knittinggirl Posted November 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2013 Anybody know where I can get an international cell phone I can load with a balance to use out of the country? I looked into the Mobal, but if someone steals it they can ring up a pretty large charge in too short a time.

These are bought in the country you are visiting . They have limited amount of time given on purchase. When the time runs out you usually have to buy another SIM card. The phone has to be compatible with the cell system where you are traveling.
knittinggirl Posted November 12, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted November 12, 2013 We have the cheapest no frills cell phones, so I'd be surprised if the sim cards will work, but that's something to ask the AT&T salesman.
grand isle joe Posted November 12, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2013 Checkout Eurobuzz. They are like Tracfone. They have a web site.:)
jcl410 Posted November 13, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 13, 2013 Before I bought my quad-mode phone, I rented one from http://www.cellularabroad.com/ They also sell Sim cards to use if your phone can support them. Aloha, John
slidergirl Posted November 13, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 13, 2013 Go on Ebay and look for a cheap, unlocked quad-band phone. It has to be a quad-band to be able to communicate on different bandwidths around the world. Then, you just buy SIM cards to meet your needs… That's why I've kept my trusty Motorola RAZR phone (I've had it since 2006)!!! It's not a smartphone - you don't need one to just have a phone handy. agabbymama Posted November 13, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 13, 2013 I obught one of these cheapies for our 21 day trip to Europe. Good thing I had it too, we had a couple of changes in itinerary that made calling necessary. Just don't put too many minutes on it. http://www.telestial.com/ And I still have the phone for future use.
