St. Johns NB and Halifax Cruise Questions

Check out Cruisehalifax.ca, lots of info there. Its been a while since I had a liberty there, but I alwys enjoyed The Lower Deck and the Split Crow for a good meal and a nice pint. The Halifax Citadel is worth visiting, plus there's also a casino on the water somewhere. All of those are a very short cab ride or a 30-40 minute walk. Halifax is a great a great town with a wonderful seafaring tradition.

Thank you for sharing the cruisehalifax site - very informative!

Check out this video of the Jet Boat ride at Reversing Falls in Saint John.

LMAO...thank you so much for this link, it's freakin hilarious. We are huge Rick Mercer fans in this house. This did absolutely nothing to make me want to do the jetboat ride, lol - do you think they went into rougher water just to soak him more? Otherwise it was a riot - thanks for the laugh!

We're very familiar with Halifax having spent three or four vacations and a recent cruise.

If you are mobile, the city is totally walkable. I have never used a taxi or public transportation to get around. However, there is a city bus that stops across from the terminal and, unlike most cities, they take cash (have change). The driver also gave us a transfer good for several hours if we wanted to return or take a bus on another route. The one from the pier goes down to the Historic Properties which is a shopping mall type of deal with a lot of touristy type of shopping. It is also at the far end of the boardwalk from the terminal. The Historic Properties also have several restaurants and a Cows Ice Cream (voted best in the world).

My favorite restaurant, because I like BEER, is Maxwell's Plum at the Corner of Sackville and Grafton Streets, an easy walk from the waterfront or convention center. They have 60 beers on tap and a like number in bottles. The food is just OK but I'm not there for the food. It's free peanuts where you throw the shells on the floor and an evening of trying new beers. There are, of course, a number of really nice restaurants in town.

The Citadel is interesting and the Public Gardens are worth seeing in season. If you go to the Public Gardens, there is shopping along Queen Garden Street.

Halifax tries to keep festivals and events going on for much of the year to attract tourists so you may want to check www.destinationhalifax.com
