Minneapolistraveler Posted October 26, 2013 #51 Share Posted October 26, 2013 Jellyfish at HMC..say it isn't so:(. Hopefully, they will be gone soon. I got back from a wedding in Jamaica about a week ago - and we did see a few jellyfish. Apparently it is getting towards the end of jellyfish season in the Caribbean. If you are cruising soon and are concerned, you can try Safe Sea - it's a jellyfish sting protecting lotion.
Rare richstowe Posted October 26, 2013 #52 Share Posted October 26, 2013 We are 7 for 7, all on Carnival, during the summer season. I guess one day the odds will catch up with us, as we have not missed one single port in nearly 40 cruises!! Knocking on wood!!! Do you want to go halfsies on a lottery ticket with me ? :D They make plenty of money at Half Moon Cay for a day. If they really wanted to increase revenue on a particular sailing it would make a lot more sense to skip another port (where everything you buy isnt from the cruise line) But this makes absolutely no sense either becuase of the lost excursion money. I completely ignore the nutty posts where the claim is made that Carnival deliberately misses ports "on purpose".This thread is a great response to that nonsense. Yes the Captain may err on the side of caution when deciding to miss a port. GOOD!
africanviolet Posted November 4, 2013 #53 Share Posted November 4, 2013 Is it usually wind/rain or a combination of the two as to why the ships don't make it? If it's wind, does anyone know how strong the winds have to be for the ships not to tender? I made it to HMC a few years ago on Holland America. It is a beautiful beach. Rare puppycanducruise Posted November 4, 2013 #54 Share Posted November 4, 2013 We were on HMC on a HAL cruise several years ago. The tender ride from the ship was quite bouncy - not a problem, quite fun actually. They stopped running the tender after our trip for about an hour, then resumed when it was calmer. CatlinSTJ Posted November 5, 2013 #55 Share Posted November 5, 2013 We've only had it on our itinerary once and it was cancelled, but considering the sky was black, rain slashing down, and thunder and lightning, we were very grateful to miss the port even if it meant not getting to hang out in our cabana for the day. Fun, Fun 44 Posted November 5, 2013 #56 Share Posted November 5, 2013 Maybe we have just been lucky, but we are 4 for 4 getting there. Months we were there has been January, August and September. The months a lot of folks don't cruise much. Good luck all! Kat
Lerin Posted November 6, 2013 #57 Share Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Well this thread is depressing. :( We recently booked a cruise specifically so we could go to HMC. Didn't realize it was such a highly missed port. We already arranged a cabana. If the ship misses the port, we get that money refunded, yes? UtterCaro Posted November 6, 2013 #58 Share Posted November 6, 2013 We already arranged a cabana. If the ship misses the port, we get that money refunded, yes? You should, yes. I was refunded for my rental when my HAL ship missed HMC, and I presume Carnival works the same way. (It was disappointing enough to miss the island without losing the money.) LHP Posted November 6, 2013 #60 Share Posted November 6, 2013 We have been there 6 times and have always gotten to tender. Although I think I just read where recently they had to skip it....
YankeeFan4Ever Posted November 6, 2013 #61 Share Posted November 6, 2013 We're 4 for 4! We've made it to HMC in September 2010 & 2011 and May 2012 & 2013.
