Changed my mind (want to move from a OV to a french door inside)

Hey

We booked our 12 day cruise on the Legend back in April when prices were super cheap 'sale of the year'. I needed to have sunlight so we booked a OV cabin at the time balconies were £350 more expensive which was crazy

While on here a lot of people have been talking about these French door cabins between lifeboats and they look amazing and a better deal than our room. I checked online and our ship has 3 of these cabins left. I am also concerned as I have been reading the threads about OV cabins being way too warm.

We paid in full a while ago as we sail in 2 months and and interior french door cabin is £60 cheaper than our original choice.

Can you downgrade and get the remiander in OBC or is that a no no?

A friend of mine also suggested to wait as our ship is only 60% full as they might upgrade me to a balcony anyway.

Anyone had any experience of this? If I had realised about these magical french door cabins I would have booked them earlier....ah well. :)

I dont believe you can downgrade after final payment without penalty. Usually upgrading is not an issue, but to downgrade to a less expensive cabin is usually not permitted. Im not sure what the penalty would be, but it may even be more than you would be "saving". Sorry I cant be more helpful though, I dont have personal experience in this area. If anything you can call Carnival and ask. But Id like to note though, depending on the location of the french door cabin, you likely will have more Natural light in your current OV cabin. I know with the Frech doors, unless its in between a lifeboat, the entire view is blocked.

Our experience has been that if you are lucky enough to get an upgrade it would likely NOT be to a balcony.....probably just to a better cabin within your category. I would try to get a French door cabin and take a OBC if you could. We like the fresh air and the savings!! We have had a French door cabin a couple of times and have one booked for Sept. Alaska cruise. With the extra we have to spend on flights it keeps our overall costs reasonable. Good luck. We have never experienced a overly warm OV cabin though. Have I said enough to confuse you? ;)

Thanks for the advice guys :)

We have checked our sailing and there are 3-4 of the inbetween lifeboat rooms left. We would not even consider a move if we were just looking at a lifeboat.

hindsight is a great thing, had I have been on these forums before my booking I would have booked a OV in between lifeboats for sure.

I have no idea weather you can do it, but, I love French Door cabins. We had no problem with the room being warm, and we could see a bit of the ocean, and feel the breeze.

I mainly liked it because its on deck 4. Only 1 or 2 decks down to most of the entertainment, dining, casino. Very nice. Enjoy, which ever you do, I adore the Legend! My all time favorite ship.

if you have a set cabin number the chances of the cruiselines upgrading you to a balcony just became zero chances watch prices because if the balconies become cheap ypu could upgrade- for a fee of course

We love the french door cabins, and its an alternative over the OV, especially if the price is cheaper. You're able to get fresh air, and if you get a cabin between the lifeboats, you can still see out. On our cruise last may we had 5- 4k french door cabins, and severla weeks before cruising the prices dropped, and we were all able to upgrade to balconies for $20.00 each.

Hi

I "downgraded" in April BUT I spoke with a supervisor and said I wanted the cabin. They said no I said just change the cabin number don't have to give me the OBC and it got worked out. So if they do it and then you want to change again it could be a problem because you will be matching to the fare that was on the cabin when you changed not what you paid.

Try for a supervisor and see you may be able to if you tell them you will just swap even.

The 4K cabins are the best buy on the entire ship IMO. I used to book 'em all the time when they were the SAME price as a 4A cabin. Carnival found out how much we enjoyed these cabins, and raised the price a bit, but they're still the best bargain on the entire ship. :D

You haven't said what rate you booked at. Was it ES? They do not allow any downgrades. However, if it was another rate, they might let you.

Why don't you check with Carnival or your TA, and get a real answer instead of a lot of guesses from people that don't work for Carnival.

We are booked early saver for our September cruise.....We had a spa balcony on the spa deck....when I booked on that floor I did not realize that those balcony did not have full covers....I have two kids and they are pretty fair skinned so I knew this would not be a good choice for us and I contacted customer service....and explained to the situation and they got a supervisor on the line to get the approval and all was fine....so they moved us to deck 11 which is still a spa balcony but one floor lower so it was cheaper by like 40 bucks total...which they just took off our total fare as we haven't made our final payment yet....when I first started the conversation I was told they don't allow downgrades on a normal basis but I guess they took into account that we are booked for a b2b for a total of 14 days so what was really 40 bucks? but who knows? maybe cause I was nice?

We were lucky enough to discover these rooms on Cruise Critic, prior to our final payment and also switched to these rooms on our upcoming Baltic cruise. From what I've read, it is worth switching, even if you don't get the discount. The fresh air in addition to light makes it a better deal than just a window IMHO.

I find it funny that Carnival thinks this is a downgrade from an ocean view, in my mind its the other way around. I'm booked in one on the Pride & almost "upgraded" to an ocean view because it was $10 cheaper, but the good folks here helped me come to my senses.

Are there french door cabins on all Carnival cruises? We're on the Breeze. We currently have a two bathroom OV for Oct 6, but they might be worth looking into..

I believe these are only on Spirit class ships.

Velvet, which sailing are you booked for? Perhaps you will be on our cruise.

Ah, I am on the cruise after you (August 8th). How full is your ship btw? Ours is only 60% full.

I tried to ring Carnival but I am not sure whether because its the weekend/I am calling from the UK I couldnt get through.

I am kind of all for downgrading now with or without OBC. Just got to make sure I pick the right number cabin. :)

Unless you are a TA how would you guess how full the ship is since that's confidential info. There is a site that shows how many CATEGORIES are full .. and some people mistake that for how full the ship is. Its how many categories have not sold out not to be confused with how full a ship is.

Carnival would never disclose how full a ship is due to it would make people have a guess at future earnings and would never happen. No site has this information.

Got the Information from a UK travel agent. Her company are one of (or possibly the only) pusher for Carnival cruises over here. Its not my line of work so I would not hazard a guess where she got her information from.

Obviously I have been observing the cabins I would like on Carnivals actual site.

OK a TA as I said could guess by counting the cabins they can see are not booked, even though they dont see all the cabins and gtys and stuff like that not yet assigned.

Have you been able to change cabins yet? I want a 4K myself. I too am booked on Miracle, a spirit class ship thru a UK TA.

Just managed to contact them and unfortunately I cant downgrade at all, not even if it stays at the same price (not sure if I can pay a penalty fee and downgrade who knows). I asked if this would be possible as the sail date gets closer but she said it probably wouldn't be the case.

The reason is because my final pay date was 2 weeks ago and as I am paid up certain changes cannot be made.

Really bummed about it tbh :( and IMO as a company if a customer wanted to swap their limo for a fiesta for the same price I would let them but :(
