Bringing bottled water on board

Doing a 12 day British isles cruise, we can take water on the ship? Last cruise I was on water was included. Sound like princess is not that way

Tap water is safe to drink

Chilled tap water is available at all bars and at all meals with no charge.

Bottled water of any kind has a charge.

You can bring as much water onto the ship as you would like.

Tastes great true! but ships water contains much more sodium than bottled ...because of the process involved. If you have no sodium concerns then it's all good..:)

I just had some " Spring Water " it contained almost 150 mg of sodium which is about 25% of your recommended daily amount. This was for a 500ml bottle.

Your source for claiming the Princess H20 has more sodium than bottled H20?

Wow, that seems absurd to me. To bring water on a ship especially when I'm overseas...I don't even drink tap water unless I'm at home where it's filtered. Guess I'll have to find some bottled water or figure something out. On Azamara it was free

Do you also avoid ice cubes on a ship since they are not made from bottled water?

It wasn't "free." You paid for it, but you didn't know it. ;)

We just did 3 B2B trips on the Ruby. We brought a 12 pack of Pepsi in our carry on luggage and a case of water that we tagged and checked with the porter. Both the soda and water water was allowed on without a problem.

I would also like to know that.

When we were on the ship's tour we were told that the water was distilled using excess heat from the generators that would otherwise be wasted.

In that case the water would be pure with no salt or other minerals at all.

  • 7 months later...

Some ships use a sodium carbonate injection system to raise the PH after purification. So there is sodium added back but I don't know if it's more than what is in bottled water. I guess the only way to find out is to bring a test kit along.

How Cruise Ships Make Fresh Water

This method is similar to the natural water cycle, where sea water is heated by the sun, rises as steam to form clouds, and then falls back to earth as rain. The second method, osmosis, filters sea water through a fine membrane to separate pure water from salt and other minerals. Cruise ships do not desalinate water near ports or close to land, because coastal waters are the most contaminated.

After desalination, the water is passed through a mineralization plant, which adds minerals. This is necessary because the healthy minerals naturally found in drinking water have been removed by desalination. At this stage, the water is also checked for impurities, sanitized, and the pH is corrected. The water is then sent to massive storage tanks on board the cruise ship. On the Grand Princess, for example, these storage tanks hold up to 500,000 gallons of fresh water.

Next, the water is routed to hot and cold systems. Miles of distribution pipe move the water around the cruise ship.

After the water is delivered through a sink or shower, and used by cruise ship passengers or crew, it must be treated again before it can be discharged. All cruise ships must follow strict environmental laws in the treatment of waste water. Even after treatment, the water is not immediately released, but is held in special storage tanks when the ship is close to land, in port, or other sensitive environments.

It’s a complex process, but necessary in order to ensure the health of cruise ship passengers and the natural environment.

Yes on the beer, and yes on wine in a glass.

Wine in a bottle then you get into the corkage fee.

Thank you! So beer in cans or bottles are both ok? What about wine in plastic bags? Do not remember what's that called but I know we have the wine in the bags with a switch on sold in local liquor store.
