Is there a Fee for ever using the shuttle service?

My neighbor asked me to inquire if anyone has heard of the cruiseline charging a fee to use the shuttle to and from town? Thank you.

Are you talking about a shuttle from the ship to the port or from the port to the center of town?

Yes. Just got off the Grand Prince June 7 Greek Isles cruise.

Dubrovnik - $3 charge from the port to the walled city (the Grand was docked in this port). (Can't remember for sure, think this was for round trip)

Mykonos - 3 Euros from port in Mykonos to main harbor area. (Think this was each way)

Venice - $10 for unlimited use of water shuttle from port to St Marks.

On the Celebrity Millenium, there was no charge for the water shuttle to St mark's square. And on previous Princess cruises (several years back) there was no charge for the shuttle into town. However it was a smaller ship- the Royal princess.

Gross generalization of course, but the cruise lines usually charge for their shuttle services, while in many ports, a free shuttle is provided by the local Chamber of Commerce or similar commercial enterprise (the shops want your money!).

It was about 15 to 20 minutes as it is a fair distance from the port to San Marco's, and it also takes a little while to dock when the water is a bit rough.

When we were on the Sea Princess Med cruise three weeks ago the shuttle buses in Lisbon and La Rochelle from the dock to town were $2 each way per person.

When we began a cruise on the Star Princess from Venice last year there was a blue card in your stateroom. (The ship was in port for two days.) If you used the water taxi your account was charged $10 (unlimited use of the taxi). If you did not use the blue card, you signed it and took it to the pursers desk; this took the $10 charge off of your account.
