The Bio-bay tour was scheduled at 7, so we spent about few hours at the beach, then headed back to Bravo Beach.

We made good use of both of the pools for a while, playing with the timer function on the camera.

We couldn't deny any longer that we would soon have to say good-bye to our island retreat.
Reluctantly, we packed as much as we could before heading out for our tour.
The meeting point for our tour was in Esperanza, so we headed there for dinner and one last walk on the beach there.
LOL, Aplmac!

Remember, I have already penciled in a week in Barbados for our next trip! :):):)

I guess I'll add the South Coast to the itinerary! :D:cool:

There's a good chance you'll stay somewhere along the lively South Coast of the island. ;)

You're not the fuddy-duddy West Coast type, I can tell.

The CVS is located just down the street from the pier.
Not a bad walk at all.
Yes, we did just carry the items back on board in the plastic bags. :)
Thanks for the feedback!

We booked our tour with Vieques Adventure Company.
The cost was $50 per person and well worth it.
They use clear kayaks, which makes the whole experience even more magical!
http://viequesadventures.com/vieques-tours-rentals/clear-canoe-bio-bay-experience/

We followed their instructions to avoid lotions, bug repellents, and anything else that could potentially harm the bay.
They also advised that all valuables, including cameras, be left behind. :(
So, sadly I do not have any of my own images to share.
I borrowed these two images from the internet.

The tour was not without sacrifice.
13 people were stuffed into an old van for a treacherous ride down a muddy, unlit, poorly maintained road.
It was probably better that we couldn't actually see where we were going.
The name of the bay is Mosquito Bay, so there were a few bug bites while we loaded into the kayaks.
There was a learning curve involved; trying to get 13 people corralled, headed in the right direction, and learning to paddle in sync, all while in total darkness was a challenge.

Having said that, the trip was truly amazing!
The glowing waters were almost unbelievable.
As an added bonus, the cloudless night sky was filled with thousands of twinkling stars.

As we paddled along the edge of the Mangroves and out into the bay, you could see thousands of florescent blue specs glide under the clear kayak.
Each stroke of the paddle produced a large, brilliant, bright blue glow in the water.
Swimming fish, large and small, created the same magical effect.

Many horses freely roam the island.
Some are branded and appear to be well cared for, but the owners do not have land to keep them.

Our flight from SJU to Houston was delayed, so we didn't arrive back until after midnight.
We were so happy we had opted for the sleep, park and fly option.

We had an absolutely amazing vacation!
We enjoyed every single port we visited, had near perfect weather, and met some really nice people.
We loved our Southern Caribbean cruise and will probably do something similar in the future.
However, next year's plan is Barbados and Vieques!

Happy sailing everyone!

Love the sea glass, especially the blues. Did you find the shells there too? Beautiful. I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your whole review and love the great pictures you got. We were just on the Carnival Valor (southern Caribbean) May 5 sailing and LOVED it. After reading your post cruise review on Vieques, I'd love to go there for a week vacation sometime. Thank you again for taking the time to do a review. I was going to try to do one, but just never managed to find the time.

SCORE! on the sea glass. Nicely done. :) I collected a bunch on our two trips to Fiji, but it was mostly green. Love your pieces of blue.
Thanks guys! :)
We did find all of the glass and shells on various beaches on Vieques.
It became sort of an addiction...
Luckily DH and I both suffer equally from the condition! :)

pghsteelerfan, glad you are considering a visit to Vieques!
Next time we will stay at least a week.
We were pretty busy, but unable to visit even half the beaches!:)

I've been timed out for more than hour now and I've finished your review and was going to comment, but other things pasted here instead. If memory serves me correctly, I think I was going to comment on your camera before getting called away.

Anyhow, I had the same camera until mine died underwater while in St. Thomas last year. I have a newer model of the Olympus camera, but I feel that one (the one you have) took better pictures. It's highly possible I didn't use the correct settings for underwater, but who knows?

But I absolutely enjoyed your review and maybe I'll give the Bio Bay a try in PR. I had no interests in doing it because I did a tour in Jamaica and hated it. You could see the glow of the water, but it was nothing like pictures and video on the website. The stock photo you posted is what the waters was supposed to look like, but it was nothing remotely close to it. And you mentioned that swimming isn't allowed; I wonder if that is the downfall to the one in Jamaica? And we were not told to not wear lotion, bug repellent, etc.

Did the actual site resemble the pictures on their website? Did the waters really glow?

The water absolutely glows, a bright color like the bottom photo, with any movement, such as a paddle stroke, the kayak gliding through the water, fish swimming, or your hand in the water.

The photo on top very much resembled what the water looked liked when the kayaks were moving in the water.
When you placed your hand and arm in the water and moved it around there was a beautiful glow all over your hand.
Water that would run down your arm produced a twinkling effect.

I believe the clear kayaks enhanced the experience tremendously!

The lower photo looks like it may have been raining with possibly someone throwing something into the water, but that is pretty much the same color and brightness produced with movement. :)

Wow! Now I will definitely have to do it in PR. I was so glad that the tour was free for me in Jamaica; I booked all of my excursions with one company and I negotiated a free tour.

And I realize I mixed my words earlier; I was trying to say that the Olympus 6020 took better pictures than my newer model (TG 630). Yours took excellent pictures and mine did too until it died. :( I'm assuming that the photos didn't come out as good on this one as the 6020 because my settings could have been wrong. I'll have an opportunity in October to test it again. :)

Glad your going to give it another try!

The one in Vieques is supposed to be the brightest in the world.

The bay is what led us to the island for our post cruise stay.

Just check the moon calender on one of the companies web sites for the best time to visit.

The link below has some great information on the bay.

Have a great trip in October! :)

No DH, but I did take a look around to see if I had any of DS's cards from previous cruises. No luck yet.:(

I will keep you in mind if I come across them in the future!:)
