Rare dna1990 Posted June 11, 2013 #26 Share Posted June 11, 2013 Because of the upgrades to the fire suppression system, the backup generator system and the electrical switchboard system the Triumph got in Freeport, she is the safest ship in Carnival's fleet now. On paper and only in certain categories. You can't discount the many design changes between 1991 and today that other ships have. Safe? Sure. Safer? Sure. Safest, just because she has more indicator lights on a panel...nah. Still comes down to crew and overall preparedness.

The only thing that would make her safer is the upgrades to the fire suppression system, and MANY ships have the water mist, or Hi-Fog system installed. Also, the relocation of the power cables from one engine room to prevent shorting out both engine rooms with a fire in only one, is pretty standard on lots of ships on several lines. The backup generator does not make the ship safer, it makes it less liable to bad PR by keeping "essential" hotel functions powered up.
Tampa cruiser1963 Posted June 11, 2013 #28 Share Posted June 11, 2013 On paper and only in certain categories. You can't discount the many design changes between 1991 and today that other ships have. Safe? Sure. Safer? Sure. Safest, just because she has more indicator lights on a panel...nah. Still comes down to crew and overall preparedness. The two engine rooms which are independent from one another are connected to a common electrical switchboard. When the fire took out the one engine room, it shorted out the switchboard bring down the other engine room. That was fixed for better redundancy. There was only one backup generator and it was not configured to run hotel operations (toilets, galley etc.) There are two now, and the hotel systems are now included in the automatic backup system. The fire suppression system is now 2013 technology. All of Carnivals ships will get this (at a cost of a half billion Dollars). The Triumph is the first, and is therefore the safest ship in Carnival's fleet.

And you know for a fact that ships in Carnival's fleet that were built after the Triumph do not have these "upgrades", besides the backup generator, which is a totally new concept. Sorry, but things like fire suppression systems are not like your I-phone or computer that upgrade every year. The fire suppression systems like water mist have been around since the early 2000's. Rudyard Posted June 11, 2013 #30 Share Posted June 11, 2013 Folks, get a grip. The facepalm was in response to the subject of the thread, not the fact that Triumph might be listing ;)

Keel Haul Posted June 12, 2013 #38 Share Posted June 12, 2013 Maybe you should get your eyes checked.;) Doesn't appear to be listing at all.I concur, its a vertical axis yaw caused by a whale farting 10 metres below the beam causing the red bags to shift. EZ4 Posted June 12, 2013 #44 Share Posted June 12, 2013 Even if it's listing, at least it's not having propulsion problems, like Sunshine, already.

On a positive note, the Triumph made the trip from Freeport to Galveston without any apparent problems. Thumbs up to Carnival...
