I can't believe some of these responses! In fact I can't believe I am wasting my time writing this! It's just a Taste! HLR In restaurant-ese, an amuse bouche :)
Skeetersmom Posted August 25, 2013 #52 Share Posted August 25, 2013 We wont miss the sushi bar, the only times we used it was walking past and stop to get some shrimp, no sushi, just the cold shrimp and sauce. They always looked at us like we were strange for not wanting the other things. oh yea, and when we borrowed a few plates when we were on the Dream, they had these really cool looking plates, our son now has a set of 8 that accidently got lost in our luggage. Kudos to your son, the thief. And don't be offended by the choice of words because that is what he is. You must be very proud to brag about it. pjpu Posted August 25, 2013 #53 Share Posted August 25, 2013 Just returned from our cruise on the Facination, we went to the Taste Bar several nights - we thought the food was good - esp the last night, deliciously different! DH would've preferred Sushi, but not me. I think it would be nice if they could alternate nights with sushi/taste bar, because they didn't have the Taste bar every night anyway. crusinpsychRN Posted August 25, 2013 #55 Share Posted August 25, 2013 So far I haven't liked any of the tastes on my last few cruises. Saw lots of plates with food left on them. I never really liked sushi either until I had it on a cruise. I know it's not like sushi lovers want but I liked it for the most part. Especially with the hot sauces. Great app before late dinner. Can't seem to remember to get it now it's on Lido. Or it's not there when I'd like it.

wannago35 Posted August 26, 2013 #57 Share Posted August 26, 2013 It depends on which ship you are on. Some ships have an area dedicated as a taste bar, and others only have a cart on wheels type setup on the promenade deck. Anybody know what the setup is on the Dream? fuddrules Posted August 26, 2013 #61 Share Posted August 26, 2013 Just for your info - when we were on the Breeze, both times the taste bar offered a small hot/cold breakfast buffet each morning. Was a nice place to go to beat the buffet crowds. Plenty to eat, and a nice choice. At lunchtime they made it into a salad bar, where you could pick your ingredients and dressing and they would mix up a nice fresh salad for you. Was a nice healthy option (except for the dressings) if that is what you want. Had a great spread of veggies to pick from, also! That is not the taste bar people are referring to. Acutally, at least physically, it is. At least on sea days on the Sunshine, the taste bar was set up to serve breakfast. I'm not sure how many knew that, I didn't until I walked by. At that point, it was a whole breakfast area set up to serve only me (seemed a little wasteful) as I was the only person there.
LandlockedCruiser01 Posted August 26, 2013 #62 Share Posted August 26, 2013 Just wondering (didn't read through whole thread) why there's no talk going on about Sushi being served now in the Lido Buffet at dinner hours. It just moved from the little Sushi cart to the buffet. Sushi isn't gone--it's just in a different location. I disagree. On my last cruise, I tried looking for the suhi on lido buffet, on multiple days, like you're suggesting. It was never there. I asked a crew member, and he told me that all sushi on the ship was discontinued (except what's served in the MDR). Maybe the sushi elimination is ship-specific, but this was my experience. nlktx49 Posted August 27, 2013 #64 Share Posted August 27, 2013 On the Triumph back in November they had the Taste Bar - I think it was a cart, it was set up at the end of the bar next to the casino. The tastes were delicious, everyone in our group of six liked them. None of them was served on the ship, as Triumph doesn't have any "extra" eateries. We had late dining so the timing was perfect. One night they also had the $5 drink special to go with it. They were served on real plates, but some of the stuff was kind of hard to eat with just a toothpick! We'll be on the refurbished Triumph in February, hope they still have the Taste Bar.
Go2now Posted August 28, 2013 #65 Share Posted August 28, 2013 Yes, they replaced sushi bar with the taste bar on Freedom. I do not care about sushi, but when we were on Freedom, they gave us the same thing to taste three days in a row. I did not go to the taste bar for rest of the cruise. Every time I was there, there were always two or three people ahead of me, if you call this as a line. We wont miss the sushi bar, the only times we used it was walking past and stop to get some shrimp, no sushi, just the cold shrimp and sauce. They always looked at us like we were strange for not wanting the other things. oh yea, and when we borrowed a few plates when we were on the Dream, they had these really cool looking plates, our son now has a set of 8 that accidently got lost in our luggage. I am not sure how old your son is , but this is one review I won't be sharing with the fifteen year old I am raising.... Are you that needy? Gemynii Posted August 28, 2013 #66 Share Posted August 28, 2013 Does anyone know if the Taste Bar is available on Ecstasy? If so, did it take the place of the Sushi Bar? If it has, is sushi available at the buffet? If it's served on the buffet, is there a certain day or time? Sorry for all the questions. I'd like to try the Taste Bar, but DD was really looking forward to sushi. On our cruise last year, sushi was served on the last night in the MDR, but we will probably hit the buffet on the last night this year, so she won't be able to get it from the dining room. Thanks. skiwee Posted August 28, 2013 #67 Share Posted August 28, 2013 Isn't this the same food you get in the MDR? It's not some specialty place is it? I thought it was just to give you an idea of what is offered free as a main dish elsewhere. I guess it's neat of you are not sure what something tastes like and want a sample before ordering it but I thought if you didn't like it you can reorder anyway. Am I missing something? fabby50 Posted August 28, 2013 #68 Share Posted August 28, 2013 No, it's not the same food served in the MDR. It is "tastes" of food that are examples of the speciality restaurants available on several Carnival cruise ships. Like little appetizers.

