The new taste bar on carnival

I concur with good riddance to the sushi bar.

Everything I've gotten from the Taste Bar was on a plate, nothing paper about it.

On the new Carnival Sunshine, the Taste Bar also doubles (triples?) as a breakfast bar and also a lunch bar. Much better use of space and better food than a one trick sushi bar.

I appreciate what you guys are trying to do, and I realize that no pork will compare the sushi and wasabi that I loved that had me literally 'crying' with joy (while an old guy was wondering why I liked it so much since it made me 'cry').

I know I have been wrong many times, but here is the realty. He handed over a lil cup (maybe it wasn't paper, maybe it was glass like the one seen above) but he literally popped it over the 'counter' or glass or whatever you want to call it and handed it to my husband, in a cup.

There wasn't any bisque. There was no plate. We walked on with it and that was it. Maybe my honey said no to the bisque or maybe there wasn't any and the guy just put the pork into the cup, but it was the most underwhelming thing I'd ever seen offered as a food item.

Not sure if it was a Dream thing (seriously wouldn't surprise me because the Dream seemed anomalous compared to my other CCLs) or if it was a back in Feb thing.

Anyway I'm glad you porky eaters like the taste bar. :D

Majority rules. Sushi gone. :(

Not a fan of sushi. I like the shrimp and veggie rolls. That's it. But DH loved it. And I liked that it was offered at least. Taste bar is very cool in my opinion. But the Sushi bar was cool too!!:)

The only issue I had with the sushi was that it was bad sushi. I live in Southern California, there's some pretty good sushi here.

How about on the breeze?

oh yea, and when we borrowed a few plates when we were on the Dream, they had these really cool looking plates, our son now has a set of 8 that accidently got lost in our luggage.

Who cares if they sell those plates at any Macy's across the county. You paid for your cruise so you're entitled to them.
While they were at it ,I hope they took advantage of the complimentary toilet seats and TV's.

Why it's hardly common theft when you think of it that way.

Were weren't impressed with the taste bar but I would have to agree that the sushi was quite poor.

I have never seen so much use of cream cheese in sushi.

Yes, they replaced sushi bar with the taste bar on Freedom. I do not care about sushi, but when we were on Freedom, they gave us the same thing to taste three days in a row. I did not go to the taste bar for rest of the cruise. Every time I was there, there were always two or three people ahead of me, if you call this as a line.

We wont miss the sushi bar, the only times we used it was walking past and stop to get some shrimp, no sushi, just the cold shrimp and sauce.

They always looked at us like we were strange for not wanting the other things.

Now, this suprises me. They had the Taste Bar on the Miracle when we sailed this past Feb. which did indeed replace the sushi bar. It was in between the entrance to the casino and sports bar. This is the "promenade area" with chairs, couches and tables. DH was in the casino, so I grabbed a plate of "taste" and proceded to walk into the casino with it to join DH when I was hauled back being told that I had to eat the food THERE. :o I was not allowed to bring a PLATE into the casino.:confused: It was the very strangest thing...you would think I was walking off with the crown jewels or taking a whole tray of food on glass plates into the pool.:p

Do they do this on the Dream?

Remember - unlike other ships the Breeze has an extra fee sushi "restaurant." I am not particularly fond of sushi, but it was always crowded, and people had nothing but good things to say about it. They seemed to serve large portions, and everything was made right there.

They had the Taste Bar on the Dream, and it was delicious! The only thing we were disappointed about was the fact that most of the restaurants that had the featured food weren't on our ship :( But it was a great way to start the evening!

Maybe they didn't want you greasing up the machines while eating the samples. As for stealing plates, that's something I wouldn't brag about on a cruising forum board. Smuggling booze yes, but plates?

I totally agree. On the Pride, the Taste Bar was great but it would have been even better if the featured food were served on our ship. Perfect little appetizer serving pre-dinner. And, we were allowed to walk into the Casino with our Taste Bar appies. Not a problem at all.

Just wondering (didn't read through whole thread) why there's no talk going on about Sushi being served now in the Lido Buffet at dinner hours. It just moved from the little Sushi cart to the buffet. Sushi isn't gone--it's just in a different location.

Can someone elighten me on the New Taste Bar on Carnival....Do you just walk up to a station and they give you a plater? Do you go into a certain area and they serve people?......Is the taste bar of different ethnic food or something different?... Any pictures would be nice too....

It depends on which ship you are on. Some ships have an area dedicated as a taste bar, and others only have a cart on wheels type setup on the promenade deck.

Seriously?

This is probably why TwinPrincessMermaid had only a teeny paper cup at the taste bar on her cruise.

I liked the sushi bar but am excited about the taste bar. It sounds like a nice appetizer to have with my pre-dinner glass of wine.

We enjoyed the taste bar on the Sensation every night last week. It was always from 5:30-8:00pm on the Promenade Deck. You can have more than one serving. And the last night they had a $5 taste bar drink special. I enjoyed it!

This is why I've never tried it. Too close to dinner and who wants more after you've eaten?

I guess I am in the minority, I enjoyed the sushi bar and having a little taste, but then I don't like to eat dinner until 7 or 8 so a little plate is not going to interfere with my dinner.

I only went to the Taste Bar once on the Breeze and had the bruschetta and meatball, it was a great sample and available at La Cucina, the featured eatery. I am torn, part of me feels like the food from the featured eatery should be food they actually serve and the othe part, says it is good to have something completely different.

OMG! The station isn't called MEAL...or "Stuff Your Face"... It's called Taste! It's delivering EXACTLY what is advertises! I can't believe some of these responses! In fact I can't believe I am wasting my time writing this!

It's just a Taste!

Just for your info - when we were on the Breeze, both times the taste bar offered a small hot/cold breakfast buffet each morning. Was a nice place to go to beat the buffet crowds. Plenty to eat, and a nice choice. At lunchtime they made it into a salad bar, where you could pick your ingredients and dressing and they would mix up a nice fresh salad for you. Was a nice healthy option (except for the dressings) if that is what you want. Had a great spread of veggies to pick from, also!

That is not the taste bar people are referring to.
