EileenN Posted October 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 10, 2013 We are a family of 3 with 2 handiicapped. We are on Fiesta Deck 6 on the Golden Princess and would like to know how far we are from a Main Dining Room for dinner. Where are the best places and most convenient for lunch? How soon can we make reservations for Crown Grill? Where is the best and most quiet swimming pool? Any other suggestions for us we would appreciate. When we cruised with DBIL who had a stroke in his early 50s we usually ate most meals in the dining room. I believe for breakfast and lunch that will be across the Atrium and down one deck in the Bernini DR. There are some changes of elevation so insist they seat you near the door to avoid that. If you are in a WS you will get breakfast at Sabatini's. That is up one deck and halfway back. By all means have breakfast there. For a lite meal or quick snack there is also the International Cafe down one deck. It is really two display cases of pastries, salads, sandwiches, soup and fresh baked cookies. You eat your food on nearby tables in the Atrium. As far as dinner, it depends if you have Traditional or anytime dining. The main Traditional DR is the Canaletto DR on deck 6 all the way aft but you can't get there on deck 6. You will need to take an elevator to deck 7, go all of the way aft and take an elevator back down to deck 6. There are only two elevators that go to deck six and the wait can be long/the elevators full. If you have Traditional dining and are assigned the Canaletto DR, I would strongly suggest getting changed to the Donatello DR right above the Bernini DR. You can call the DINE line from your cabin or stop by Sabatini's. There will be a table set up for making reservations for Sabatini's and the Crown Grill next door. 1025cruise Posted October 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 10, 2013 Specialty restaurants can only be booked on board. On port days, lunch will not be available in the MDR, you will need to order room service, or go up to the Lido deck.
skynight Posted October 10, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 10, 2013 Here is some expanded information to support previous posters. The Donatello DR is on Deck 6, just up the hall from your suite. This DR will be open for dinner, probably from 5:30pm on. Sometimes the ship places overflow early seating dining in the Donatello DR. If you have traditional fixed early seating you may be placed into the Canaletto DR on Deck 6 aft which will require an elevator trip up to deck 7, a transfer to the aft elevators and then another trip back down to deck 6. Everything is HC accessible. If the ship is using the Donatello DR for Traditional early seating, just request that you be placed there. If not, no problem, just approach the Head Waiter once you board and ask that he reserve a table for your family, at the time you want, for each evening of the cruise. The Dontello DR will probably also be used for Lunch (sea days only), but it could be the Bernini DR on Dec 5 one deck down. The International Café is also there. It’s a nice place to eat and you can request service from the waiters so you don’t have to go to the counters. Like the previous poster stated, if you are in a suite you can eat breakfast at Sabatini’s on Deck 7. Room service is also always available. Suite passengers can order from the full menu. The best pools are on Deck 14 where there is an indoor and outdoor pool. There are lots of tables around these pools. Check out the deck plans to get an idea. Have a nice trip. Donatello DR on Fiesta deck was used for lunch on sea days (sometimes open on port days with early departures or late arrivals). Donatello also had 5:30pm first seating traditional dining but switched to anytime dining at 7:30pm. Bernini DR on Plaza deck was the full time anytime dining DR. Putterdude Posted October 11, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 11, 2013 One word of advice if you have traditional dining, as there are only two elevators going down to the Canaletto Dining Room, this makes it extremely difficult for disabled people to get down to this venue and back up following dinner. Instead you may care to see the maître-d' on the afternoon of embarkation and ask to have your reservation changed to either the Donatello or Bernini Dining Rooms. My DW is in a wheelchair and have found that the maître-d's recognize the problem and are always happy to oblige.
