Solo Cruiser's Roll Call

The group is made up of the TA's family and I am an acquaintance of the TA. The Breakaway sounds great. Which line is it? quote=bob brown;54802356]It sounds like you are not a group that knows each other...just individually bought the package from the travel agent, correct?

In my case, the couple I dined with, I knew from several previous cruises, and am on their (winning;)) trivia team....:)

But since I am single, it is not a good way to meet other singles....

Here I am posting a copy of my experience from another thread:

The Breakaway has a Studio Lounge where Studio cabin occupants have 24 hour access....it is sort of like their 'living room', with a complimentary espresso machine, and snacks throughout the day.

And each evening from about 500 until 600 PM, they block the doors open, and invite all solo passenger's, regardless of their cabin location, to mingle for 'Happy Hour'....they have a bartender at that time, (you pay for those drinks, unless you have the drink package). More important...they have a host from the cruise activities staff assigned there, to make introductions, conduct party games, and provide a sign up sheet for those wishing to dine in specialty restaurants on different dates. They also have a similar sheet for those wishing to go on shore excursions together.

At the end of the hour, they invite all those not going to specialty restaurants to go as a group to the main dining room for dinner, where they have one or two large tables reserved....clear.png?emoji-cool-1690

You can ask about this on the Carnival board....I don't recall if they did similar, on my one Carnival Vista cruise...

Or you can ask the maitre 'd....

Or check the daily 'Fun Times' to see if it's listed....

Good luck!:)

Hello to all

Going to be sailing on the Carnival Miracle January 13th through the Panama Canal solo.

Getting a divorce and have been contemplating not going but I have wanted to do the Panama canal since I learned about it in Grade School. The cruise is paid for so her goes nothing.

Would appreciate any advice or wisdom as I start the next chapter in my life

It is Norwegian Cruise Lines....they have a dedicated Studio Lounge on all their newer, larger ships. On their other ships, they meet at one of the public lounges....but it is not the same experience, I've been told...

Ok, hopefully I’ve trimmed the quote properly but just wanted to say, thanks for posting this. I’m on the Epic next August and in a Studio, so this is good info to know. With the shore excursions, do they have a signup board and then you go and pay at the shore excursion desk? That sounds kinda fun, I’ve got a few ports with nothing planned so far.

A lady only 2 pages back may be doing a Panama Canal cruise on Cunard in Jan. She was thinking of cancelling and many of us have told her why she should go, if possible. I am glad you definitely are going to go. The canal is fascinating. I have done the partial trip.

You will probably have a great time, and a wonderful adventure.I'd also say keep reading the solo cruiser thread. There are lots of tips and info here. happy holidays!

1st cruise and solo...

HAL Nieuw Amst 12/30

Leaning toward self- exploration in ports but open to excursion suggestions. I'm a fairly intrepid traveler - looking for interesting and unique sites, people and experiences.

Welcome to Cruise Critics!

Be sure to introduce yourself on the Roll Call for your cruise, and attend the 'Meet and Greet'....you'll then already 'know' some cruise mates before you even board....

And also look at the section of CC that gives vast information on the individual ports of call you are making... A veritable fortune in knowledge is contained within....and you can either use the search feature, or just ask questions....:)

First solo cruise in January! Super excited and nervous...been on plenty of Royal Caribbean ships, first time on NCL. Really looking forward to the Escape.

Congrats on your first solo trip rbschultz! I'm going on my first in April, and I have similar feelings. I've cruised on Royal Caribbean and the Escape before. We can swap tips/stories if you'd like. Either way, best of luck and enjoy your sailing!

You’ll love Escape. I did a solo cruise on that ship last year. Had a great time.

I’ll actually be on Celebrity’s Summit in April. Last week I was on Indy and had a great time (despite the noro news). I do love Royal, but I enjoy trying new things. Actually, I’m typically happy on any cruise. Haha.

I really liked Indy, but I haven't been on in quite a while. I want to go back on Liberty sometime soon and check out that new slide :P. Have you been on a Celebrity ship before? Definitely recommend you go to Qsine...such a fun restaurant.

I haven't been on Liberty yet, but I did see you went on Navigator. :) I enjoyed my trip on her. I haven't been on a Celebrity before, so I'm excited to try it out. What did you like most about Qsine?

The food is really playful, creative, and fun. We just told the waiters to bring things and they did an amazing job. This was on a different ship though (Reflection).

Bradleyk, I’m solo on the Epic in August for the first time. If you have any tips or advice I’d really appreciate them. I’ve read lots of reviews that weren’t great and I’m now worried I’ve booked the wrong ship! :(

NORWEGIAN EPIC MARCH 3-7, 2018. This will be my second solo on the Epic. I had a blast the first time, met a lot of new friends that we all still keep in touch.

Are you in one of the solo studio rooms? I’ve booked in the Epic for October 28 and am in one. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the Epic. What are your thoughts on the ship?

The complaints that I have read about the Epic usually revolve around the odd bathrooms in the balcony cabins and the smoking in the casino. For these 2 issues... I'm in a studio so I don't care about the balcony cabins. Lol. And for the smoking in the casino it is no different than any of the other 5 ships that I have been on.

I went last March and I had a great time. though I do wish the ship had the waterfront like the getaway, breakaway, escape. But the pools are sooo much better on the Epic. Also the adults area at the back of the ship has a small pool which is nice. Do you have any questions that I can help with?

One thing, make sure to go to the studio lounge for drinks around 530, people will be gathered there every evening and we would all go to dinner together.
