goldgirl2 Posted September 4, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 4, 2013 I have a small desk size fan that I always take with me when I travel. I hav hot flashes when I sleep and having a small fan next to my bed helps me survive the night. Can I bring it with me on the cruise?
RubyDog08 Posted September 4, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 4, 2013 I have heard that you can. I'm going to in December. :)

sailinglisa Posted September 4, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 4, 2013 If you want to make sure it is NOT confiscated, make sure it is a battery operated fan.
Camlott Posted September 4, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 4, 2013 I always take a desk size fan and a new 8' extension cord (still in package) and have never had either confiscated on any ship or cruise line.
beachchick Posted September 4, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 4, 2013 (edited) I dare anyone to try to take my little fan from me these days! Go ahead and see "menopause granny" come out. To think I was almost looking forward to not, well, you know... I used to carry a little battery operated fan in my day pack for hot climates. I didn't quite realize that "hot climates" could include just me.:D beachchick Edited September 4, 2013 by beachchick

goldgirl2 Posted September 4, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted September 4, 2013 Great! I was really worried this. Thanks for the reminder to bring an extension cord. I had forgotten the only outlets are at the desk area.
cb at sea Posted September 4, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 4, 2013 Yes....my small fan travels EVERYWHERE with me....can't sleep without the air movement during hot flashes!
Candleonwater Posted September 4, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 4, 2013 Add to the "night sweats", the need for "white noise" and moving air... why did bringing a fan on the cruise never dawn on me? Of course it's just ONE more thing I have to remember to pack.
mylove Posted September 4, 2013 #11 Share Posted September 4, 2013 We were on the Mariner this past April, and my sister always brings a fan,but this time it was confiscated and given back to her at the end of the cruise. She was one mad woman ,let me tell you. Goes Cruising Posted September 4, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 4, 2013 We take a fan as well. Our 1st cruise, we actually went on a hike to find a store in Puerto Rico so we could buy one. My hubby was not a happy camper without his fan noise. A small plug in fan has travel with us many times since. I never checked if it is on the naughty list, but it has never been pulled, and we always back it in checked luggage.
98Charlie Posted September 4, 2013 #13 Share Posted September 4, 2013 (edited) No worry about the personal fan. The electrical appliances that are prohibited are those "items that generate heat or produce an open flame" (Taken from the RCI FAQs.) Click Here for a link to the FAQs. Be cool:cool: Charlie Edited to add: Yes, it is a good idea to bring a new (in the pack) extension cord. Old cords could pose a fire hazard. It would be a judgment call by the ship personnel. New and in the package is best. Edited September 4, 2013 by 98Charlie
buffalomandm Posted November 3, 2016 #14 Share Posted November 3, 2016 NCL does not allow any fans, I bought an all metal expensive one and have had it taken on my last two cruises with NCL. Royal Carib doesn't mention personal Fans in its What items are not allowed onboard the cruise ship list? Next cruise is Royal Caribbean!
Doug S Posted November 4, 2016 #15 Share Posted November 4, 2016 You used to be able to request a fan from special needs. We usually got a big clunky box fan on its last legs. On our last cruise special needs responded to our request that they no longer provided fans but we were welcome to bring our own. This was on Liberty. We drove in, so we packed a medium sized fan on with no problem at all.
scottygirl Posted November 4, 2016 #16 Share Posted November 4, 2016 We always bring a small fan for white noise. However do not pack it in your carryon when flying. TSA thought ours was a bomb. No lie, had to unpack my entire bag in front of the TSA agent and all of my lingerie was in that bag. Plenty of folks got to see my unmentionables! :o
griffy116 Posted November 5, 2016 #17 Share Posted November 5, 2016 Saw a man hauling a large box fan off Liberty in Galveston in July when we disembarked. I don't know if he tried taking it on and it got confiscated or the let him on the ship with it. I would think a small desk fan would be much better. MUCH better. Mnamom1105 Posted November 5, 2016 #18 Share Posted November 5, 2016 I bought a small travel-ish fan that we put in a carry on bag. DH can't live without a fan and I am starting to get that way. We love our little fan! Sent from my SM-N910P using Forums mobile app

Fenwick Posted November 5, 2016 #20 Share Posted November 5, 2016 I took a fan and it was taken to the room of shame! Now I take a battery operated fan and have had no problems on my last three cruises. I have to have a fan.:)
Rare L454S Posted November 5, 2016 #21 Share Posted November 5, 2016 Been taking one of these along for a few years now. $13 at Wallyworld, pack in checked luggage without box. Been all over including overseas. Just give it to your room attendant after the trip, they are very thankful. Get a fresh one for the next trip........
