gkbiiii Posted March 22, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 22, 2014 Any news on the Zenith, it has some great pricing out of Santo Domingo?
Cybergoth Posted April 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2014 My TA has really good pricing for the Horizon in 2015, Southern Caribbean 7 night itinerary. It sails from the DR or St. Maarten. It's strange but it leaves Santo Domingo DR on a Saturday and stops in St. Maarten on Monday but boarding at St. M is much cheaper an both are 7 nights (Sat to Sat vs. Mon to Mon). I'm tempted but the reviews in the member reviews section are mixed. Anyone here have any experiences with CDF?
Rare Stockjock Posted April 26, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 26, 2014 I don't have experience with CDF, but I've booked it. Seems like a good value and visits some interesting islands. Oh, and the price includes alcohol! :-) I do understand that there will be limitations. Most of the passengers will not speak English. I suspect that many crew members, but not all, will. Some of the islands visited, such as Martinique, don't have a lot of English speakers on the island either. Also, it's an older ship. Seems like an interesting cruise, although obviously it's not everyone's cup of tea.
mapsmith Posted April 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 27, 2014 Saw yesterday that they have a repositioning cruise in April of 2015. From either Santo Domingo or Isla Margarita to Barcelona. Isla Margarita is under $600 for 16 days in an inside. From Santo Domingo for 14 days is about $1000. Anyone want to make a group booking of North Americans?????? Many of the cruises around Jan/Feb 2015 out of St. Maarten are just over $200 for an inside and just over $300 for OV for 7 days w/booze. Even a balcony is under $500. Port and tax are higher than normal. Visits a lot of interesting islands.

Rare Stockjock Posted April 29, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 29, 2014 That's very true. I was able to use AAdvantage miles (American Airlines) to buy 2 tickets. They were 37,500 miles per person with about $75pp in taxes and such. Decent flights from San Diego with about a 2.5 or 3 hour layover in Miami and then direct to St. Maarten. But yes, the point is well taken.

But yes, the point is well taken. Checked that last year. Unfortunately, AA does not allow stopovers. My in-laws are in South Florida, and we have to stop in if in the area. Miami is close enough. Although checking rates through the canoe. AA has 604 rt arriving in SXM at 9PM connecting through PHX and CLT. (going from PHX to SXM costs 723???) So it means a night (and the next day)SXM before the cruise. Probably will consider more as the year goes on.
Rare Stockjock Posted April 29, 2014 #10 Share Posted April 29, 2014 I'm actually arriving the day of the cruise. It's a red eye flight that gets into SXM around 1:30 pm or so. I think we'll be fine so long as nothing is cancelled. Doing a couple of days in St. Maarten on the back end of the cruise.

The 14 day transatlantic departing Santo Domingo to Barcelona on April 11th 2015 is now only $119 plus taxes for an inside cabin, and not much more for an outside. And it still includes all the drinks, though after this cruise it seems they will start charging $20 a day or so for it. I booked it today, $428 inc taxes for a solo inside.
