Brooklyn port

Hi, we are cruising out of the Brooklyn port next month. I think we will plan on taking a cab from LGA (should land at 8:10 AM), unless anyone can offer a better idea. My question is, once we get to the pier and hand over our luggage, is there anything within walking distance?

depends on your definition of walking distance and what you want to do. Brooklyn Bridge Park is about 1.5 miles away. Brooklyn Heights is slightly more(you see the view from brooklyn Heights of lower Manhattan all the time on TV). There is also a Fairway(good place to have a cup of coffee at their outdoor cafe and watch the Harbor and the Statue of Liberty) and an Ikea...about a half mile to Fairway and and about a mile to Ikea. You can take a bus up to Atlantic Avenue. (B61? there is a stop on Van Brunt Street out the walk in entrance to the Pier.) The bus requires exact change(coins only) or a Metropass. $2.50 per ride per person.

If you let me know what your preferences are I can recommend other close by places.

The Brooklyn Museum is a short limo ride away(about 15 minutes) Arecibo(7187836465) should charge less than $15 for a ride there. Its about 3 miles. http://www.brooklynmuseum.org/home.php a world class Egyptian collection

note Atlantic Avenue is where the Brooklyn Bridge Park Starts...

Not really looking for something "to do", a place to have coffee and maybe a snack while we wait to be able to board the ship is all I really need. Sounds like I can have just that! Thanks for the info.

Besides the aforementioned Fairway, there is also a restaurant that I recommend that is closer to the pier also on Van Brunt... Hope and Anchor

http://www.hopeandanchorredhook.com/ but it doesn't open until 11 on weekdays.

Ikea also serves Breakfast as does Fairway. none of these are expensive at all.

Great info that raises a few of questions:

1) How early can we drop bags off at the pier (just leave bags with the porters, not actually check-in for boarding)?

2) I've read that the Brooklyn terminal traffic can get VERY backed-up (some waits over a half hour in line to reach the luggage drop-off area) due to the limited access road and design of the pier area roads. That can be expensive in a taxi so I hope to avoid that. Anybody experienced this and if so, at what time of the day?

3) How easy is it to get a taxi at Ikea for a ride back to the pier?

Thanks for any info...

That is why most of us recommend using a car service(set fee no meter)actually the times I have gone there have been not that much back up. early you should have none.

.

Ikea has a dispatchers desk for a car service or you could call Arecibo 718 7836465 and have them come and get you in a few minutes. There are rarely NY yellow taxi's at Ikea. Arecibo will charge around $8. I have no idea what the Ikea hired car service will charge. I know that the pier hired car service charges about twice what a self called one will.

Thanks for any info...

see above in Red.
