things to do around the port area?

Hi, I've booked a stingray adventure for first thing in the morning (8:30am) and that will leave us plenty of time to do some exploring/shopping in the afternoon. I'm looking for some suggestions for things that keep us close to port.

and a craft stand. Prices are about 20% higher due to exchange rate with the dollar but you can still find a few bargains. Liquor is a good buy compared to the ship or most other islands. Try Tortuga Rum company stores, there are several close to the pier. Lunch at Guy Harvey is a good stop, also his shop has some great designed clothing.

Lots of shops at the port and across and down the street outside the port. I love the Caymans because there is so much right there.

Excellent, thank you! I may go back on the ship to eat lunch and then circle back out for the shops. Unless of course it's a tender port, that might be trickier.

Yes, Grand Cayman is a tender port. I recommend throwing on a mask and going into the water near Paradise Grill (just a block or so from the tender docks) where they feed the tarpon and you can swim with them or head out to the reef. It's extremely convenient to the tender pier. Grab a bite and a drink and hit a few shops. Easy Peasy.

FYI - It's expensive to eat in the Cayman's so just be prepared. ;)

technically ... that's a no-no

 

biologic contamination issues and all that. Only pre-packed foods should be taken ashore.

Oh darn, I had read on one of the posts that this was a good tip. So it's a good tip, just against the rule. I'll take that under advisement. ;-)

That might be more like it! We don't eat a lot when on shore because we like to try a lot of different foods, so we tend to snack and sample our way through the ports. This way it's not too terribly expensive either.

 

I don't recall the last time we sat down for a big meal on an island.....but we definitley eat all over the place.

I've been dieting for seven months so I'm so used to small portions, I can't see myself eating a big meal on shore either, like you said, small snacks. Maybe a drink or two.

I'd have to agree with the light snacks while in ports. We eat so much while on the ship, food is the last thing we think about while in port.

The Buses are about 2 blocks inland from where the tenders dock. They are mini vans and will take you directly to Hell. Seems like the fare was $1.50 last time we were there.

Our family also went there last summer (July 2013). My 3 teens loved snorkeling and then swimming out to the water trampoline.

Does anyone know if there is a market area near the port, where local vendors sell all types of things, similar to the area leading to the bridge in Curacao ? I like to try to find local auto license plates in the islands.
