. My husband is not bothered by the smell of actual cotton candy, although it is by far his least favorite treat to give the kids. ;) In our case, we were in close proximity for an extended period of time, and being located a row above the "smoker" meant we received the brunt of anything he exhaled. I doubt my husband would care if someone in the cabin next to us used an e-cig, but it would affect him if someone at our table in the MDR used one (just as an example). It was the proximity and concentration that caused the problem for him.

Right, although it seems like it would be hard for someone who is using e-cigs as a way to quit smoking to be restricted to areas with smokers. Not being a smoker, I don't know if that is true or not. I was just responding to the OP's question about being able to use them places that cigarettes are not allowed. The basketball game was our first experience with an e-cig, and had we not been directly behind the guy, we probably wouldn't have even noticed.

Does anyone know the rules for e cigarettes since they don't produce smoke are they allowed in the cabin? Only asking because my husband is switching :o

i have never understood what these darn things are- could someone tell me? I used to be a real cigarette smoker but have been quit now for 16 years. What do these e cigarettes do? Do they have real nicotine in them and if not, what is the purpose of them?

They deliver a small amount of nicotine in a mixture of glycerin and water. Other than optional flavorings (most of which come from LorAnn or a similar food flavorings supplier), that's all that's in the vapor.
