How did you like your scenic ocean view cabin?

the cabin was spectacular. But I tried it. Its not for me.

The room is big enough but I cant imagine 4 people in this cabin. I guess if people lived out of suitcases there will be plenty of storage space.

There is 2 closets-- not three. there are no shelves in the closets-- only hanging space. THere are 4 very small drawers-- so I guess each person will have one drawer for unpacking.

I have read that being on the lido deck is very convenient. On this class of ship we always booked 7409- out the door there is the elevator. Up two decks is food/drinks. down two decks is entertainment.

When I got up in the morning it was a hike to go get a coffee. also at night because the only available machine was midship. then trudge it back to the cabin.

The cabin was located on deck 9 the most forward cabin possible. Guess where our dining room was.. Deck 3 aft at the most aft table as possible. back by the aft windows.. now that was a hike night after night.

then go all the way forward to watch the shows. That goes against everything I believed in regarding table placement goes by where your cabin is located-- because that placement was not convenient at all.

the view was specatuclar. At night the cabin steward had the shades down. Once we were done getting ready for the evening and into bed we opened the shaded-- You can not have the shades open with the lights on.

But let me tell you come 6am when the sun came up boy was it bright-- I felt like a vampire--- arghh- had to get out of bed and shut those shades-- but it was worth it.

THe last two mornings were quite foggy. The fog horn can not be heard in the room but when you walk out the door to the lido deck-- be careful cause it scared the crap outta me because I was not expecting it.

The sofa bed is the pull out type. Two people sleep in that and its rock hard.

The first night trying to sleep in there and the bed smelled really bad of bad body oder. We told the steward and he changed out everything. It didnt smell after that night. (gawd please tell me he does change the stuff between cruises-- that thought just didnt set well with me the rest of the week.

Matt Mitchum is the cruise director. He was on vacation for 3 months prior and came back on August 15th and took over his ship for our sailing on August 19th.

He is very visable during the cruise== there is a music trivia that he runs with the Asst cruise director Everson. Its fun and many people particiapate. Its held in the lounge area located by the Camel Club Casino. They run the questions-- guess this song then everyone participates with singing those songs when the questions are finished. Its a fun 30-40 minutes. THe best part is the ad-libbing of those songs by Matt and Everson. Funny. VERY hilarious

My brothers family arrived at the pier at 11:15. Checked in and was seated. Boarding started at 11:30 so their wait was not long. You had cabin access at 1pm.

We arrived at 11:35, checked in and went on the ship. To our cabin to drop stuff off. then to the lido deck and it was not even 12:00 Very easy.

Lido buffet was not crowded yet so we got our first lunch of the day. Nope, didnt eat Guys Burgers. Actually only ate there one time the entire cruise. We tried everywhere at least once.

Had breakfast burritos once for breakfast. Had Guys one day for lunch. Grabbed fries from time to time. Tried the Deli, Had pizza twice late night.

Room service twice. Main Dining room every night for dinner.

Food was good but many times it was not even warm-- like the chicken fetticini. was cold and i could not eat it like that.

All in all- gained only two pounds on this sailing. Not bad at all

Well, at least you tried out one of those cabins and now know they're not for you. I'm going on the Glory in October out of Norfolk and when I booked there were scenic oceanviews available and I really went back and forth over that or an L-shaped balcony room. I ended up with the balcony since we were going to the Bahamas. After what you've reported, I'm glad I did. And, I am totally amazed that you were in the most possible forward cabin on the ship and were assigned the aft dining room. That's just crazy. I also thought dining rooms were assigned by location of the rooms. I look forward to reading more about your trip. Thanks so much.

If you have been on 19 cruises, you should probably familiar enough to know the logistics of the ship before you booked and knew what you were getting into.

I did the Conquest & Glory a few years ago and knew right away that I would never book a Conquest class ship ever again.

Can you tell me what dining room breakfast is ...thanks!

the aft dining room and its the punchliners menu. on debarkation morning its the regular dining menu for breakfast. go early cause they kicked us out at exactly 9am. came to our table and said-- you are the last people here- not that we are rushing you but we need to turn the tables for the next guest.--- considering th next guest was not going to be eating at that table u til 6pm- i thought that rude..lol anytime dining is the golden

Which of the scenic view rooms did you have?

We are in 9200 on the October 13 sailing from Norfolk. Really looking forward to it.

we had 9200. what impressed me the most was no motion. -- I thought with being this high and so far forward we would feel the ocean but the sailing was smooth as glass- is this a bahama trip or canada run.

How was the temperature in the cabin? I am curious if that much glass causes the cabin to heat up more than normal. I know there are thermostats, but did you have to adjust it more? I hope we don't have a lot of motion either. Thanks.

by leaving the shades opened when you are not in the cabin it was quite warm when we first got to the cabin. -- the glass was warm to the touch. we shut the shades and it was much cooler when we came back. --the shades are adjsutable. you can close them part way or all the way.

