Anyone just off the Liberty??

I just got off the Liberty yesterday and wish I was still on board.

We had a great cruise. The weather was perfect (hot, but that's how I like it)

There were no chair hogs and food was really good for the most part. Loved Guys Burgers and the Blue Iguana Mexican. The buffets were not great but I had no need for them with the other choices. Anytime dining was perfect for us and we had no problem getting a table and good service.

We really enjoyed the comedians. Didn't do any of the shows in the Victoria except for one which was a comedy type show and it was very good.

Loved all the ports and as everyone says Half Moon Cay was wonderful, soft white sand and clear blue water. The beach BBQ was an added bonus. It was just a nice relaxing port.

We had an inside cabin on the lido deck and I slept like a rock every night and loved the convenience of being forward and on the lido. I will always go for lido or panorama from now on. Booked Glory for Feb while on board and received $300 in OBC with the sale that was on. I see today the price has gone down the $200 that I got in OBC so I may try and change something so I can get the new price with just the $100 for booking on board.

The ship was very nice and clean and the crew was always scrubbing something.

Feel free to ask any questions :)

We got off the Liberty 2 weeks ago, too and had a great time both on the ship and all the ports. Half Moon Cay is one of the most beautiful beachs I have ever been to. We rented floats and just floated around. Loved Guy's Burgers and the other food was fine, too. Just too many choices because we did not get to the Cantina! Loved room service. Staff is great and ship was beautiful. Enjoyed shopping in San Juan and finally found the Coach outlet store. Stumbled on the home of the Pina Colada and tried one, yummy! Loved the Liberty! ;)

Do you remember the name, location of the Restaurant which is supposed to be the Home of the Piña Colada?

My wife and I just sailed on the Liberty 10/12-10/19 Eastern itinerary cruise. Although this was not our first Carnival cruise (we had sailed Carnival twice before), we have been exclusively sailing RCCL for the past 10 plus years. We booked this cruise because the deal was too hard to pass up (we were able to get an Oceanview Suite for 80% off).

Our overall opinion (based on somewhat RCCL biased experience): the Liberty is a nice ship and this was an excellent cruise. I offer the following list of pluses, along with a few minuses.

What We Liked:

• The ship itself- was clean with minimum evidence of wear/tear.

• The Oceanview Suite was terrific, will be hard to go back to even a standard balcony.

• Anytime Dining (or whatever Carnival calls it) worked out very well. We showed up for dinner at various times between 6:15 and 7:15 and never waited more than 5 minutes. We had one “mediocre” waiter and a couple of excellent ones (which we actually then asked for).

• The comedy shows – much better on Carnival than RCCL. Comedians are actually switched out mid-week so you actually see 4.

• The dining room food temperature- most food was served acceptably hot (one of our pet peeves on RCCL is lukewarm food).

• The Lido deck DJ- thought we’d miss the traditional Caribbean type live band but the DJ delivered a much broader music selection (we didn’t have to hear non-stop Reggae for 7 days).

• Cruise Director Josh did a very decent job.

• Liberty crew, as a whole, were very helpful and polite.

• Guys Burgers, Blue Cantina, Deli, Fish and Chips were all very good options for Lunch. We enjoyed them all.

• Room Steward did an excellent job, never intrusive but room was always clean.

• Self-Service debarkation – couldn’t have been easier. We were off the ship by 6:45 and in our car by 7:00.

• Breakfast in the dining room – such an improvement over the breakfast buffet.

What We Disliked:

• Embarkation snafus – we had priority boarding but were part of a group of 20 people whose sign/sail cards were created incorrectly (and didn’t find out until we got to the top of the escalator – final check in before you board the ship). Our cards had to be “re-created” which took 45 minutes during which time we had to stand in the very congested boarding hallway (trying to stay out of people’s way). Some of this group had paid the $50 FTTF and were livid at the delay. In Carnival’s defense, this might be a Port of Miami personnel issue (I’m not sure).

• The Lido deck music- (yeah, I know I said I liked it) Is just a bit too loud. Conversation was literally impossible. Maybe my age is starting to show….

• The Stage shows – we walked out of two of them. Singing/dancing is not that good.

• The buffet food – limited selection and mediocre taste. Good thing there are numerous other options.

• Pizza – I remember this being much better on my past Carnival cruises.

