Rare WesW Posted July 24, 2013 Author #180 Share Posted July 24, 2013 In Akureyri we enjoyed the Jewels of the North excursion. The Silver Journal wonderfully described our outstanding excursion, capped off with a Welcome Home by the Cloud Butler Team (pls see pix below). “Experience volcanic energy and natural wonders during this full-day tour, experiencing vast lava fields, bubbling hot pools and hissing fumaroles ; historical waterfalls, acclaimed bird life, sweeping valleys and green pasture lands.” We visited in order Lake MyVatn, Namaskard, Dimmuborgir, and Godafass in order on our excursion. Pls enjoy some pix:

Rare WesW Posted July 25, 2013 Author #187 Share Posted July 25, 2013 Today we’re docked in Isafjorour, Iceland. Ida and I took a stroll around this small town this morning. Isafjorour is the centre of the West Fjords peninsula. Pls enjoy these pix: Ida in front of Isaforjour’s Fisherman monument: TxLadyCruiser/Karen & Wayne out for a morning stroll : Observed what I thought was a fishing boat docked, approached and asked them what they did. This is a Joint British military unit on a adventure training mission, 8 weeks in during. They are on their sixth of eight legs. The unit started out of SouthHampton and will next sail to Eastern Greenleand. The Endeavor has a 14 person crew, each shares cooking duties. Patrick is the crew member I talked too. Asked him which service he liked best, naturally he said the Army. Asked if there were any Marines on board—he pointed the member rolling the sail..Asked, he slept with a teddy bear like most Navy & Marines do :) [/url

Wellseasoned Posted July 26, 2013 #191 Share Posted July 26, 2013 Wes, I was puzzled to see your photo of the British ship "Endeavour" in Isafjordur, a port which I remember well. Capt Cook never sailed to Iceland in that ship, I thought. But then you mentioned that it was run by Army rather than Navy, so all was clear. Rare RachelG Posted July 26, 2013 #192 Share Posted July 26, 2013 Wes, big trouble dis-ing my Marines. GE trained some British Marines and was very impressed with them. Loving your pictures as we were there just last year, makes me want to go back again. Iceland is the best.

bsrkent Posted July 26, 2013 #197 Share Posted July 26, 2013 Thanks Wes for taking us along. The Cloud crew is amazing partially because they have been together so long (a story angle you may want to explore) and of course because of Jorge... maybe the best at sea. You may also want to look up Chris, a waiter in The Restaurant for dinner, at the soups / pasta for lunch... long time crew... great people. All the Best to you & Ida, who seems to have recovered nicely.

This is his first contract, and we were so pleased to see how he has grown into his position since we first met him. We fully anticipate that he will be a maitre d' some day soon.