Thanks. I kind of had a feeling this is the case. However, it won't bother me because I love warm, not cold cabins. DH will probably want the AC cranked up more that I will. :) I will probably do like you, and close them before leaving.

they did something to the coffee since we sailed in january. - this stuff was bleech--- you hzve to y various machines to find the right brew--lol. if you go right when its done the coffee is really thick- i swear i could cut it with a knife. room service coffee was drinkable. dini g room coffee first night bleech- but the rest of the week it got better

Thanks for the heads up on the coffee. I was thinking about giving Carnival's coffee another try and not bringing on my Taster's Choice House Blend coffee packets this coming cruise, but I guess I better stick with my routine. At least I can get a decent cup in the morning. All I do is order the hot water from room service. I also take along my own individual flavored creamer packets. I'm pretty good with one cup, but if I need another throughout the day, its nothing to take to Lido to make my own. Glad you reported this. Thanks.

I think I realized on this cruise that cruising just isn't for me. I can't take the crowds. I ate at the buffet once because it was a madhouse.

I too had a balcony room and that is the only thing that "saved" me. What a great escape from the crowds with your own private view! And I walked by some inside rooms with the door open while housekeeping was cleaning - couldn't believe how tiny they were!

We had 3 people in our cabin - myself, my sister and my 8yo daughter. It was tight but we managed just fine. We had 2 hanging closets and one closet with 4 or 5 shelves in it. 1 small drawer and 2 medium sized drawers. Then one other cabinet that opened with 2 shelves. The 3 of us were able to unpack all of our things with enough room (after some initial squabbling lol).

My daughter slept on the sofa bed which they had already made up for her. I layed with her a couple nights while she fell asleep and although it wasn't extremely uncomfortable there is no way 2 adults can sleep comfortably on it. I have to say though my daughter found it extremely comfortable and I actually thought the bed mattresses were harder.

ETA- I guess I made a mistake and scenic ocean view is different from balcony (only my 2nd cruise). So I am assuming we just had a standard balcony room so that is what I describe above.

I am most impressed with only a 2 lb weight gain. That's great!

Me too! I'm up 5 :(

I mainly ate in the MDR. Breakfast was room service every morning - coffee, bagels, Danishes, fruit,

Lunch was usually a guys burger ( they were good, the fries were great)! Or if I caught the buffet t a non-crowded time I would check, out what they had. Pizza sometimes for lunch.

Food in the MDR was okay. The lobster was great. We ate t the steakhouse one night and it was really, really good!

It will be to the Bahamas. We have 4 people Me, wife, daughter, and my mom for her first cruise. Hopefully we will all fit in there. Was thinking of bringing a blow up pool float for our daughter to sleep on. Her idea. Can always lean it up against the wall during the day. Will try the 2 and 2 method probably too. As my daughter will want to sleep with grammy.

you could slip it under the bed-=-= plenty of room there.

Um, I slept on the sofa bed its enough for 2 people unless one hogs--lol

but remember its rock hard.

---

is anyone interested in the funtimes? I really dont want to scan if there is no interest

I also have kids camp. club menus too

GD tried the 6-8 group a few times-- she liked it, she didnt like it, she liked it.

Each day had a theme.. she loved dressing like a pirate that day. another day she made a tee shirt. Another day a magician did his show.

I didnt let her swim after the second day. I just didnt feel safe with her there. The pools have no supervision. and i found that parents thought its a vacation how unsafe could it be. THe pools were super crowded and the kids were doing a lot of horseplaying. One the second day there was a young girl-- maybe age 11 who kept insisting on jumping in and out of the pool. After the second time of jumping on my GDs head honey yelled at her to stop jumping in the pool because there were too many people and she was not paying attention to where she was jumping. (she listened)

the first day Honey jumped in the pool by the water slide because a boy abut age 4 was not swimming and kept going under. the boy looked to be in full panic so Honey jumped in and got him out as his mom came over. She was waiting for him to come off the slide. Evidently this pool is too close to the slide and he just went in.

PLEASE watch your kids. Especially when there are a lot of them around

Thanks Serene, I always appreciate your reports and best room knowledge and why!!...and my next cruise is 7 or more days too unless just a weekend deal added to a land trip. Had a 5 day last on spirit Easter 2012..more kids on shorter cruises plus Easter..and just crew and food not up to snuff at all..about 50/50 warm and edible. My inside cabin was spotless and wonderful female steward..but vaulting kids on both sides..that eventually stopped though...i think 7 days they go out more to make it all work. One positive..when food is 50/50 weight gain minimal as you said, but I would rather it be 100 percent good...Glad you tried it all and got away though..thank you again for review...Sarah
