Ncl Dawn and Boston

Guess no one has heard anything

It's hard to say isn't it? It looks like her last cruise from Boston is Nov. 7th 2014 but they haven't completed the new schedule for next year yet so maybe wait a few more weeks before we know for sure. It should be posted beginning of December, I think.

We wouldn't mind sailing out of Boston either although for us, it's an 8 hr. drive but that's short compared to some, LOL.

We always sail out of Boston for Bermuda. Since we live here, I can't see driving or training to New York, just to take the Breakaway. We might try the Breakaway for one of her other autumn or winter itineraries.

I thought that I read that the Dawn will be wintering in New Orleans in 2015. Not sure about her leaving Boston. I hope not.

Yes this is correct but we don't have any sailing dates after NO yet. I'm sure they'll be out soon... next couple of weeks hopefully. Keeping my fingers crossed too. Have no desire to leave from NYC or leave on the Breakaway but that could change. Life happens.

I'm anxious to find this out too. I don't think they will give up Boston, but I do think it's time for a different ship. I have two more trips scheduled next summer on the Dawn, which will make 6 total on that ship (and 2 on the Spirit before her). Althought I love the Dawn, I am ready for a different ship!

The dawn is moving to New Orleans after the 14 day Carribean escape cruise from boston. Right now the itinerary is a 7 day western Caribbean from New Orleans and is available through April 2015. Nothing is available yet from Boston for 2015. We will probably find out early 2014 when they publish the rest of 2015 if some other ship is coming back or maybe the Dawn is coming back after its New Orleans run for the summer.....

Marie, I asked the hotel director in Oct. He said he'd find out and let me know but he never did.

He did say that he highly doubted NCL would drop Boston as an embarkation port. He said the Boston to Bermuda cruise was a gold mine.

I doubt that they'll drop Boston, as well. Each week seems to sail full during the Bermuda season, and many are happy to rebook this cruise. I have sailed a few times on the Majesty, Spirit, and Dawn.

If the Dawn is reassigned, I'm sure that another ship will replace her. I wish that Boston could have a year-round ship. If not Bermuda in the winter, somewhere else with a warm climate.

The Getaway going to Miami might free up another ship for our area. I'd like to see two ships in Boston. One can do the Bermuda run, while the other goes elsewhere.

I think that we have the customer base to support it.

Pretty much only ship that could be freed from Miami after inauguration of Getaway would be Pearl - which nowadays spends a lot of time doing charters between normal cruises and the distance from Boston to Bahamas would be bad for charters (from Miami they can easily do shorter 4 or 5 night charters with plenty of good weather needed for stage on the pool deck etc). I doubt that they'd move Sun anywhere as a smaller ship is perfect for the longer Southern itineraries because of the clientele, Sky is also doing good with the short cruises from Miami. Star is doing the wanted PC itineraries and will return to Northern Europe for the summer.

NCL has lately expanded to other ports closer to Caribbean so I'd doubt that they would base two ships that up north, NYC already got a second ship based there year-round.

But still, I'm just guessing. :D

LIKE! :D

Now that Carnival dropped Boston [and Baltimore] it would be nice to have another ship up north. If no additional ship, at least use Boston as a year-round port. NYC has 2 year-round ships and their climate is the same and travel distance by ship would be similar also. I am not hoping for the Bahamas though but I guess we can take what we get in the winter months. I have not been on the Dawn yet so if she stays I am OK with it.

I remember hearing a rumor a year or so back that there was a possibility that the Gem would be deployed to Boston in 2014. Of course, that never did happen.

I'm not sure how many years the Spirit was assigned to Boston before the Dawn. I do know that the Dawn allowed for about 200 more pax. If the Gem were to move to Boston, that would allow roughly another 180 additional pax over the Dawn. I imagine the Gem would just as easily sell out for Boston to Bermuda runs as the Dawn.

I'm not holding my breath that a different NCL ship will be coming to Boston in 2015, but I would be pleasantly surprised if it did happen.

Sounds like the Escape could be heading to Boston for 2015?

According to the Bermuda Sun (9/18/13)

"Kevin Sheehan told the Bermuda Sun he was pleased with how the Norwegian Breakaway's inaugural season traveling between New York and the island had gone. And Mr. Sheehan said that recent legislation that allows ships to open their casinos while in Bermuda means there is every possibility that Norwegian's newest ships would continue to come to the island. The Norwegian Escape comes into service in 2015 and its schedule will be announced later in the fall, while the Norwegian Bliss is due to be in service by 2017."

"Mr. Sheehan said 'It's definitely possible that Bermuda will see our next newest ships."

Sheehan - "But I can say Bermuda is a serious market for us. Bermuda and Norwegian go hand in hand and we would like to see that continue for many, many years to come."

OMG. We love the Dawn. I really hope we get to keep her. Just off in October this year and booked for next October too..... I can't believe they'd drop Boston as a port. We've sailed each year from the Majesty through the rest. Can't face the New England winter without a Bermuda fix.

To bring the Escape to Boston the city would need to make major investments in the Black Falcon terminal. The pier is so high it takes forever to load provisions and baggage for the Dawn. They can't roll things on with multiple forklifts but need a special forklift to lower the containers to the doors. In addition like the Breakaway in NYC a whole new gangway would need to be built. No much they can do about the limited waiting area space.
