A Disney Cruise without taking kids???

Were "grandparent" types who usually cruise Celebrity (done over 25 cruises) and with a recent acquisition of DVC points are considering a Disney ship cruise...are there areas for adults only, bars and lounge music at night? Can we get a table for two at dinner (we'd rather not be seated with other's kids)...anybody have experience with this side of the Disney cruise experience? Thanks in advance for your help.:)

There are definitely places for adults only on the ship inside and out. Some of the lounges become adults only after a certain hour (maybe 9 pm?). I loved the pool, hot tub and deck area for adults only. I can't remember if there are tables for two but there were tables for four - you could sit with another couple without children.

Enjoy your cruise!

Which ship are you looking at? They all have separate adult only venues. There is also Palo for adult only dining for a fee plus Remy on the new ships.

We go on DCL all the time without the kids or grand kids. Love the areas on the Fantasy, over the other 3 ships although all are very good.

The adult clubs are adult only after 9 P.M. until then they do have family events in them. But forward on the ship its always adult only at the adult pool an hot tub area and up on deck 14 forward is a nice outside bar with a huge sitting area and behind that are many more chairs and satellite falls which is my favorite quiet area to cool off and relax in the quiet.

Request late dinging for fewer kids. Usually we are seated with other couples not families. Also cruise during the fall when most kids are in school. Of course there are still lots of kids on board but not as many as summer and school holiday times.

Disneys private island, Castaway Cay has a nice adult only area for sitting on the beach and they even have a small BBQ there for lunch . no kids allowed. They often have a steak or lobster that Cookies BBQ for families don't have as well as all the usual BBQ foods. it depends on what is left on board at the end of the cruise what extra food they cook in the adult area.

There is a tram to take you there and you can rent bikes to explore both bike trails there too.

We love it!!

Kathy

Our whole group has zero kids. I still do not understand why this question comes up all the time. Most of us LOVE WDW parks and dining and Epcot and so forth. Disney cruising is exactly like that. We love the technology, high caliber service, entertainment , Castaway, incredible staterooms. They cruise on a Princess or Celebrity level but represent all ages and bring their typical magic. I like the family atmosphere (no smokey casino or thongs on the dance show) but kids are sooooooo not necessary to Disney cruising. Come on people! We celebrated our 10th this yr on the Dream. Still no kids in the plan and happy as can be.

Sheesh. If one more person asks if it's OK or a good idea to cruise Disney without kids, I may have to calm myself.

It most definitely is and no you don't have to feel any guilt about it either! But bring the fam if you want to of course. But if you want your own getaway, its all good!

You're probably saying that tongue in cheek, but just in case, my 2 cents.

DCL is very expensive. I can understand the question, especially if one does not read this DCL board that much.

OP, we are Celebrity kidless cruisers and very much enjoy DCL.

We found the newer ships to be a little more adult only friendly. The areas were larger and not as easy to pass through as it is on the Wonder and Magic.

Using DVC points for a cruise may not be the best use, but that is something you will need to decide.

Which resort do you have points with (DVC)?

Good luck!

There are several resources on a popular additional forum that is more keyed in to DVC and DCL. I believe the general consensus is that it's not always the best use of your points, but some people do it.

I have heard people say they only cruise X & DCL, and after dipping my toes in to DCL, I don't think I can ever be tempted by a cheap CCL again...!

I think DCL is great for EVERYONE!

My parents over the age of 70 took a disney cruise and loved it, depends on the ship if a table for 2 is an option. If you eat in Palo, the alternate restaurant, you will be seated by yourselves.

Agree with your post...always wondered why it was asked...I mean if an adult loves Disney parks, you've answered your own question...I think Disney has done a great job of trying to make sure adults to have "their own space areas"...super important..maybe they need to advertise it better? Glad to hear you enjoyed the Dream..we are doing her in a few months for a quickie 3 day...we were heading to Disney that weekend anyways, found a great balcony deal, the price was comparable to what we would have spent in parks, hotel, etc...

Yeah you did the right thing! We added on one park hopping day the night before and a dinner at The Wave at the Contemporary (which I really recommend!) We started our 'cruise' as a family- to my parent's shock who hopefully if we pulled if off successfully, had no idea we all were coming!- under Cinderella's castle with the Wishes fireworks the night before. I think Dad was speechless (which is saying something!) They had been watching all the kids all over the Magic KG that afternoon (we had already hit MK and moved on, we were moving fast to catch the new stuff and didn't want to surprise run into them until the big dinner reveal) and then there they were, with their twin 'babies' (even at 31) under the Castle as a family! Talk about a wow moment! We finished up the night with MOnsters Laugh twice (they had never seen it, Dad was THAT GUY!) and the Electric Parade and then rode the ferries all over the lakes until everything closed and we had to take a taxi back! Haha. What a great day.

The single park hopping day plus 3 day cruise was enough to fill 20 fully typed normal font/spacing trip log journal that I remembered in detail almost 2 weeks after I got home! We are all still living that trip.

If you haven't done and are interested, I HIGHLY recommend the Sea Lion encounter at Blue Lagoon. You get to play with them, shake their flippers, pet them, kiss and hug them!!! It was amazing! We are going back to Blue Lagoon in May!

Hi Maggie! See you soon!

You will have a blast. You definitely did the right thing!
