Half day tour to Montserret?

We will be arriving in Barcelona about 8:30 am the morning BEFORE our cruise. Since the hotel room more than likely would not be available until later in the day, we are wondering if it would be good use of our day to book a half-day tour from the airport - out to Montserret – then drop off at the hotel. Then the next morning before embarkation, I was thinking of doing a half-day tour of Barcelona. Has anyone done this? Would it be a good use of our time?

Since no one has responded, thought I would. We did a trip to Montserrat on a turnaround day during a pair of B2B cruises. Had we visited on our own and not been constricted by the need to be back to Barcelona to board for the second cruise, we probably would have spent a little more time there. But we felt the time we spent in Montserrat was adequate.

We are planning on doing the same 1/2 day tour when we come off of our cruise in June. Since we will not be able to check-in to our hotel until 2:00 or so, we thought it would be a wise choice to utilize the time. We were going to do it as you are planning but thought we would be to tired after an overnight flight. I guess it depends on the type of flyer you are. Enjoy!

You could go to your hotel and drop off your bags. Then go to the train station and buy the Monserat travel package...train tickets, tram tickets, etc. You can buy this at the railway store at Plaza Cataluña if you wish.

This can easily be done on your own.

That sounds like a great option. Do you know how much the package is or where I can get the info from? Thanks for the tip! :)

No, cannot remember but it is inexpensive. Look it up in Frommers on line, or Rick Steves, or post the question on the tripadvisor forum. Or google it.

There is another upside. There is the off chance that your room might actually be available. Always a treat to unpack and wash up a little prior to going out again.

Thank you for the comments and suggestions. I think we are "going to go for it" and do the Montserret tour!! We had thought about doing the train, but for a couple of reason decided against doing that. We already have a city tour scheduled for the morning prior to boarding - so this seems like a good time to see an area we have been reading about. NOW . . . to post it on the roll-call and see if any other weary travellers want to give it a go too.
