Honeybearhollow Posted July 5, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2013 Someone recently asked for the top tips for the Epic and they were very helpful. Can anyone give me the ten top tips or secrets for the Dawn? Especially any top tips for the suites on the Dawn, besides the things every one mentions. Thank you so much! Do any of the tips for the Epic apply also for the Dawn?

I'm fairly certain the suite perks are universal across the fleet. Just the suites themselves are different from ship to ship. Like the Dawn's Garden Villa having almost double the outdoor space than the Jewel class. (excited to check that out in April) I'll keep checking in for Dawn-centric, generic tips. meglet Posted July 5, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 5, 2013 When are you sailing OP? Some of the tips I can think of might apply more to packed summer sailings. Last summer before I went on Dawn I remember there WAS a "tips and tricks and little known" thread about the Dawn. I don't know if you search this sight for "tips on Dawn" if you might still be able to find it.

Are many of the tips mentioned on the Epic also true of the Dawn? I haven't read the Epic tips, but the two ships are quite a bit different. Different entertainment, layout, etc. Many of the same themed type restaurants (e.g. Italian, French, Asian) but more on the Epic.

Do any of the tips for the Epic apply also for the Dawn? I would like to second this request, and thanks to the OP for asking these questions. I will not be in a suite, but I am very interested in any possibly little-known info about the Dawn. The threads on this topic that already exist are 8-9 years old, so it would be great to have some new info on this :)

meglet Posted July 6, 2013 #9 Share Posted July 6, 2013 Sailed on Dawn last July and going again this July. Hope these "tips" still apply. 1. I thought one of the best desserts on the ship was the freshly made crepes in the Garden Buffet. Unless you walk to the end of the venue, you might not even know "crepe guy" was there. 2. There's a coffee set up with some pastries available in the casino in the early AM - at least on sea days. 3. Search cruise critic and you tube for info about specific cabins. Who knew balcony sizes in the SD category could vary so much in size! Who knew that mini suite balconies in the aft have more sloping partitions? 4. Spring for a cute NCL Dawn Christmas ornament in the gift shop. (If you celebrate Christmas) Great stocking stuffer and nearly impossible to find off the ship. 5. Use TWO coffee pods in the in room coffee maker if you like a good tasting cup or bring your own with 2-4 cup basket filters. Ship free coffee is not that good and the coffee you pay for in the atrium isn't like what we're used to from Dunkies or Starbucks. 6. Remember "wind kisses" overlooking the moon trail on the ocean and have a BLAST Sorry some of these aren't Dawn specific, but I'm so jumpin' up and down excited to go. Rare Dorhead1230 Posted July 6, 2013 #10 Share Posted July 6, 2013 Thanks for the info, meglet...when are you sailing? If it is the July 19, head on over to our roll call and say hi!

beaches&sands Posted July 7, 2013 #12 Share Posted July 7, 2013 I'm also going on the Dawn in August. Thanks for the tips! Also, does anyone know what party is held on the boat? Is it the white party or the glow one?

LizzieTrowbridge Posted July 7, 2013 #14 Share Posted July 7, 2013 We sailed on the Dawn June 21-28 and just got home last week. We had a wonderful time. Here are a few tips: 1. Breakfast at The Blue Lagoon is quiet and civilized, no crowds, you get served, and there is no charge. So if you don't feel like fighting crowds in the buffet, have breakfast at the Blue Lagoon. 2. People hog chairs like crazy near the pool! On sea days chairs were saved at 6 am so when you arrive looking for a chair around 9 am there is not a single chair open, but only 10% of those chairs actually have someone in them! We enjoyed the chairs in the bow-quieter, cooler, and easier to find an empty one. 3. If you want to see the comedy show, arrive early because those chairs in the Spinniker were saved early on too! 4. BBQ lunch at the pool on sea days was quite good-better than the buffet. One day they had Jambalaya, which we really enjoyed. 5. Lunch on embarkation day on the Venetian dining room was lovely and quite good. We arrived at the port at 11 am and were having lunch by 12:00 in the Venetian. Happy to answer any questions :)
bguppies Posted July 7, 2013 #15 Share Posted July 7, 2013 Just curious about the smoking rules....(do not want to bother anyone) I know you are allowed to smoke a cigar on your balcony. We will be on the Dawn in the Garden Villa. Technically, there is no balcony. But you have all of that outdoor space by the hot tub and that whole deck above the rooms, the size of a couple of tennis courts. Are you allowed to smoke a cigar up on that wide open deck? (I figure there is no one next to me up there, so I shouldn't bother anyone else.) Just want to know, so I can follow the rules. Bill
Rare alrichards4003 Posted July 7, 2013 #16 Share Posted July 7, 2013 There is an original Monet (and I believe Matisse) in Le Bistro. The Dawn has one of the friendliest crews we have encountered,

Bill Been in the Dawn GV many times and yes - you can smoke (cigarette or cigar) in the outdoor space (either by the hot tub or on the private sundeck above). Your butler will bring you ashtrays. pscozz702 Posted July 7, 2013 #19 Share Posted July 7, 2013 This will be our 4th time on the Dawn. From looking at the deck plans some things have changed. Agree about the crepes in the buffet and also for more quiet breakfast and lunch the MDR is good. With the suite life you also get breakfast and lunch at Cagney's. You can have your butler serve you breakfast or lunch or dinner in your suite or on the balcony for romance. Demonyte Posted July 7, 2013 #22 Share Posted July 7, 2013 Have heard mention of a "Posh Pass". Are they available on the Dawn? No. Posh is a separate outside venue for suite passengers and few paying pass holders on Epic only. Similar venue on Breakaway is called Vibe. Those are not present on older ships. meglet Posted July 8, 2013 #23 Share Posted July 8, 2013 As of last summer, there was also a closed off room next to Gatsby's - the cigar room. My Dad loves Cubans, so we spent a few hours with him and martinis in that little area. Comfy chairs too!

latebloomer56 Posted July 8, 2013 #25 Share Posted July 8, 2013 Dawn questions? Will there be a cooking demo on the Dawn? Also will have our 4 year old grandson with us. Do they have children's robes? Or just for the 3 adults? We will bring him one if needed, but would prefer to pack something else if not. Will they change the loungers on the balcony from 2 to 1 plus 2 regular chairs. Watched you tube clip and both cabins have loungers on the balcony. Thanks