In summary, we really liked the Liberty and this Carnival experience. We will not wait so long in the future to sail Carnival again.

Great to see all the responses!

I have sailed the Liberty 2x in the past and will be sailing her again in Feb. This will be my first time on her since the 2.0 changes. I love reading all your feedback :)

I was on the Liberty last month and did the Western itinerary (Cozumel, Belize, Roatan, Grand Cayman). It was a great cruise and I loved the Liberty. I haven't gotten around to writing a review, but I'd be happy to answer questions.

One thing I will say is that I booked one of the premium 8A balconies, #6481 and loved it!

Looking at booking one of these type rooms, wondered if you heard any noise from the stairways that are located right beside the rooms. Usually book a regular balcony but this type layout looks interesting especially for the larger balcony. Did you think the room felt crowded at all? Thanks for any input!:)

Nice to see these good reports. Actually haven't seen much, if any, negative reviews of the Liberty.

I'll be boarding this coming Saturday (Eastern) and am very, very excited!

Did anyone do the free trolly in San Juan up to the fort? Was it crowded?

Did Liberty Western end of last month. Loved it!!!!!

Can't think of a single complaint regarding the ship itself. Lots of things I really loved such as breakfast at the Blue iguana Cantina, which I did almost every morning. We were aft on deck 8 and I would just run up the aft stairs and head to the cantina. Never more than 1 ahead of me. I would get a plate of huevos rancheros and head back to wake up DH. It was so much we split it and enjoyed on our balcony with coffee and croissants we had delivered from room service. Great way to start the day and these would hold me to 3pm or so.

LOVED the comedy Club. Really liked Guys. Mongolian Grill and fish and chips the first day were good.

Loved the band at the casino area of promenade. They were called Music Power. If you get a chance be sure to check them out. The Alchemy bar was fabulous.

The only thing I didn't like was a delay in Debarkation and long line due to the Customs person taking forever. But that was a customs thing, not carnival.

Also loved the port stops!!!!

Definitely try the Blue iguana cantina for breakfast. In addition to the huevos rancheros, they also have the breakfast burritos.

The Mongolian grill got more crowded as the cruise went on, so try early.

If tendering and don't have carnival excursion, then line up early for tender tickets. We did 30 min earlier and got first tender. The FunTimes tells you where to go. For us it said the Victoria aft lounges (where Punchliner is held), but they actually set up a table outside closer to the elevators.

For the Punchliner, get there 30 min early. Seats fill up fast.

We were on the Liberty the 9/21 sailing and had anytime dining. On our 3rd night we were seated in Rey's section, (pronounced Ray) and he was fabulous. He made sure her knew our names from the time we were seated, and was pleasant and informative. We asked for him each day after that and really enjoyed the dining experience. On our sailing his section was in the middle of the dining room, a great location, and we never had to wait for a table. We went to dinner around 8 most of the time. mike

We just came off the Liberty on Saturday the 20th as well and agree with other posters. It was an awesome cruise. No chair hogs, weather was perfect, ports were amazing. We had a balcony room on the Lido deck with us and our two children ages 10 and 12. Got a little cramped in there by the end! Our room Steward Greg was awesome. I have no idea how he knows when we are there and gone. We were gone once for like 15 minutes and the room was all done! Our waiter in anytime dining we requested was Eric. We really enjoyed him. We loved the music on the Lido deck. They played country, rock, dance music and Caribbean as well. They also played quite a few ‘line dance’ type music everyone knew and could dance to. They had some interesting contests as well J We got the Cheers program and it worked for us. Probably not a savings, but I am sure we broke even. I think we averaged 10 drinks per day per person. Guys burgers were amazing and we thought the pizza was as well (and I grew up in Chicago!). I had the Blue Cantina breakfast a few times and loved it. We ate in the dining room once for breakfast and although the food was good it took forever! So – that was the only time we did that. We ate dinner in the dining room every night and we thought the food was very good. We are not food snobs, but we do enjoy eating nice meals so we were pleasantly surprised. The only exception was the first night the steak was pretty tough and dinner took 2 ½ hours! After that though it was much faster. Then the last night my daughter’s chicken breast was un-cuttable it was so rubbery. But – everything else was delish! And the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake is just as divine as all have described!

I’m debating doing a full review. They seem like so much work!

Let me know if you have any questions.
