Vancouver Cruise Port to the Airport

Recommended Posts

We'll be cruising on Rhapsody in 5/2014 Honolulu to Vancouver then flying back east from there. Would have preferred to spend a couple of days in Vancouver but family commitments preclude this. Does anyone out there have any suggestions on going from the ship to the airport? Thanks in advance!!!

We just paid a taxi $38.00 for a trip (total for 2 of us) from the airport (YVR) to Canada Place..so I'm assuming it would be the same.

Catching the Canada Line at Waterfront Station, a few blocks away, would be the most economical way.

Vancouver's Canada Line

However, taking a taxi to the airport would probably be the easiest way.

Canada Line is a block from the pier, runs every 7 min. and takes 26 min right to YVR Airport.

$4 for adult and $2.75 for Sr. -CA$ or credit card- for a 2 zone ticket from the machine.

You can take the sky train from the airport it will get you right to waterfront station within 45 minutes it costs less that 10$ /person.. Very easy.. Also a taxi is very easy but can be costly depending on traffic plus we have no highways going downtown so you have lights the whole way.

Enjoy your cruise and Vancouver!

Welcome to cruise critic.

Depending on the time of your flight you might like to consider a post cruise excursion with airport drop off..... options will appear in your online cruise information under the 'My Cruises' section of the website.

Skytrain, $4 (2.75 weekends). Runs from downtown Vancouver to the airport every 6-7 minutes. faster than a taxi.

Skytrain to Airport _ yes it is super easy if you can handle your own luggage adn definitely the cheapest & fastest route.

Details to get to Skytrain (airport line) from Cruise ship disembarkation area. Exit customs and keep to your right. Follow overhead signs that say "Buses & Downtown" you will walk to the right of the crowds that are all trying to exit the main front terminal exit doors. You will come to some double doors walk thru and you will be in front of all the buses - just keep walking straight ahead past the buses (sign will still say downtown) Just past the buses you will see a big neon sign that says Hotel & Convention Centre - entre these doors and take elevator 1 level up to "G" Ground - Exit elevator and walkto your left out the doors of the Pan Pacific Hotel. Once on sidewalk turn left and walk around the corner (street does that) and proceed to Cordova street. (You will pass an entrance to the Waterfront Skytrain station do not go down these stairs wrong Skytrain line) where you will turn left - Now walk to the black awning whihc is the Main Entrance to the main Skytrain station. (was the original Canadian Pacific Railway Station) Immediately unpo entering this building turn to your left and that is the entrance to the Airport line of the Skytrain. Find a ticket machine and buy your tickets before proceeding down to the platform. Once on the platform watch the overhead read out board as the airport line splits in Richmond and alternate trains so to the airport and Bridgeport station. You want the airport train.

This may sound complicated but it is not!

If you want a taxi for the airport my suggestion is to follow above instrucitons for exiting the cruise ship terminal and grab your cab at the entrance to the Pan Pacific Hotel. There you will get a cab immediately downstairs you will wait in a long line for a cab.

A taxi is a good option. In terms of total time elapsed from Canada Place there is no time savings with the Canada Line plus you have to schlep your luggage 3 blocks from Canada Place to Waterfront Station then again from YVR station into the terminal. The savings is in dollars....but if you enjoy comfort or have mobility difficulties then it's a taxi .

Just to add to this:

The seats on Skytrain are big and comfy (big enough to actually put a carryon bag between your knees and the seat in front of you); certainly more comfortable than the backseat of a Prius (which is the most common taxi in Vancouver).

Also, the trains are roll on roll off, getting luggage on and off is very simple.

We did this last weekend after 3 days in Whistler followed by an Alaskan cruise. 2 adults and 2 kids (11, 8). Each of us had a rolling carry-on and a backpack. We walked past the taxi stand (30+ minute wait) and walked (10 minutes max) to Canada Place. Very easy walk with a very small portion slightly uphill. If you don't have rolling luggage, have physical limitations or it is bad weather, it might be more trouble than it is worth. Our total cost was $15.