So the Blye Lagoon on the sign of one is a pay to eat at restaurant on the ship? Or is it still the free restaurants.
trixiegal Posted August 31, 2013 #70 Share Posted August 31, 2013 I went twice with my DD when we were on the Dream last week. Once they were sampling Italian specialities- bruschetta and enormous meatballs and paired with an optional house Chianti for $5. It wasn't bad. The next night it was high-end Caribbean food and tasted great. Don't know if there was a discounted drink that evening. The lines moved quickly. I never saw more than 6 people in a line. I consider myself interested in "foodie" events and wine, so I thought it was a nice upscale touch coming from Carnival. I recognized one of the chefs from the steakhouse but no one pushed making a reservation or anything from what I observed. But I think dining at least one night at the steakhouse is a must-do. It was fantastic!

The sushi we had in MDR one night was almost inedible. I was looking forward to it all week but it was bad. Everyone at my table was seriously not happy. I drowned it in soy sauce and wasabi just to get it down, then I gave up. Too many people on that ship to get sushi right in the MDR. I wish they still had a dedicated sushi bar! elliair Posted August 31, 2013 #72 Share Posted August 31, 2013 On the Miracle it was sporadic with the Taste Bar. Crew was limited and people walked up to the soup and served themselves. Was not impressed with the taste treats, nothing we would ever order. If you're hungry move to the Lido deck. They claim it's "Steak House venue," but it isn't anything I would order from the Steak House. They may as well do away with this creature. JMHO. We discovered it on the second to last morning and wished we had found it sooner. The breakfast was just being put away when we walked past, but seemed to have a few different offerings from the main lido buffet. The lunch was lovely. A few (maybe 4 or 5) hot dishes from the lido buffet and then soup with toppings and a very good selection of salad items that you chose as many as you liked from and then the chef mixed it with your choice of dressing. As it was just off the Ocean Plaza, which was hardly ever busy, there was lots of room to sit and enjoy it. As I said, we really wished we had found it earlier in our cruise. There didn't seem to be much mention of it in the Fun Times. The Taste Bar was open every night with a similar menu to the picture posted previously. It was small samples from a different extra charge restaurant every night and then one night there was sushi (only one type: salmon roll). We didn't try any of it as there was nothing vegetarian, but the children tried the sushi and said it was "ok"
Elustriah Posted August 31, 2013 #74 Share Posted August 31, 2013 I loved it! It was a little taste before dinner :) On our ship (The Fantasy) in July they only offered it on Sea Days. Port Days they didn't. I went and looked one day and that is what I was told. I hope they change that.
