I was excited for them. One night I said to my DH, wouldn't it be fun to book this cruise too and not tell them and just show up at their cabin door?! Guess what...WE DID!!

I know I will get flamed for this, but "you surprised your DD and SIL on their vacation?" I can not tell you how mad I would be if a family member, fellow worker or friend purposely booked the same cruise because they wanted to surprise me on my family vacation. My family vacation is just that a vacation from the ordinary day to day, so my plans for vacation is something my spouse and I planned to get closer to my kids and make family memories.

This is not the same about accidentally cruising with a family member, co-worker or friend that did not know we were on the same cruise. In fact, that happened on my second NCL Pearl cruise. A woman Nd her family happen to book the same cruise as us. When she and I realized we were on the same cruise we both agreed not to interrupt reach others cruise vacation. We did see each other about 3 times during vacation but we just said hi.

Awesome!! Thank you soooooo very much! I have been searching for them. I like to know the daily schedule in advance to plan out everything. I really appreciate this a lot!! I look forward to getting them. Thanks again!!

I'm really sorry that you have to go on vacation for you and your wife to get close to your children.

My daughter and son in law have a close knit family and have dinner nightly together, are very involved in their kids activities, weekends are family time and once a week they have movie night or game night. They don't need a vacation to bond with their children. I do agree about making family memories. And that's what my surprise was all about.

I am very close to my DD, SIL and grandkids. My SIL lost his mother when he was 14 and so considers me his mom. I am also the only grandmother that my grandkids have. We live many miles apart - Ca to Ky and so the visits are somewhat limited. And I hadn't seen my SIL for almost two years because of his deployment. They were thrilled to see us. We didn't spend every waking moment on the cruise with them. One night I offered to watch the kids so the parents could have a date night. My DH and I took the kids to dinner without the parents, played Yahtzee with them and took them to the pool while the parents had a few drinks, dinner alone and played in the casino. My kids were thankful that I came along to share my cruising expertise and be a part of the fun and memories.

From this Army mom to you, thank him for his service. Deployments are never easy for the soldier or the family they left behind. Glad we are not the only family that takes a cruise after a deployment. So happy you all had a great time! My son is currently overseas now, not in combat though. As soon as he returns home, he will be getting married and has refused my offers to pay for his wedding like I did for my daughter. I guess I'll just pay for the honeymoon cruise he doesn't know he's taking yet! LOL Truly happy you all had a great time and that your son in law is home safe and sound.

Don't be sorry because my children and us are extremely close. I knew it would be taken out of context.

But when we plan family vacations, it means just us. Not In laws, friends or anyone else. There are some advantages to having In laws tagging along, like free baby sitting and listing to the same old stories over again. But is that what they wanted when they planned their vacation that day, but the intrusion changed they schedule. If they wanted you to come along, they would have invited you. But they didn't, and instead you invited yourself in to their vacation. They will tell you they were happy you surprised them, but you don't really know what they are thinking in private. Don't be surprised you hear about their next family vacation after it occurred. And then ask yourself, "why did they not tell me they were doing that?"

I think that was a fantastic surprise and I'm sure your children agree, seeing how you live so far apart from each other.:-)

This was a fantastic surprise IMO. Thank you to your SIL for his service! Family vacations are how memories are made, whether it is planned or not, or a surprise. My family and I are very close, and I'd be thrilled to have any of them surprise me on any of our trips! In fact my Dad is coming with us on a cruise next week, to be with me, DH and DS (18mo).
